[/ QUOTE ]

As long as the word "Yiffy" is never used, Medieval furries are fine by me.

The word itself isn't that bad. It just so happens that when the word is used with Furries, things can get weird.

Lets just say that I dated a girl one time who was waaaaaay too into Furries. I learned things in the one week I dated her that I dare not speak of again.

Well, except to make people uncomfortable at parties. That's always fun.

Well, I am pretty entertaining. I usually don't get invited very often though. That's what happens when you don't drink. I get a lot of calls at 3:00 AM to be a Designated Driver though.

If you really want to get noticed in a restaraunt, enter dressed in full plate armor complete with dents from the days battles.
I used to be in the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism).

Did something like that one time... Went to Burger King in garb after a Shire business meeting. A lady asked me if I was in the SCA - and I couldn't help but respond "No, I'm in a play!".

Non SCAers may or may not get the joke....

Classic!

Perfect. Hehe.

But, I was in the SCA. =)

I once ate at a random McDonald's together with the dark clan of demon-worshippers I LARPed with, just after the LARP was over. Of course, we were all more or less in costume, and it was great fun getting funny looks from the staff and other customers at our evil-looking robes (and a few of us were warriors still in chainmail).

Be proud of your geekiness!

When I was in grad school (Physics) we used to go to Denny's late to unwind sometimes, and of course we talked about what we all had in common (Physics). We got a lot of the same funny looks you were probably giving those guys. Let me ask you this: what SHOULD people talk about in restaurants? For that matter, how can there be anything that people "should" talk about at restaurants late at night? If they were discussing Survivor or Lost is that any better? Isn't it all arbirtary?

I've lived in Austin all my life. I've never been to Freebird's. I keep meaning to try it at some point, but never have. Usually if I'm in the mood for Tex-Mex I go to Trudy's.

Dangit! I had managed to put the verb Yif out of my mind, now I have to go Brillo™ the inside of my skull.

Ow! My libido!

IMHO, Trudy's is overrated. They used to be good back in the day, and the food is still OK, but since they became uber-popular it's just not as good anymore. I'll take Amaya's or Arandas over Trudy's any day.

Empire in Arms and University.

Empire in Arms is a board game of Napoleonic Grand Strategy and Diplomacy that covers a 10 year period and it may be that a play session covers but a single month at a time.

Well, while going to University there was about 10 (or more) of us that had been playing one game for the past several months and we would hold court in the cafetaria of the Student Union building. Though we only played once a week all day everyday in one booth, the players would sit and talk about the game, making devious, subtle, or grandiloquent diplomatic deals and blusters. You could show up there first thing in the morning, go for three hours of class, and return there and find the same conversation still going on.

Insane. Intense. Intriguing. In amongst my fondest gaming memories.

I used to get together with some friends once a week at a local Chili's to discuss our results/plans for the turn of Middle Earth Play by Mail wargame we were on. Imagine a couple guys in suits and ties, and a couple guys in T-shirts & shorts, all with briefcases sitting around eating chips, and discussing how best to assassinate the Witch-King of Angmar and mobilize troops to protect the southern flank of the Greenwood from the Dog Lords heavy cavalary.

I think we got the best looks when we pulled out the full size grid maps of middle earth and began putting pins and markers out to plot troop movements.

Quote from Negami: "Nerd! "

My response to him: "Um.. pot calling the kettle black much? Dork."

Beyond that reposting his story for him since his work is mean:

[ QUOTE ]
He and some friends were at a local restaurant that's open 24hours and is quite popular with all kinds of people. During their dinner a group of three people was sat behind them. Two of them looked "normal" enough while the third looked like the epitome of the stereotypical Nerd/Dork.

Their conversation was quiet enough that little was overheard until the sound of a derisive snort with accompanying laughter carried to negami's ears followed by "If I were a borg and I was going to invade earth"

He has no idea what was said after that, as all he could hear was his howls of laughter.

Cute Punch!

Ha, I remember fondly the days when my roomies and I (1 male, 1 female) used to go to Industrial and Metal concerts all decked out in ripped up bloody clothing and skull make-up...and then go directly to whatever local cheesy strip bar we could find. Grand fun (and a good place to be an attention getter)! I remember running into Marilyn Manson's band one time like that (Marilyn himself had gone to bed)!

Dec out.

The KK we used to go to was the one down Stratford from the old Thruway Theatre.
