Discussion of Issue 8 Article on MMORPG.com
The article is an interesting read. It is nice to see that the Devs pay attention to what we say (and hopefully ignore some of the stupid stuff). There are more wings coming? I would love to see a set of mechanical wings! I have already worked out a set of macros to allow me to switch costumes when engaging Fly, so the wings only show up when flying.
For the most part, I like the vet rewards. Kilts and Trenches will be fun to add, and I have one character where I will use the Samauri Armor. I will try most of the costume options out, but the main things I am REALLY happy about are the Vet powers (Ax and Sands of Mu), teleport to base power and the respecs. They make the game more fun, without giving us something overpowered.
Overall -- Thanks Devs!
LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)

There is a video of the upcoming new wings on YouTube. I'm sure if search, you can find it.
Edit: see post above me. Beat me to it!

Wings were originally supposed to be part of the invention system, a new crafting system that was originally going to be in Issue 8, but got so big that it was pushed into its own issue (Issue 9).

I certainly hope there is more the I9 then just "a new crafting system" or that system better be something unbelievably fantastic.
Thanks for the link. I actually had seen this before, but did not realize that it was the actual wings that they are working on. The little ones, Bat and Cherub, look kind of wierd.
No mechanical wings, though. We need those for Tech characters (and Natural?). Even Icarus wings would not move like the ones already available. They would be stiffer. I don't want to sound ungrateful for the ones we have, though. They are lots of fun.

I have several non-flying characters who will be ALL ABOUT those little gimpy wings. They're just so CUTE!

Here is what is currently confirmed for I9. I suspect there will be a good bit more than just the Invention System. The IS was originally supposed to be in I8, but moved to I9. Unless putting it in I9 bumped out something else, that means that there was a whole issue worth of other stuff planned for I9 before the IS ever became a part of it.

I think the fact that inventions was planned for I8, not to mention a certain paid expansions that was canceled, Manticore's revealing that the 5th column would return this year, mayhem missions being shoved into I7 at the last moment, and a host of other such reasons that the Devs don't get us exact information are good enough reasons not to expect those "confirmed" items to miss the issue. And let's not start of the specular, one-wonder addition of I4!

Finally, for our most veteran players who have been playing City of Heroes since its launch in April of 2004, we just had to offer pets. For our 36 month reward this coming April, players will be able to select from five non-combat pets; a small Demon, a renegade Clockwork, a docile Red Cap, a domesticated Rikti Monkey, and a refurbished Robot. It will be fun to see which pets are most popular with the players.
[/ QUOTE ]
All of these pets skew to the 'evil' side of the game. So I'd think the bias in that will undermine the 'fun' of tracking the pet population. I'm not really interested in any of them for my hero, but I guess the clockwork is the lesser of them all.
I'm surprised there weren't any 'cute' style pets like on some female costume shoulders (although I could see the devs insisting that any such pet had to reuse an existing model for resource reasons). It would be no popularity contest had a simple kitten and/or puppy been added as a pet choice.
If I were allowed to pick any existing character model in the game for my pet, I might pick a miniature light-form kheldian. Or maybe a hamidon bud (would be nice to see how one animates its globbiness at a normal frame rate for once). Or maybe a toy sky skiff.

Yeah... that is true, I suppose. Can't think of too many hero groups that have small beast or robots in them though...
A chibi-Citadel?

Well, I4 did add the missing Kheldian story arcs. That was about the only thing I enjoyed about it though.
I like the article. Its nice to get some insight into the dev thinking behind systems like this.
Heroes
Dysmal
Lumynous
Sam Steele
Pluck
Wile
Slagheap
Pressure Wave
Rhiannon Bel
Verified
Stellaric
Syd Mallorn
Villains
Jotunheim Skald
Saer Maen
Jen Corbae
Illuminance
Venator Arawn
Taiga Dryad
Tarranos
I have to say, after testing the pets out in the Training Room, I was more than a little nonplussed. I can't see any of my characters actually claiming this reward... I'm hoping that more will be included in the crafting system of I9. I, too, would be more interested in such things as a shoulder panda got to wander around behind you.
My empath wants to be able to call a Tree of Life.
Other ideas that'd be neat... A fire imp, miniature versions of other controller pets, DE Swarms and the like.
Overall, the article was an interesting read, and it's always good to see what the devs are thinking. Information is more precious than gold.

Eh... the one thing they really need to add to those pets is the /petsay command.
What good is a mini-mechman if I can't make him dance?!
I am still hoping for a civilian "pet," so I can have my own Snapper Carr!

Awww come on and admit it! You want a hero pet that's a cute little mini-States.
Will we be able to make these vet-pets talk and emote?

o.o I have to wonder about some of the base items though.. rather, the info on them is all wrong ^^;; The CoT weapons are 2 cot items and a weapon that no cot in the game uses (the divining rod, or its recolor, the backwand) and the longbow weapon...
O.O there are NO LONGBOW who use it, at all, I went though paragonwiki's entire listing when I was making the vet rewards sections and not even the special hero attaches use it. Its a wyvern weapon ^^;;
>.> there are several other things like this, but it just kinda made me wonder if there's anyone who checks these things.
^^ oh, that and why are all the vet items made for tech bases and none of mystic? everyone loves nice wooden dispay cases after all.

For the record, I'd like to have a 'pet' photographer/reporter, following my hero around:
"So tell me, Great Briton, my readers want to know if it hurts when the Rikti slice you like that"
"Will you bugger off! I'm in the middle of something here!"

That's from a guy that delved into the data files: those may not be all the wings, and some may not make it in.
I want Fairy Wings so I can make an evil Tinkerbell type character...hahahahaha..
