That would suck! I hope none of us have wasted our day waiting on this thing, only to have it not happen until they roll out the Character Transfer/Renames.

Yeah, it didn't require all this linked functionality last time.
All we can do now is hope that the Transfer/Rename system goes out sometime next week. Everyone test it if you can and make sure we get all the bugs out, so we get it up faster. I want my names!!!

Is this going live today? I've been checking periodically and it doesn't seem to have been rolled out yet.

I am thinking this is announcement is fair and I believe it will free up a whole heck of a lot of names.
They just made an announcement about an Update going live tomorrow morning during maintenance. Looks like they are pushing this puppy out tomorrow and the name purge with it!

Is it possible you or your friend were on trial accounts that you never paid for? That's the only reason I can think of that they would delete characters.
ok, this free's up some names.. there is no way whatsoever to know what names are freed is there? not only that, what is the big deal with this?
So did this go live? Anyone know? Anyone get any naes you are surprised about?
I havent tried, and checked this thread out to see if anythings been happening.

As things stand now, the game is getting an update tomorrow morning (Aug 30th) and the maintenance is expected to last up to 3 hours. This is a slightly larger window than normal maintenance, and so I'm betting money on a very quick push of the Character Transfer and Rename tomorrow. Lighthouse said that the name purge will occur once the Transfers are rolled out. So if we all keep our fingers crossed, we'll have both by tomorrow afternoon!!

Theres nothing about 3 hours. i think you misread the other time zone. But, I would guess it has to do with the name wipe.

Nope, they're full retail accounts. The characters had been on my account for 3 years up until last week.
Drats! Looks like I got overly excited about nothing. It's so weird that Lighthouse went out of his way to announce an update so late in the day, for it to just be the Eden Trial rewards and game stability. They don't announce patch updates to live servers ahead of time like that normally, do they?
Oh well...maybe next week...

Seriously, some people must be way more psyched about the whole name change/check than I am.
(Heck, I'm not even all that certain what the Name Check Tool does, lol. But, Apostrophe's now those are important!)
I kinda wish they'd say a TINY bit more about what they did in the way of increasing game stability.
I mean, you'd think they'd have that nailed down buy now, as many times as it's nebulously listed in the patch notes over time.

As long as you have a character on the server, you can use the name check to see if a name is available.

I posted about the timing of this in the Announcement Thread. We're still a "ways" out on Character Rename and Transfer, so please no holding your breath for it. I don't want anyone turning blue or anything like that!

So are we getting another 30 day notice, or are you just gonna spring it all on us one day since you already gave a 30 day notice? 
The original notice was saying, "Hey, any time after Aug. 29th, names of characters under level 6 on accounts inactive over 90 days can go poof at any time." Fair warning.
We are just revising things to let you know we are not going to pull the trigger on the might name poofer until Character Rename and Character Transfer are good to go. That will coincide with the Rename functionality nicely. Thanks for your patience!

Any chance you can give us an exact day it will be on. If not now then when character transfers are ready. Some might not care, but I got up extra early these past few days to check names. Id really appreciate it!
