I'm glad to see them go. It was not an engaging nor fun comicbook. The writing was stupid although the art was good.

Cryptic starts working with Marvel.

Cryptic shuts down its own comic.

Uhhhh, somebody want to pop a quick "In no way was this decision influenced by Cryptic's partnership with Marvel Comics" in there? I'm feeling a tad paranoid today and could use the comfort disclaimer.

Well I wish I could be the one to offer that to you, but anyone that's worth their space, knows that it does. Image was founded when several high profile talents got p'od at the Big M, Top Cow is a partner company of Image, hmmm, in the words of The famous Stan Lee, " 'nuff said!" Not to mention that Cryptic has partnered up with the Big M, which presents a huge conflict of interest, considering they are a rival company.

[/ QUOTE ]Not too sure really. I do know that Marvel Universe Online will be using Xbox 360 and Windows Vista as the only two operating platforms. I don't expect it to do very well because of the Xbox 360 having issues, and I expect MUO to utterly fail because really, who wants Windows Vista?

Not to threadjack but I feel that's a bit of flawed logic. What really matters is not the OS or console, but the game itself. Couple years ago I would wager many of us thought that a mmo set in the sims universe or star wars universe would bring in big bucks...and look where those games are at now.

I have faith in MUO because cryptic is behind it. I won't rush out and buy it until reviews come in, but as a player of Co* I have a interest in it. I may even buy the xbox 360 version that comes out (for fear my comp might not be able to handle MUO)

umm just out of curiosity, have you tried vista? I'm using it as we speak, and it's just amazing. All the bad rumors are just that; rumors... well that and isolated bad cases.
Vista has so many nice perks over xp, and it looks a hellofalot nicer, I don't know why you WOULDN'T want to use it. unless you're broke. or a mac fanboy. or a luddite. or like the name 'XP' better because it reminds you of the purple bar and helps motivate you towards leveling that next alt up. I think you get my point.
If you haven't tried it, don't bash it! It's amazing!

Growing pains.

The comic may yet come back, when they are able to really support it. So may everything else they have tried to give us so far. I'm not convinced that they do not care.

Question - What does your EULA say about transfering your copy from one computer to another?

I seem to recall a article saying that the liscense permitted you to only use it on one computer at a time, and no more than two ever - and no definition of what constitutes a new computer other than some [censored] about "it is determined by a complicated algorithm".

And how far into bed they have gone with RIAA/MIAA on the copyright protection and the limits it imposes sounds discouraging as well.

I'll throw in my two bits worth and also say that its a bit disheartening to see Top Cow's run of CoH line come to an end. For an MMO based on comic book heroes and villains, it just doesn't seem right not having it. Having the 'free' CoH comics included with my monthly subscription was certainly a draw and a factor in deciding to go with CoH. I know Blue King wasn't up to par with current writing/penciling and I was very happy Top Cow picked up the series but dammit! Don't take my comic away.

Rant aside. My suspicions lie with Marvel putting a team together to take up the series now that they are in partnership with Cryptic. At some point down the line, I think we'll see CoH line of comics again. Marvel isn't in the habit of giving anything away sods that they are.

Slightly different view - I've passed up a game or two specifically because they were for "Windows Vista." Running XP here, and I'm in no hurry to upgrade (*cough*) to Vista for at *least* another six months, if not longer. I don't need to have a larger, more memory intensive "pretty" OS to do the exact... same... job.

98 to XP made sense. I ran NT before, I knew it was more stable, etc, etc so I didn't mind making that jump. XP to Vista? ... not so much. So, Vista "only" games... no thanks. (And I'm not buying a console. I have no interest in them.)

I liked the City of Heroes comic book. It was nice to get to see the various depictions of the signature heroes (especially Mynx…rowr!) and the writing definitely was improving toward the end of its run. And it was nice to get the sense that the signature heroes were actually doing something rather than just standing around handing out task forces or training all day.

Yeah, Statesman was a jerk and that was kind of annoying. On the other hand, so is Captain America lately. And the other heroes were kind of cool. I'm going to miss finding out whether Positron is able to make War Witch a bit more solid.

It's too bad they can't at least continue the book as a webcomic series.

Oh well. Guess I'll just have to keep writing RP Congress stuff for my CoH story fix.

I miss the days when the comic arrived in the mail every month, relatively reliably. I'm sad to see it go. I even enjoyed the Blue King version, because seeing the heroes, enemies, and so on in the comic was a blast.

Maybe they'll get the urge to run a City of Villains print run instead

If the money for making this came out of our subscription fees and that money now becomes available to pay for something I can enjoy, like more game content, then I'm happy.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is how I'm takeing the whole thing. Even if I loved the comic (which is not the case) I love the game more and always hope the in-game needs trump the City of side projects.

[/ QUOTE ]

Exactly. I'd rather they focus all their efforts towards the game itself. Both comics had their ups & downs, but neither have ever been the reason we play the game. If, by cutting the comic, they can have just one more Dev fixing bugs, making new content, and helping CoX be a better game, then it's worth it to me.

Sad to see it go, becuase seeing anything creative end is sad. But I thought the comic was terrible, focused on characters I could give two cents about after they were introduced as jerks, and liked the older Blue King comics more. Long live War Witch.

Honestly, the comic needed to die.

Issue 19 made me sick. Here posi, have some salvage.

what the ?!?!
I like comics that are comics and realistic, not some cheap game copy. Where is statesman and his hostess cupcakes and kung fu grip?

The first coh series conflicted with the game definitions (like peacebringers and their true form, etc).

Sad part was, the stories had potential. If you treated it like an epic comic, instead of a cheap game tie-in, it would have been good.

I would have loved to see a serious rikti war prelude graphic novel. But they would probably say 'I need inspirations', or 'Im dead, anyone have a rez inspiration?', 'I only have training TO's', "will you PL meh?!?!', or 'oh good, I got a debt badge!'

wow, can I just say wow! I go away for a few months and then come back all hyped about issue ten almost here, and now I find all kinds of "smells rotten in Denmark" issues!

To be honest the Prima Guide thing was a game killer for me, as another poster said "they aint cheep". I was really looking forward to the update packs, was glad to shell out more dough to get them. That was a big bummer for me.

Heck - the Titanic had a better run then the Prima Guides!

Sadly enough, I only recently bought them...and then I find that they're not being updated anymore. Go figure.
