For those of us not at GDC, here's some goodies to tide us over!

Check out the action-packed preview movie for the next ish.

Also check out GameSpot's Cryptic/NCsoft report from the GDC show floor. They talk to Positron, aka Matt Miller, and he lets a few more tiny teasers slip.

What's with the new Cryptic logo?

I don't know if it's my work pc but I can't seem to load the movie in either firefox or ie.

Had the same problem w/ FF, but reloading the page worked for me. Otherwise, might be a problem w/ WMP or QT.

QT worked in Firefox for me.

Is anyone else slightly disappointed with that video?

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the hell out of a preview and I loved the fact that they had the kindness to show us all that they did. But it just seems like a bit misleading. It talks about "previewing the invention system", but aside from the wings (which we have seen in pictures) and the bat and sledgehammer (which I am thankful for), the only preview of the invention system I saw was toons using the invent emote (the animation I mean). I was expecting a shot of the invention window or maybe a shot of the "new enhancement created" title (like "Badge Earned") or whatever. Didn't really see too much new stuff. As far as actual "inventing". The rest was phenominal.

Again, I am not shouting DOOM or spreading hate for anything, just wondering if anyone was a little disappointed by the "invention preview" as I was. Otherwise I thought it was a great preview and I bow down with my hat off to the Devs.

The Consortium Conglomerate of the Rogue Islands sued Cryptic Studios of Paragon City for the rights to the logo, which happens to be of the Hellforge in Sharkhead Island. While it seemed that the Consortium was going to back down, with a new corporate logo (three swirls in the shape of a triangle), Cryptic Studios decided to change/update their own logo as to avoid further litigations.

Not really. The videos are always teasers.

Heck, I'm glad they don't show too much - things that have been in videos before (like feather physics for wings, robot leg sounds for robot legs, walking, etc.) sometimes don't make it to Live (or are just for demo purposes), often leaving those who notice these small details disappointed.

No sir, I don't like it. Not to be unpleasant, but whoever designed the new logo should have all their body hair waxed off

Very true, and good point. I do feel a shot of some invention window would have been nice, but none the less, better to not know what IS coming, oppose to knowing what MIGHT NOT be coming.

It's tobad our ultimate foe is a big blob of goo. I used to love fighting boses in nintendo games because they were always something really cool looking and often scary, like in Zelda. But I am still looking forward to I9

Yeah... Hamidon as the 'ultimate foe' is a little... I don't know. Disapointing? Ultimate foes should also look the part. Giant blobs don't really do it for me.

Granted, never done a Hamidon fight (particular not villain side ) so maybe it's cool. Those clips kinda reminded me of the big evil thingy from 5th Element. I could get on board with something like that.

Still. I wanna know who makes Hamidon quiver like jello. And then beat them up!

Agreed. /signed <QT>, w/e

I thought I was the only one who thought that Hami was a bit....bland. I always heard people talking about doing a Hami raid, and I just thought people thought it was cool. I've done a few, but it didn't seem like any real "Epic" battle or anything. Something about fighting dessert that just seems silly. The idea is great, just the Hami character is a bit lackluster.

On the Cryptic Website, in their "In Development" section about future games, they have a concept picture of what I think would be a GREAT epic boss or something like Hami. It is the first pic, where it looks like a jungle and it is just a Giant, ancient, monster-thing with a big club. That would be cool.
But of course, Hami is fine now, especially since they plan on fixing it, and I am happy with that. But we can dream....

Click on the square of pictures to open picture viewer and see monster I am talking about

While the video may have been awesome for me, personally, and many other vets of the game, I get the feeling the video is not going to win over that many new customers.

The biggest deal about I9 is the inventions system, of course, so when the video gets to the part about creating your own "stuff", like weapons, what does the video reveal to us? A sledgehammer... and a baseball bat. People who are expecting to see super-duper heroic pyrotechnic blasts of high-powered mega goodness would obviously be disappointed.

Me, on the other hand, can't wait to whup bad guys upside the head with a baseball bat. It's almost an insult to hold off on my galactic super-powered blasts of doom to smack the bad guy in question with a big stick. Also, inventing simple stuff like a pistols or bows is going to be really handy for pulling with melee ATs.
