Poll: Unofficial PvP Server Poll
Picking the most populated server will increase the population, but people may move out so the influx will be offset a little (you'd still have more coming in than going out.) As much as I like Freedom, I'm starting to think Infinity is a better choice.

1/10th of the zones on any server are PvP zones. Just stick to the other 9/10ths and you won't get ganked.
[/ QUOTE ]
But that's the point, I don't have to worry much about that now getting Shivans or Nukes, why should we be exiled from content because we have no desire to deal with the ganker attitude?
[/ QUOTE ]
Any exile would be self-imposed, and done on the assumption that it would be "PVP, full zone, 24/7." Freedom's busy because it has a large population - and even then I can get in and out without having to worry. PVPers tend to congregate in areas near the bases or "known" dueling/fighting zones. Some patrol, sure, but that doesn't, in my experience, apply to the majority.
Do what you have to do now - pay attention to what's going on - and you'll be fine.
Honestly, I'm just not sure this is the right approach.
Suppose I want to get my feet wet with PvP and try it out? If there's the "PvP server" then the hard core folks will have you breakfast, and then they'll be the gankers, the pvp rep farmers etc. And I suspect that it will raise the basic minimum requirements to enter a PvP zone, both in terms of hardware (you'll need a good graphics card, processor etc to handle all the mad bunny hopping pvp'ers) and in terms power choices (pvp without super speed and super jump? not advisable) and IO's/Hami O's and the like. I really like the invention system, but someone who plays around with it even a little will be at a huge advantage to someone only using SO's in PvP.
I believe that the better solution is to have a less cut throat more supportive environment for folks to gain some experience in PvP. I highly recommend the Giza Fight Night on Virtue. Great fun and uniformly positive folks all the way around. I would think this is the better way forward.
When I first started PvPing I went to the zones and got torn up constantly. Whether it was from the completely invisible stalkers from I-6 who then really could 1-shot you without you're being able to see it coming, or just the massive gang tackle [[ yes, I went solo into Sirens.. ] zone pvp didn't allow any breathing room to learn anything. You walked in, maybe you saw a target, cued up an attack, and then splat.
If PvP consolidates to one server, it'll actually restrict the community to only those hard core folks with PvP groups, ventrillo servers, et. al. Folks don't come to PvP in nice balanced pentads, they come individually. Zone PvP is virtually impossible for a newbie to survive, much less enjoy, other than a stalker [and even they have issues].
My advice, for what it's worth:
1. Provide rewards for arena pvp play, experience, temp powers, costume pieces, whatever. But some reason for someone to say "Sure why not?" when asked to an arena match.
2. Schedule "Zone Level" arena events. I'm sure the Super Heavy Weight arena matches are fun for those involved, but fully kitted out 50's are still rather rare, and I don't think that that's where the growth potential lies. I'd concentrate on folks in the "middle" to heavy weight divisions levels 25-38.
Lag is a real worry, as it devolves the game into who has the better processor or what have you. I think an unofficial PvP server will increase this problem, and further limit the PvP community to those with the hardware to handle it.
An "unofficial PvP server" I think has some issues associated with it. I'm just wondering what the upside is expected to be?

...actually, the majority of Ganker builds require low or unpopulated zones to function most effectively in and unsuspecting victims, especially stalkers and traps/decives. In a fully populated zone those same gankers usually become the ganked when large teams with complete support builds show up. So if you got ganked, then it would be b/c you didn't join a team for whatever given task, not b/c some other jerk brought in his solo ganking FotM just to ruin your Shivan/Nuke run. Sometimes a well populated zone makes it easier to achieve those tasks.
My home servers are Freedom and Virtue and the busy zones really keep ppl honest.
...that said, I see no point at all in Freedom or Virtue being either of the PvP servers. I play on both and they're definitely un-fit for good crisp large-scale PvP fights. The 3 I'm thinking of are... Champion, Justice, and Infinity but I can't decide. Anyone able to offer a clincher on those?
Out of those 3 I'd pick Infinity. I still love Liberty as well.
[ QUOTE ]
Why would anyone want to move to Freedom for PvP? It is already over crowded to the point where it lags horribly, and if and when there is another double XP weekend good luck with that. To top it off the arena is always so dead there. They had no one show for their SMP while the other servers (except Virtue who failed to get more than a single group) had at least 3 and Infinity got 7 full teams to come out for it.

I agree strongly with this comment.
When it comes to PVE, I think no server can beat FREEDOM or VIRTUE. Hands down. But, it would be nice to have a PvP server with a modest population that is already established in the PvP world. A server that could handle a major PvP zone event and not lag even more so because of the PVE load being placed on it already.
My vote is for Infinity .

I submit to the point that sometimes a well populated zone makes it easier to make shivan or nuke runs, but it still creates more barriers than it limits. If full support, coordinated teams are common, then anything less than that is almost certainly toast. I've been on some of these coordinated teams, and the other thing that doesn't melt before them is another well coordinated team, and then it is often a question of who got the first shot off. I'm not sure that that environment is at all preferable to the casual or new PvP'er than the old I-6 no one can see stalkers who can one-shot any squishie at will. In this case, being able to see the threat, and knowing there's jack all you can do to survive it, isn't an improvement.
Peace

I agree as well, while pvp'ing the last thing I want is a ton of lag from all the pve players
I bet alot of PvErs will move to freedom to make it even laggier
For anyone from the PvE community that wishes to see the results of this poll all you need to do is answer one question and it will pull the results for you.
The last question is fairly harmless if you want to answer that one, you can then see the posted results.
I do appreciate people withholding from taking the poll out of respect to the PvP community.

I think price of trasfer really hurts the pvper more. Most of us play more than 1 AT/Role in team pvp. If your main healer for example cant play one night, someones gotta do it right? Not to mention, if we only transfered 1 toon to a certain server...we would have no alternative but to either pay more money, or to stay with that same team format. Obviously, bigger groups would be able to swap in more versatile team builds due to the number of ppl, but this causes some dilemma ex.
For some casual guy who just wants to move their namesake toon, or change a toon name at the same time as they free up a slot on their home server....10, 20 bucks is worth it.
For someone like me, who is a jack of all trades in heroes and villains, and multiple accounts (im not the only one, look at the globals in your ladder thread)..you'll see how dedicated we are.
If it were 5 bucks a transfer...i think ppl would be more willing to shuffle off somewhere.
OR
Give everyone 1 free transfer for 1 toon. That would be something EVERYONE could enjoy.
I think price is a bigger issue for PvPers than what is talked about on the forums.
Globals - @Incursion. & @Incursion-
/agree with your statements.
I think the gist of this poll though would allow people to make a pro active attempt to building up characters in already healthy PvP environments and not having to rely on the transfer service except in the case of that one or two main toons.
The further you push out the decisions while still leveling up toons on less vital pvp servers the less options you may have in the future other than server transfers.
If people want to start toons on Freedom they can do that. Transferring over, not likely to happen in the beginning.
If people want to start toons on Infinity, Champion, or Liberty they can do that, with the likely chance they can move other toons over later as well.
It comes down to giving you all options to increase your ability to PvP on a live server with an already healthy PvP community.
I think this poll is more about what you will choose to do today instead of what you will choose to do when transfers are available.
At least that is how I would be approaching that situation, unless I consider myself part of the Hardcore Test population in which case it doesn't matter, I just have to deal with the 3x's a year when my server of choice will be closed for a few weeks.
Nothing new here, the data has just been quantified that is all.

I think a totally fair thing to do would be to have the price diminish for the account...1st transfer - 10$, 2nd - 7.50$, 3rd through 5th - 5$
You get the idea...
i think it would be cool to just buy packages of transfers. Like 3 tranfers for 12.50, 2 for 10, 1 for 7.50.
Globals - @Incursion. & @Incursion-
Bulk discounts would go along nicely with the 1 month, 3 month, 6 month et. al. plans in place for subscription.

/QFT ...if Subscriptions work this way, then why can't Transfers? ...I mean the NC tech who's pulling up your Account to do the Transfers would be saving time by doing a batch-move anyway so why not pass the savings on to the Customer?

This is not my experience. I've been in numerous large Freedom zone bloodlettings, primarily in Sirens and RV, and it's mostly fine.
However what I want to see is the same thing on other servers as well for the many who have performance problems on Freedom.
Why are you asking non-PvP'ers not to participate in this exactly? Once again devs don't realize that something like this will affect non-PvP'ers. As in I'd transfer my characters OFF a server that was designated as the "PvP server."
Therefore I will "particpate" in this "survey" and choose servers I do not play on as my suggestions for servers to be designated as PvP.
Because coming into the PvP forums to sour the decision of a community you are not a part of actively is just silliness.

I don't have anything really against PvP in general, and dabble in it myself on a very casual basis, but I have zero interest in seeing my "home" overrun by the "hardcore PvP" crowd (and truthfully, it's the wanna-be-hardcore-PvPers that are the issue, a lot of the true PvPers want good competition, not the gankfest and uber-smack-talk that I fear would go with a designated server).
Perhaps a new server, with players allowed one free transfer to the server for the first weeks after it opens. If nothing else, it would put everyone on equal footing as far as bases, etc., and it would avoid the "not in my backyard" backlash from herding PvPers onto a pre-existing server.

Freedom is already overloaded as it is. There ARE actually those of us that don't PvP on a regular basis and we have been here since beta.
You're going to get backlash from any server you assign this to. Why not make a new server for PvPers and offer them a few free transfers? Make sure the new server has a notice about it being PVP, and then no one can complain about PvE vs PvP on it.

Except I'm not trying to sour anything. I just feel non-PvP'ers have every right to express their opinion on the one question of:
[ QUOTE ]
(Opinion) What server do you think is the best location to designate as the unofficial place to PVP?
[/ QUOTE ]
Lets put it this way, if the question was about designating a RP server I'd have no problem with anti-RP'ers voting for servers they don't regularly play on. That is just as valid an opinion as RP'ers voting for ones they do call home.
I also feel that a redname organizing all this also goes against the very definition of "unofficial", but that's a whole nother argument.
The second line in Ex Libris's poll is:
[ QUOTE ]
If you do not PvP or are not interested in learning how to PvP please do not participate in this poll.

...Is like a restaurant saying "Please, No Smoking." It doesn't mean you can smoke in there, they are just asking nicely. So no, you don't have every right.
