What My Six Year Old Has Learned From CoX
I want to thank you for sharing this. Reading this made me feel better when I was suffering from a bit of depression that day. I'm heartened to see that your daughters seem to have a healthy balance between physical activities (going outside) and gaming. I love the "Clicky Clacks". I liked reading other people's stories about their little ones. I lurk and don't post much but I've been perusing forums for over a decade now and this thread will be going on my Top 5 All-time Favorite List.
Thanks again,
- Klink
Well, little one rolled a new toon on thursday. He wanted a plant controller, but couldn't choose a secondary. I jokingly said "Daddy's stone tanker would love a kin" so bam, Plantbot, a plant/kin was born... just in time for double XP weekend.
He's had such a blast teaming with the whole family, and my tanker is much happier now. I feel bad using him like that.... but he's enjoying it.

As a /Kinetics Controller he just got Daddy to play the roll of another pet and this one he gets before level 32.
yes, and now is a level 24 /kin... and can only handle duos for teams as he gets overwhelmed keeping up with the buffs otherwise. Working with the wife and him to get him more team-friendly. But if anyone on Champion sees Plantbot out and about, give him a wave.

I found it took Flame about a year before she got the hang of buffing, but it really isn't her playstyle. She'll take Aid Other once in a while or use a heal with her Mastermind if I remind her, but she's very much a "smash and blast" type of player. What I have found is playing with her has helped me master the art of buffing. I usually take a support role to her offence role and I like to think I am pretty handy at the best of times.
One thing I really like about her is that she has the idea of giving away extra Inspirations at the right time. She'll drop greens on me if I am "turning red" or pass me a few blues if she notices that I am running out of gas. She's saved my bacon a few times with her inspiration gifts. She thinks that light blues are the most valuable inspriations in the game and hoards two or three of them if she can. Again, this has paid off for me and our teammates.
I have to mention one cute thing she does with her Insipirations. Like any good player, when I call out "Boss" near the end of a mission, she begins to furiously click everything in her Inspriation tray and then say "Ready!". She forgets what most of the other inspriations do, but she knows that she needs to "juice up" before big battles.
Maybe one day, I'll get my main account back from her. I got a 50 on the secondary account so she and her sisters could start with flying aliens, but that was short lived. As soon as she saw the Veteran Reward buffing fairy pet I had, I've been regulated to the second account ever since.

heh, maybe I shouldn't be so nervous when my 3 year old hops on my toon and spins around in a circle.
Now if I can get her to stop calling grego "poo poo daddy" (stone/stone brute)
Ha ha, what a great thread, I just found it. Count us in as another family who plays together. My son was 9 and daughter 10 when we started over 2 years ago. My then boyfriend gave us the account because he had an extra one. At first I hadn't even planned on playing but quickly got caught up in it. Eventually he and I got married, added on 2 more accounts, and now all 4 of us can team together.
When my son was still 9, I discouraged him from joining teams with "strangers." I wanted to feel comfortable that he could handle himself properly in social situations. I teamed with him a lot, taught him how to talk to people, how to be a good teammate, and all the other little intricacies of the game.
Now he is 11 and I trust that he can handle any social situation of the game. Sometimes teamed with him on a PuG, I see him make comments and think to myself, "was that my 11 year old son who just made that witty comment?" LOL. He has worked hard on his favorite scrapper and hit 49 this double XP weekend. He's playing right now and will achieve his first 50 today.
Now my ultra mature, now 12 1/2 yr old daughter on the other hand I have never worried about in social situations. She is a writer by nature and has always enjoyed the character creation much more than the actual playing. She will spend hours writing her characters' background stories, play to level 4, then log off to read a book. LOL. They each have their own styles and that is great.
So CoH/V has been a source of education for both of my kids too. And family bonding time! When I refer to our hobby to friends or family, I say that we spend a lot of time playing games together. I don't have to specify that we are each in our own rooms playing through our respective computers!
This thread is STILL full of win. I'm always checking back for updates. My 6yr old loves the fact that little kids play this game too.
You know, this is the reason I bookmarked this. I actually force my spouse to read this. SHe is not a fan of the game (she doesnt get it to use her words) but she absolutely loved the Sister Flame's story. She smiled at me, then told me I need to grow up.
Oh well you can lead em to water . . .

Did you tell her that when she turns 25 she can use Ouro to do Frostfire as many times as she wants?

Ooh, I hope that you parents post any playable content from your adorably creative children. I know I'd play them.
I'm pretty sure a lot of the children-driven content will involve the parent sitting at the keyboard while the kid directs the construction
I think it's going to be hilarious.
I wonder how many frostfire-map missions we're going to have soon.
Clock... I mean, Clickey Clacks fighting with zombies, on ice slopes! And monkeys! With bright neon green decor! Then of course getting teams of people to play through their newly created missions, I bet it can be quite exciting to get a few random people to play through their mission and say something about having a great time
This is going to be awesome.

War Witch: We need your help (heroname). Sister Flame is in trouble. She has been captured by the clicky clacks and their commander Jar Brain Head. You have to free her from a prison cell and then team up with her to defeat the remaining clicky clacks before they can steal all the power from Paragon.
Don't count your weasels before they pop dink!
It's funny what kids can learn from video games, especially nowdays. In good and bad, depending on the kid of course.
When I was growing up we only had Commodore 64, but I learnt many things from those games, typing for one.
Bubble Bobble, Bubble Bobble 2: The rainbow island, Indiana Jones, Spy Hunter.
It was all challenging, yet good.
Edit: for people who do not know what sequel to Bubble Bobble was like. This is later Amiga port if I'm not wrong.
I love this thread. I don't know if I've already posted in this...I think I have, but I can't find my post. Meh.
If you ever bring your kids over to Virtue, I'd love to team with them. They're awesome.

My daughter just became eight and celebrated by making lvl 35 and getting into Cimerora (she wants the roman costume a lot, I have told her too many stories about the romans) :-)
She choose an ice/ice tank for her main toon and, as we are Swedish, English is not her main language. Thus her first english words she learnt were "ty" and "lol", she will probably have problems in English class later :-)
I tried to make her use her lvl 11 blaster instead, but she wants to tank. This often leads to people disliking her when she plays in teams (we often play together, but early morning she is up teaming while I am sleeping on weekends), as she does not understand any instructions she receives from the leader or the team. However, I have drilled her in taunting, herding and tanking, so she is doing an OK job. It has been a while since someone kicked her.
My main comment to her while she is playing is: "They are waiting for you to lead! CHARGE!!!"
:-)
She is on Freedom too, as Death Skull Ninja (or any other toon with Death Skull in the name :-) )
