The Ps3 is a far superior machine than the 360. Their Network is greatly improving, and oh yeah....It's free.

First off: that's not a PS3 exclusive, the 360 can do HD just fine, too. Secondly: my TV is 480i, is less than 18 months old, and I have no desire to replace it. Why would I care, even if HD was a PS3-only feature?

BluRay

Not an advantage. If Blu-ray wins the format war, you know what? I bet, within six months of that event, Microsoft will have a Blu-Ray drive available for my 360.

Oh, and ... how's the anemic game library coming?

QFT. That's the main reason I haven't gone out to get one yet. That and I'm sitting out the HD-format war until there is a victor [as a side note to that, it really ticks me off that the dual-format players and discs are either not being properly supported, or being downright intentionally squashed]. The PS3 has no (exclusive) game (or even a collection of 2-3 games) that make owning it a priority. On the other hand, the 360 has Mass Effect, which is of "buy-the-console-just-for-this-game" quality.

But... that's largely off-topic.

I would love to see CoH spin-off games for consoles (and PCs). How fun would a fighter be where you got to use the character-creator?!? Also, having CoH made available to console players, so long as there are no resulting changes to the existing game, is purely a good thing. It means there is more money coming into the game we love, which translates into more stuff for us down the road.

While I am admittedly hesitant about the idea of a PS3 port of Co*... it may be a good idea to incorporate a stable platform for gaming and a mass of people that haven't played it yet, infusing the game with more people (and maybe new servers? One could hope) and more money to give everyone even more awesomeness... Like perhaps grappling/wire/web/etc-you-get-the-idea slinging power set...

please note the "may" portion of this post, of course.

[/ QUOTE ]
Not knowing how the game logic of CoX is distributed vis-à-vis the logic distribution in console games that have online play features, I can only hope that a) relegating the client to a rendering engine and b) PvP being restricted to specific zones will rapidly discourage the potential flood of hacks and ganktards from other games. As the lag in the old-style Hami raids has shown, a MitM attack to allow spamming attack commands on the data stream won't let you attack any faster than the server will let you, or change the amount of healing or damage you do/take, etc., which eliminates one avenue of gamehacking; I can think of one other avenue that would provide, at best, a limited advantage to the hacker, but won't describe it (not wanting to give pointers to people intent on violating the EULA, but it would be detectable by the game engine, anyway). The lack of free and open PvP will, hopefully, discourage the twits whose only measure of their skill with a game is how fast and often they can smack down another player, preferably without warning, even more preferably using some marginally-legitimate loophole that lets them gank players without risk.

OK... I have to say I just can't see MMORPGS (in general) or CoH (in specific) being "console-bound" like many of the other types of PC games have become.

Then again, I could be wrong. I never thought the RTS would becomes the new (low) standard in wargaming on PC either.

New President? wut? ... so I take it the blood-letting ensuing from WoW stealing all of the Lineage players (LoL, Koreans) went all the way to the top!? ....Good, Maybe the Industry as a whole will finally start getting away from the tired old E.Q. formula now that Blizzard has totally monopolized it.

But since when has Any president of any Publisher ever bothered to go into details about "a comic book Game?". And Question #2: Does this guy PvP?

EDIT: Oh! He's from Arena.Net...
...that means not only does he PvP, but he's H4rdc00rz and could kick all our [censored] too.
Good! Someone get on the phone to him and tell him this game could use some PvP specialists

President of PlayNC (NCSoft US), not of NCSoft as whole.

The Current NCSoft CEO is Tack Jin Kim, who has been there for as long as I have been following the stock.

As a slight aside Mr Kim owns ~27.4% of the stock, and the Garriot brothers between them own ~4.2% (Richard ~ 2.3% Robert about 1.9%)

360 does HD, but PS3 does it better. 360 can only achieve 1080i, and for many ppl, that's worse than 720p. PS3 does 1080p. Have you even played a PS3? I bet you haven't, you would see a dramatic difference. Blu-Ray has already won the format War, and Microsoft hasn't made a decisions to create a Blue-Ray Add-On, they only had one spokesperson say that if the consumer had enough demand for it, they would consider it.

Oh, and yeah silver membership is free, but not if you want the good stuff. You're faith in Microsoft is kind of funny.

As for the library, who cares? This is about putting an MMO on a Console. If you have to pick one that is better, its definitely the PS3. I've had both consoles. Now that PS3 is affordable, watch the tides turn in the console war.

No, I haven't played one - I don't have a spare four hundred dollars to throw at a PS3. And even then, no I would not see any difference. My TV set is only Standard Definition, like most televisions in the U.S.

The only things a Gold membership gives you is (a) online multiplayer, and (b) downloads are open to Gold members a week sooner than to Silver members. Big whoop.

Besides which, my Gold membership is costing me ... um ... about $3.40/month. Pocket change.

The PS3 is "affordable" only if you forgo backwards compatibility ... which is Sony shooting themselves in the foot. The PS2's backwards compatibility is what sold me on that, instead of the original Xbox, years ago.

Now look, you: I wanted to stick with Playstation. I had a PSX, then a PS2, then another PS2 ... so there was a great deal of brand loyalty going in Sony's favor. But when push came to shove, and it was time to make the step up to the current generation of consoles, the PS3 just didn't have what it took. When I priced out the two purchases I'd make ... I ended up discovering that, even getting the ELITE 360 ... to match peripherals (seocnd controller, one game, rechargable battery packs etc) ...? The PS3 was going to cost me almost $150 more (backwards compatibility was an absolute requirement for me). Compounding the higher price, was a smaller games library. The two together ... was a death knell.

OTOH, if I won the lottery? I'd own a PS3 within the day. And a Wii, if I could find one. And at least one HDTV to hook them up to.

The biggest advantage the 360 has, over the PS3, in terms of an MMO? More consoles sold, worldwide. more consoles = more potential customers = more possible profit.

CoX != consoles unless you make is totally separate from the existing game or has a totally different look. You can't just keep adding content to console games - you do realize that.

Costumes etc will be locked in once the game is released, you can't have a 30 minute download every time you connect and PS doesn't have the storage to maintain large updates forever, it isn't designed for that.

It can handle new zones because those can get downloaded as you enter them but things like costumes, weapons, etc. you would have to have all the time.

Most games only add content over time and a little graphics. CoX adds LOTs of graphics with it's content. Any time graphics practically define the game and the PC users sure aren't gonna give up those updates. It's just a bad fit.

You can't please everyone, so lets concentrate on me.

... what are you talking about? The PS3 has a hard drive, currently produced models are either 40GB or 80GB. This PC has only 70GB, most of which is NOT city of Heroes.

360's generally, usually IMO, have hard drives also - 20GB or 120GB.

Not sure I agree with you on this A_C.
Porting our MMO to PS3? yeah bad call.
NCNC using the resources they already have in place to set up say...
A sandbox style superhero sim/action game along the lines of the Spiderman games, but incorperating the character creator, and the vast array of powers and power set combinations?
Given a decent enemy AI and enough variety in missions... Something like that make all those concolse gamers out there cream thier jeans.

Again, let me just pop in here and say the views and opinions of this Captain Amazing do not reflect the views of myself, The Justice Guard of Virtue or the Society of Evil of CoV Virtue, nor either of it's subsidy or affiliate sg's or coalitions! ^_^ (I know but last time I logged into 7-8 tells and emails from people so, just a precaution. )

On the subject matter, I think personally a single player campaign might be something to look into on the ps3 system but I would warn against going the way of Sony with anything more then that, because they will eventually find a way to add a line in a contract or a clause that lets them take full creative control over the game and will execute it in the fashion they did SWG and Vanguard, both of which had promise and then were run right into the ground. Last I checked they were talking of merging the last four servers on Vanguard together :P

Consoles are the latest fad, PC's will always be the way of the future since it's easy to expand upgrade and such, as opposed to the consumer who will pay what is it now 400 for a new piece of hardware, with the new upgraded version it's somewhere near 700 for the larger drive, not even a tera-byte either :/
Again just my thoughts.

Two of the more exciting news bits for me:

NCPass?

For the past year (or longer) I’ve been asking NCSoft when they’ll let us pay one monthly fee (obviously higher than 14.99$) for access to their suite of games. The answer is always “soon” and sadly – it is again! “[We] should have something to announce this year,” said Chung. “There isn’t anything really holding it back, but timing, making sure our infostructure supports it, and we want to make sure it’s the right thing for our customers.”

Play Station 3

NCSoft has partnered up with Sony and is beginning to develop some titles for the PS3! I asked Chung if we’d be seeing City of Heroes, Tabula Rasa, or one of the other NC titles on the console soon. Chung answered, “The game needs to feel right on a console.” While some of the current NCSoft IPs might be present on the PS3, straight port is likely not the answer. Keep on the look out, too, for some entirely new NCSoft IPs.

NCSoft in 2008, bring it on!
