They're mini-nukes, like the Blasters, Corrupters, Defenders, and to a lesser extent, the Van Dammes.

Considering that the skies here in Austin have been "Rikti Invasion Stormy" this week (and have been almost continuously since Issue 10 went to the Test Server), it's a little worrisome to glance out the windows here at work and think the War Walls around the various sectors of the capital city are flickering on and off as the invaders from the south come up I-35 from San Antonio to-

... wait ...

Wrong news story. Sorry.

It's the end. But the moment has been prepared for ...

Attention these warnings are annoying in Steel Canyon. Please be advised this is really not getting any more tolerable!!!

Attention I really can't handle these warnings anymore in Cap Au Diable. Non-Combatants are warned not to login or they won't be able to read any chat!!!

Attention, how did this spam fest make it past the test-server bet nazis in Grandville?! You are advised to please find some way to turn these off or I will be forced to go insane!!!

Attention, are you starting to get the idea in Steel Canyon?! There's only so many of these you really need to see? At the very least roll all the current attack zones into one message that only goes once every 10 minutes or something. I really can't stand it!!!

Obsidius hadn't experienced the First Rikti War. The Dimensional Entities did not send him to Paragon until right after the war, when she was in her weakest state, in dire need of help.

He had been through many trials by fire before then, as a slave to his makers, and afterwards, as a hero of the city. He learned the ropes of his current profession from the Back Alley Brawler, someone who had been there. Brawler had instructed him to never let his guard down - to always be vigilant.

But nothing could have prepared him for this day.

Obsidius was one to drop in on his enemies unexpectedly, from above. "They never look up," that was his motto. On this day, however, he should had been the one looking up.

He took rest in an alley, channeling the power of the earth to heal the plasma burns on his back. The Drop Ship had got the drop on him during his flight patrol, the same way he got the drop on his enemies. By the time he was aware of it, the ship was bearing down from above, cannons blazing with malevolent purpose.

As the burns subsided, he heard the sound of bombs exploding and the unmistakable drone of Rikti portals opening, not far from his hidden resting spot. Seconds later, the screams of citizens rang out in horror, echoing against the alleyway.

Obsidius shrugged off his injury and picked up his axe. The city was in peril again, perhaps the worst peril since he arrived in this world.

Another day, another trial. The Entities were apparently not done with him yet.

Inside Burn Machine’s helmet, a small notification pops up on the HUD of his visual display. With a small, almost unnoticeable gesture, his well trained team takes up defensive positions, and awaits further orders. As he digests the incoming data, only the metal surrounding him hides his rage from the squad. He activates a small beacon, and all he says is, “Form up. We’re heading back to the base.” As one, they activate their “porters” and return to their hidden lair.

Arriving back on the teleport pads, the team is met by still more of their kind as everyone has received the “Emergency Recall and Reactivation Beacon” previously sent out, and is now pouring into the base. This team is not like you’re normal team. This team is made up of heroes who each received their powers in different and unique ways… but there is one thing that unites them. Every last one of them can control fire. Every last one of them emits radiation. Some might think that a team simply made up of those who controlled said powers wouldn’t be that strong, but they would be wrong. Through a lot of planning, practicing, and determination, these “fire and radiation controllers” combine their powers to achieve incredible results and there are few things in Paragon indeed that can withstand the might of the F.Rads!

Once everyone has arrived, questions start flying around.

Except for giant wings that protrude from his back, a normal looking ‘killa asks “What gives Burn? Why the recall?” “<Killobot 5000 also requests said information>” chimes a mechanical voice from the back. “Ya! What’s so bad that we ALL need to be here???” the hero known as “Fiery Ageone” asks incredulously. Various other similar questions start to ring out from around the room.

“I’ve brought you here because we’re going to NEED everyone we can get.” says the team’s founder and leader. “Indeed Ageone, it’s been a long time since we faced something requiring all of us, but that’s exactly what we face now. Those of you who didn’t take the porters in, might have heard the sirens already. The Rikti have been secretly repairing their downed ‘mothership’ and have begun opening portals to their homeworld again! The crash site has turned into a war zone and the Vangaurd are going to need all the help they can get.”

The room erupts but is finally brought quite by Burn Machine.

“We hadn’t formed this group the last time the Rikti hit our world… but we’re here now. It’s time these Rikti see what we can do, and it’s time we teach them our power. THIS time Paragon isn’t going down so easily. THIS TIME, the Rikti are going to face the F.Rads! THIS TIME THE RIKTI WILL BURN!”

My father was a hero named Dragon Ranger. He died in the first Rikti War, as did my mother.

Ironically, I was at my foster father's home in New Jersey when the Rikti first attacked.

There was a huge warship over Menlo Park Mall, and the bomb was stuck in the giant glass dome. From the news reports, everyone was freaking out and couldn't even leave the place because the Rikti were swarming outside. Luckily, a local hero took care of the UXB, but not before paying an ultimate price; he was destroyed by the warship's death ray. Without a MedCom network in our town, he was toast.

I've seen far too much death at the hands of the Rikti. Now the reason I suited up as a superhero has finally arrived...

To pay the Rikti back in kind.

The Clockwork Paladin stomped through King's Row terrorizing everyone in it's path and carving an wide path of destruction. It cornered a mother and child in an inescapable pathway.
As the claws of the Paladin charged up, she said quietly to her daughter "Close your eyes honey" and held her daughter tightly.

Suddenly, there was an explosion. She opened her eyes to see the Paladin knocked forward off balance by an energy blast from behind it. Her daughter, no more than six years old looked on smiling and jumping cheering "Heroes! Heroes!"

Flames furiously engulfed it melting steel and iron. Another blast, followed by a bolt of lightning. Soon there a swarm of heroes attacking the Paldin as though angry bees had their hive disturbed. The heroes of Paragon City proved themselves once again at the leadership of Glixar, an outcast alien. The ragtag group pounded at the Paladin until it fell into a flaming pile of molten scrap... That's when the skies darkened and he realized there was a bigger threat.

Glixar looked up flipping his helmet visor up and saw the Rikti destroyers, something he hadn't seen since he left his shattered home world.

Each hero there knew what had to be done. Bounty or not, Glixar had no love for the Rikti and wasn't about to stand idly by as they destroyed another society, nor were any of the indigenous heroes in Paragon City he wagered...
