  1. Your guide has been instrumental in helping me break free of my alt-itis. I created a Rad/Rad last night, and I fell in love with him. He's only level two, but I have a feeling we are going to be together for a long time.
  2. As someone who is about to become a father, this thread makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. Thanks.
  3. Wow! This is some great advice. I'm thinking of creating a TA/A Defender, and I think this will help. I'm a little nervous about the idea because I am restricted to solo play (long story that I won't repeat because I am sure several people have read it in several other posts), but it seems there is some solid advice in here for soloing this set, so that leaves me hopeful.
  4. Wow! Did I ever post this in the wrong area. Please disregard.
  5. I'm more of a concept builder than someone who simply takes the "bestest" powers. That being said, I am bit concerned when it comes to Travel Powers, since most of the choices do not fit with most of the concepts I have in mind.
How viable is it to use Swift and Hurdle as your only travel powers? I've heard of people doing it, but is this actually doable, or am I just going to end up getting mugged by every high-level mob of minions I pass in the streets. Super Leaping, Flight, Super Speed and Teleportation are not exactly desirable for more than half my concepts, but I'm also sick of getting blasted in the streets of King's Row upon arrival at level 5 by some random mob of villains and waking up in the hospital. It'd be great if I was at least fast enough to escape from them.
  6. I was one of those turkeys who bought into the specs on the side of the box, not realizing they were minimums. I have never played many PC games, let alone MMORPGs, but was excited at the prospect of City of Heroes. And when I saw that my computer met the requirements, I was thrilled.
One month later, I am enjoying myself, but a touch frustrated. I can solo just fine, but I was looking forward to joining some teams (as this game is really built for teams). The problem is that with the defaut settings, my average fps is 15. Even in safe mode, I only average 25. It's lag city!
Rikti invasions are giving me spasms. I walked out of the Freedom Corps HQ in Galaxy City the other night, just hoping to go level up, when suddenly I was lucky to move 10 feet without freezing. What should have been a short jaunt over to the Back Alley Brawler turned into a visit to the hospital when my low level character was jumped by two higher-level Rikti. Thankfully, the attack was over before I got back.
I love this game so much, and would love "the full experience," but upgrades are unfortunately not in my immediate future. My wife and I are expecting a new addition to the family, and the money is better spent on caring for the baby. A whole new computer is in the works, but unless I win the lottery, it'll likely be a year from now before my budget will allow for the purchase.
It's going to be a long year of solo City of Heroes action. I dream of the day I'll be able to contribute to a team.
I wish the requirements on the box had been the recommended system requirements, and not the minimum requirements, so I could have made a better educated decision.
  7. I'd add another simple addition... and it follows the old KISS rule... Keep It Simple Stupid.
It is one thing to have an elaborate costume... it is another thing altogether to have an elaborate costume for no apparent reason. I can't count the number of costumes I've seen where I swear the main thought crossing the mind of the creator was "more detail means better looking."
The costume on my current toon Reactor is very simple... using the three colour system mentioned above (Red, Black and a yellow logo). It is almost Golden Age-ish in its simplicity. Last night, I had two unsolicited compliments on my costume... I was stunned!
