(And I’m still waiting to hear how, exactly, the newly hired developers could be reasonably expected to complete tens of thousands of programming hours of work between December 07 and the announcement of the planned content of i12.)

[/ QUOTE ]Oh, geez... Are you *still* on this???

[/ QUOTE ]

Umm… yeah… I’m still on it. It was the entire point I was making. Duh

[ QUOTE ]
THE DEVS ARE NOT ALL NEW!

[/ QUOTE ]

Maybe you should read the announcements. It was clearly stated that since new people were being hired, some attention could be paid to reworking bases. The devs who are old hands have other things on their plates. Why is that difficult for you to understand?

[ QUOTE ]
For crying out loud, they have already said that they are fixing one of the oldest base bugs with Issue 12!

[/ QUOTE ]

Fixing a bug =/= major overhaul requiring many thousands of programming hours.

I’m still waiting to hear how you expect that to be done in a few short weeks after the new people are hired.

Well now. I think that speaks for itself.

And Pax, truth be told, just because someone is on a forum with someone and is a friend of theirs, it doesn't make them a "meat puppet" when they decide to come here to defend that friend. It makes them a good friend.

[/ QUOTE ]
The definition of "meat puppet" as an internet colloquialism (at least, in my experience) is "Bob is in an argument online; Bob goes to his friends Mary, Joe, Bill, Susan, and Mike to ask for help ... even though none of them are part of the cummunity where said argument is happening; those five friends join said community and leap into said argument."

You call it "being a good friend", I call it "being a meat puppet": their presence has been requested solely to bolster the perceived popularity of Bob's position in an argument, and that is what a Meat Puppet is.

...

Aha, found a reference for you: Wikipedia's article on internet sock puppetry.

Not part of the "community?" How am I not, I play the freaking game!

[/ QUOTE ]
The Forum community and the General Playerbase are not precisely the same; those of us who frequent the forums on a regular or semiregular basis are a subset of the playerbase itself.

And you yourself suggested that you were drawn into the Forum community to support someone else's argument. That's being a meat puppet. I didn't make that part of your story up, you did.

However, Zub ... the truth is, you were guilty of a faux pas first. I mean, really now ... registration date attacks? You should know better than that!

[/ QUOTE ]

It wasn't a registration date attack, actually. What I noticed first was the tiny post counts [...]

[/ QUOTE ]
Shame on you, again.

Post count = not relevant.

Registration date = not relevant.

[ QUOTE ]
In fact, this is the very first time I’ve ever questioned the reality of another poster on these forums. I think that in this case I had good reason.

[/ QUOTE ]
No, really you didn't. One should never lightly level an accusation of sock/meat puppetry; it's a pretty serious attack on the targets' character.

I maintain that you should be ashamed for your part in this.

[ QUOTE ]
The one registered two days ago is particularly suspicious.

[/ QUOTE ]
Again with the registration dates.

Well, this still has to go into closed beta, then open beta before release...... so, maybe a month or so?

I do love the itarwebz, I really do. Meat puppet has been so corrupted. It's a cyberpunk term that applies to the 'not jacked in' crowd, especially fighting types (in the Cybrpunk 2020 system the solo class primarily): mercanaries, soldiers, bounty hunters, etc. A meat puppet is also the 'person' behind the cyberpresense, hence meat puppet since most netrunners considered their body secondary to their cyberspace avatar, it was a 'puppet' made of meat. So honestly we're all meat puppets, t least the typists behind the posts.

[/ QUOTE ]

I didn't do it lightly. I gave it careful thought, and only proceeded because it was very blatent. And I was correct, by the meat puppet's own admission, yes? Had I been mistaken, I would have offered an apology for it.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm sorry you feel that way. But I really don't think you're going to convince me that I was wrong for calling them out. Do you think we can agree to disagree on this point, Pax?

Well, I've already got a contact in Cimerora.......

[/ QUOTE ]

Now THERE'S an interesting question - normally once you get to know a contact (do a few mishes, drag your tail all over Paragon City running errands for them, wash their cars...), they give you their cell phone numbers and you can call them instead of having to run all the way back there.

I might be out on a limb here, but I'm thinking ancient Rome didn't have cell phones, so how do you establish that "insta-contact" thing? Telepathic link? Messages chiseled into the side of the Colosseum? Use the Ouroboros crystal ("I'm sorry, the contact you are trying to reach is not available at this time, please sever your spatiotemporal contact and try again")?

What I noticed first was the tiny post counts of several individuals who suddenly appeared out of nowhere to chime in on JZ’s side… Coupled, of course, with JZ jumping in immediately and saying “HA! You see! Other people agree with me! So there!” It didn’t pass the smell test. In fact, this is the very first time I’ve ever questioned the reality of another poster on these forums. I think that in this case I had good reason.

The one person I knew to be real, PlasmaStream, received a thoughtful response.

And as a matter of fact, I’ve not seen any evidence that any of these posters is not an alt account. The one registered two days ago is particularly suspicious. But I’m willing to concede that they are (mostly, anyway) real people, since like you pointed out a meat puppet is not any better than a sock puppet.

[/ QUOTE ] Why not do a search on my name in the forums? You'll notice that I've been posting on this kind of thing here and there for a long time now. And most of those posts are about the same thing: base love. I laid into you and Radiant Beam simply because this is the first time I've seen *anyone* else asking for what I've asked for, and the two of you treated him like crap. And there was NO excuse for it. You said a few pages ago what you *meant* by the Veruca Salt comment. If you can keep your posts on topic like that from now on, you may very well avoid being jumped by a bunch of folks.

And regardless of your attempts to change the argument from "We'd like to see something for the bases" to "We demand EVERYTHING for the bases" (which none of us have, in fact, asked for), what we have asked for is now coming to fruition. So, you may say what you like on this thread. I'm done. But if the SG logo bug isn't fixed in I13, you'll most likely see me there, too.

Peace.

[/ QUOTE ] Okay, and if he did ask them to come here and help, then you might be right. But then again, he might have simply said, "Man, what a jerk! Dude on the forums called me a spoiled brat for asking for some base love in I12!" and his friends (without being asked to) said, "What?!" and went on their own to see what had been said. To me, they are acting on their own, under their own willpower, and are not "puppets" in any way, shape, combination, or form. (If I'm right, that is...)

Hmm, might have to try that! Talk about the ultimate deja vu experience...

And geez, you figure if anyone would be traipsing through time and not bother to answer the phone, it'd be Lazarus.

...and I'm still waiting to hear how the newly hired Devs can be reasonably expected to complete many thousands of programming hours worth of work on bases in time to be included in the upcoming i12 content.

That was what JZ demanded by shouting, "WHAT ABOUT BASES?" in a thread all about upcoming i12 content. And in all the attempts at deflection used, all the tangents and changing of the subject and false accusations of name-calling and running off to find friends for an appeal to the people fallacy, nobody has answered this core issue, which was the whole point of my initial foray into this thread. Until that happens, I’m still gonna say, “Be careful around those squirrels (or golden geese, if you prefer old-school Wonka).”

From what pohsyb had said, the only real fix for bases in i12 was on the robo surgery. The revamp was to come later.

pohsyb's post:

[REDACTED], which means any immediate fixes are low priority. I did fix the robo-surgery for I12 though.

They've hinted at it: a couple weeks out to closed beta, a couple more weeks to open beta, a couple more to live. Assuming nothing goes horribly wrong at any of those steps. Also by giving general information now they have time to make some internal tweaks based on feedback before it even makes it to closed beta.

Several reasons:

(A) - it builds anticipation for the Issue ... a little thing called "hype";

(B) - the Issue is still a "work in progress"; they will only tell us about things that are already working, or otherwise guaranteed to be part of the Issue. This way, if there's stuff they WANT to do, but it proves impossible? We don't end up standing around saying "but you promised _____";

(C) - it's better than hearing NOTHING about it, until it's all ready to go Live.

Im coming back from a year hiatus for this. This issue sounds amazing, the VEAT, the powerset proliferation, all sounds good to me =]

Posted

I'm sorry but this my own speculation. Since they have yet to post a release date. I am sensing since E3 is right around the corner. They are simply going to wait until right before or during E3 to drop this issue into the game. Why? Better promotional tactics and that's how NCSoft does it? I don't know but it seems most logical, only because such scarce information has been mentioned about this issue. If the closed/open beta was announced at some point, I'd think otherwise, but I am only left thinking that this is going to be pushed till later.

Unfortunately for me - Patience is not my virtue.
