Discussion: The City Scoop! July 13, 2007

I've looked over the discussion thread from last week, and i can't seem to find it, but i'm farily sure somebody brought up how lead was about bringing the community together, or some such.. (i think it was you and Jman i believe). I think it was you who last week mentioned the Steel 70 as a community gathering, and that's why it was lead. But this week, you've got several plausible leads. But no, instead your lead is a simple contest. Is that what lead could end up being? The next contest that comes about, whether it be "design the avatar for the next redname", or "name this character" kind of things?

I just want to say Tundara, I think that's a very solid and effective critique. Even if it's not my own piece, I can get something from it, since I try to go with that incharacter route from time to time. Thanks.

Quick correction:

The "Nestor" in the IMHO article is actually NESTER. My bad

The behind the mask interviews, have been a little underwhelming.
The copy past questions, the notoriously belligerent person being highlighted. It exhibits a lack of interest, and it looks very very sloppy.

This weeks was much better, over whomever has been doing them.

Actually, what I was thinking about was Short Stories now that the Comic's are gone, but the Scoop isn't really a suitable vehicle for them, length being a potential issue. You could do them in bits or parts I suppose.

[/ QUOTE ]

True. Or, if you had them on a personal web site or some other repository for longer works, the Scoop could print some kind of writeup with a link to it.

The arts section has primarily been visual art so far, but that doesn't mean it has to be strictly limited to that.

Actually, short stories could definetly work. The Lexington Herald Leader, for example, has done short stories before for the kids. (Such as a multi-part Bunnicula story)

See, the obvious (And best) solution is for the City Scoop to go with an all LiquidX format.

That's funny... considering the next one will be Issue X!

My name is LiquidX. An All LiquidX format would be nothing but articles about me.

For future reference, LiquidX is a nutter. He enjoys collecting restraining orders, face slaps and being blamed for causing mental breakdowns in various peoples.

The Scoop, in what I imagine as an all LiquidX format, would most likely be unprintable here due to the rating system in place. On the plus side, no worries, right.

I was thinking an all LiquidX formats would be him writing it on himself and parading through the forums for all to read.

For the Justice League Finals article, Frau Holle is also part of Team Bacon. She sat out match 1 but was in matches 2 and 3.

Defender – Thanks to an alien prince gathering up all the bulls on earth, Saggitarius has been restored. You will give LiquidX ten dollars.

Scrapper – Col. Mustard took out Uranus in the observitory with the Candlestick. You will give LiquidX ten dollars.

Tanker - A wizard did it. You will give LiquidX ten dollars.

I will be sure to run an apology and error correction on that in the next Scoop. I personally apologize for omitting her participation.

No worries Dumok. Honest mistake. I just didn't want her to be forgotten. Thanks

I didn't see much of Digital Thunder the 2nd or 3rd match either.
Not saying he wasn't doing anything, I just couldn't see him. Darn Invisibility.

I'm thinking of maybe begging for GM priviledges just so I can use a police drone thingy to cover events in zones on servers I have only low level alts on. Maybe those things fly faster than the observer camera too. It's really tough to keep up with the action in some of those matches when you're stuck in slow-mo mode.

If you want my feedback, I'll be brutally honest. I really found it grating and iritating. The constant plugging of the various IO names was at first a little neat but got to be like a finger nail was being dragged across the nerves very fast. A lot of them seemed to be stretches and inconsistent with the articles voice. The worst bit was the in character bit where Qaurterfield uses three different IO Names in as many sentences...

The in-character nature of the article was alright in concept, but having the interviews that were breaking the 4th barrier created an inconsistency that was jarring, and for me, interrupted the flow.

[/ QUOTE ]

So, presuming for a moment that I had either been more clever in performing the interviews, or had asked for more license in working the quotes into the piece: Does this work better?

Yes, that is much better, in my opinion. The piece maintains it's RP perspective, flow, and is still informative. Much much better Protea.
