I only meant that the new software makes the CUDA-enabled cards partially act like a PPU, even though it didn't originally work for that purpose. The cards were out well before you could enable PhysX on them. It's still hardware-accelerated, yes.

As for everything else, you are correct. CoH does not support PhysX outside of Ageia's physical card. It doesn't recognize nVidia's version. I figured something like that, but what the hay do I know, my tech kanowledge is low. However, I really appreciate the informfative replies by you two, helpful and enlightening.

Thanks again

Have you looked at the updated driver 196.21 on Windows 7 as of yet?

I am running a GTX 260 video card and I can run everything at max and things look great but I noticed recently that the lightning in the swords of my Grave Nights on my Necro MM is no longer there. I have no idea why it disappeared.

Another person said that on their Grave Knights it is still there so I figure it has to be some setting that I am just missing.

Do I need to download and install the Physx's driver separately? I remember having to do that way back but I thought it was integrated now in Nvidia drivers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Not sure what else I might not be seeing.

Garrott, I have a MM and the lightning still shows in the swords, and I have my Max Particle count set at about 25000...max is 50000. You might try seeing if that's it. Also make sure your Geometry Buffers are enabled. (I have Bloom and DoF off.)
The PhysX driver is included with the Nvidia drivers. (I used to d/l them separetly too, even though I didn't have the actual PhysX card.) I have a feeling that very soon the 197.13 beta driver will become WHQL and be avalable as the next update. Hope that helped!

No luck. By the sound of it I have my settings the same way as others that do see the lightning.

I will have to check on my other machine that also has a GTX 260 in it and see if it shows up on that computer.

It is just odd.

Thanks for the information.

After much experimentation, I've discovered that enabling FSAA is causing input lag across my entire computer- even out of game and as I'm typing this. There's a small, but noticable latency period. This is a relatively new problem. While I won't blame any patches, it did start happening about 3 patches ago. Sporadically at first, now consistently. Any ideas as to why or if anyone else is experiencing it?

With the advent of Issue 17 and Ultra Mode, this thread needs a new chapter for those of us with Nvidia cards. jg0001's original settings were perfect for me, even though I have an older puter. UM is a whole new set of variables and it will be good to see what works best for others. By 'best', I mean the most eye-candy with the least amount of lag. For me, the original settings work, plus water set to high and reflections to medium. Looks awesome, even without shadows.....turning on shadows drops my frame rates. I hope this will help someone with a low-end card/older system to see a nice visual upgrade to this game we all like so much. I'd love to see posted settings from high-end systems to low. Don't know if jg0001 is still around, but it would be great to see what he'd have his quality settings on in UM, as compared to his original.

I completely agree. I love the shadows, but my 9600GT drops me down to the 10-20 range, so I'm going to leave that off until my upgrade. I was going to do a full system rebuild, but I think I might just go with the video card for now and hope my old Core2Quad can keep up. I'll be looking for a full quality shadow shots for my next calendars though. haha

It doesn't appear that jg0001 has posted since last year.

Be well, people of CoH.

Same thing for me, JG's settings were perfect for me as well.

Gonna help out as much as I can here, just getting back into the game today after about 12 months out.

My current system is:

Intel i7-920 w/12GB RAM
MSI Twin Frozr GeForce GTX 260 w/896MB RAM (196.21 Forceware)
Win 7 Pro x64

So you know where I'm coming from. Starting off, I'm continuing to use jg0001's settings in the NVidia CP without changes. For the in-game settings, I'll go through them one at a time with the settings that work best for me. (There are places where settings are repeated, I've simply skipped over those.)

GRAPHICS
Resolution: 1680x1050 (obviously, set this to whatever res you're running at.)
FSAA: 2x (any setting above this immediately drops my FPS from 60 down to 30, and even 2x has my FPS fluctuating between 55 and 60fps.)
Advanced Graphics Settings: Enabled
Graphics Quality: Customized

ULTRA MODE OPTIONS
Shadow Mode: Stencil Shadows (Shadow Maps of any quality immediately drop my FPS from 60 down to 30.)
Shadow Map Shader: N/A
Environment Reflections: Ultra Quality
Water Effects: Ultra Quality
Advanced Occlusion Settings: Enabled
Ambient Occlusion: Customized

ADVANCED AMBIENT OCCLUSION SETTINGS
Occlusion Strength: Strong (The highest setting, "Strong with color bleeding", immediately drops my FPS from 60 down to 30.)
Ambient Resolution: Quality
Blur: Bilateral Depth (this is a weird one. On my rig, Fast has about a 2 FPS hit, Gaussian and Gaussian Depth have a 1 FPS hit, Bilateral and Bilateral Depth have about a 2 FPS hit, and Trilateral drops my FPS down to 30.)

ADVANCED GRAPHICS SETTINGS
Suppress FX When Close: Disabled
AGEIA(TM) PhysX(TM) support: N/A (this is a personal thing, I need PhysX support disabled to play Sacred 2 with the Ice & Blood Expansion without crashing.)
Particle Physics Quality: High (same reason as AGEIA support above)
World Texture Quality: Very High
Character Texture Quality: Very High
World Detail: 100%
Character Detail: 100%
Max Particle Count: 50000
Vertical Sync: Enabled
Mouse Cursors: Color

Use Geometry Buffers: Enabled
Anisotropic Filtering: 16x (yeah, I can jack AF up to max, but not FSAA.)
Texture Crispness: Smooth
Shader Quality: High

Depth of Field Effects: Enabled
Bloom Effects: Regular
Bloom Amount: 100%
Desaturation Effects: Enabled

So the big three performance hits seem to be FSAA above 2x (and I wonder if that's a bug of some sort, as I didn't previously have this issue), Shadows set to Shadow Maps, and top-end Advanced Ambient Occlusion.

Got a lot of playing to catch up on, so I'll be seeing how my current settings fare in a lot of situations.

SMASH!!! is control.

Turn off Vertical Sync for the 60 to 30 FPS drops. You'll start to get FPS in between. I had this problem as well, and I forgot that I had vertical sync on in the game settings, and did not force it through Nvidia Control Panel. Turned it off, and it's fine. Odd that it's pretty strict in going around the range of 30 and 60, where in other games with v-sync on, it's not so dead-set on 30 and 60.

In any case, with v-sync off, it's a better indicator of performance because it doesn't hover so much on the 30 and 60 fps mark with a 60hz monitor.

Late post, but in case anyone else was having the same or similar "problem".

I know this is a pretty old post but didn't it used to be Stickied?

Since I'm here, has anyone figured out some good settings for Nvidia? The above worked for me well until GR hit. I've been hit with the flickering while walking in Praetoria. I know some people with this problem may not know what the settings do and these latest posts do a good job of giving a starting off point.

Anyone that has the game running smoothly want to post up what their settings are? Preferably with as much eye candy as possible....

I've been working on finding decent settings. My issue is getting the NV control panel to remember game specific settings rather than having to set everything via global settings. For the life of me I can't get triple buffering to work reliably, so I'm stuck woth the 60fps -> 30fps issue and I want to make sure my settings work WITH vsync on.
