Are Veterans Getting Penalized for CoV/Hero Gear?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
I think it's a fair bet that most people haven't been paying for a subscription for months/years without ever playing.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, I paid for mine and my wife's CoH/CoV accounts during the 2 months or so we pretty much played WoW exclusively. She didn't log in at all, and I only logged in sporadically, mostly to go afk in PvP zones and get the time badges there (and I've got screenshots of such lovely language directed towards me for "griefing" in Siren's, but that's another story...).
I just couldn't bring myself to cancel the subscriptions, even though I wasn't getting anything out of it. Some will say that's silly, but deep down I don't think I could leave the game behind voluntarily. And I believe in this game and the Dev team enough I guess I think they deserve my money. I guess that makes me... loyal?
And those 2 months that I wasn't really playing will come in handy when Veterans Rewards start coming out, won't they?
[/ QUOTE ]
I almost did the same. My playtime took a nosedive when I got WoW and I did leave the account running for months and I finally cancelled it back in January. I resubscribed last month -I'm kinda WoW burnt out- and I've revisited my old (defender) friends.
Since beta doesn't count, subscribed time stars when the game debuted, no? Around may 8? 13? 15?. So, I have 1 year and 9 months of subscribed time.
No, I don't get the 2 year stuff, but hey, 21 months is pretty good.

The reason you are seeing it in the first place is because of Auto Assault. They calculate their rewards based on paid time.
However - we will be basing ours on played time (beta doesn't count tho yo).
[/ QUOTE ]
Let me get this straight...
So, if a Friend and I both had our own accounts since CoH Day 1, never lapsed on a renewal, always had an active account...
I've played... 5000 hours, he's played 1000 (arbitrary numbers), but we've paid for the same amount of time... I would receive more Vet rewards than him?
[/ QUOTE ]
Wow, people are dense... Played time = time subscribed, i.e. time when you have been able to play. Not your hours played.
Geez.
[/ QUOTE ]
QFT. It's really funny to me how many ways people can misinterpret perfectly clear language just so they can get themselves all in a tizzy.
[/ QUOTE ]
QFE of jackassery.
I asked for a clarification, as did many others.
CuppaJo said paid time versus played time. Right now I am at work. I am currently paying for City of Heroes, since I paid my $15 this past 28th, and is good until the upcoming 28th. But am i playing now? No, I am at work.
In the past, I realize Cuppa has said things such as the 3 months = Trenchcoats, but things change, especially in this game.
Try to act like this forum is just a bunch of people gathered in a room, talking over some things. I hope the next time you're in a board room and someone asks for clarification you don't tell them they're an idiot for not immediately grasping the concept.
Pretend like you don't have your internet anonymity to say whatever that pent up child inside wants.
[/ QUOTE ]
LOL. Look, you've been around for awhile, and I'm sure you were in CoV Beta. We got into CoV Beta based on "paid and played" time or "subscribed time." I just thought Cuppa's statements, both in her PM to me and in her original post here, spoke of the very same system for veteran's rewards. Plus, the fact that Cuppa in her original post said it would include any free time given by CoH/CoV/Hero Gear purchase would imply that it's NOT in-game time.
Anyway, she has since clarified her statements even further, so hopefully that will end all confusion. I doubt it, but there's always hope.
Also...
I didn't call you an idiot. Spacenut said you were dense, not me. And I don't even agree with that, for the record.
[/ QUOTE ]
You PM'd her... Why? Perhaps to ask for a clarification of something?
Yes, I have been around for a while. And I play a lot too. No matter which way they decided to do the Verteran Rewards, I would more than likely receive the maximum allotted.
But, I asked anyway. Why? Because I knew it would be a point of contention, because it was not clear. CuppaJo further clarified, while I was making my post.
I read the entire thread to the point that I asked for clarification. CuppaJo felt the need to clarify, she must have re-read and perhaps found issue with it.
It's true, it would have been more appropriate to quote the original neanderthal.
Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.

[/ QUOTE ]
No. I PM'd her about this a week or two ago, and she responded that day. I posted her PM to me in one of the first few pages of this thread, before she made her first post here.
All right, to sum up:
The reward time is based on time spent when you have legal access to the game. This means free months plus months you paid for. In my case, the system says 13 months but I actually have 15 (as I have free months from CoH and CoV, but no hero kit yet). The ten or so months I did not have an active account in between my first playthrough and my current playthrough do not count, but the two months prior do count.
That said, is there a confirmed list of rewards yet, or is that coming later?

No. We do know (per Positron's w00t radio interview, as well as probably other sources) that trenchcoats will be the first reward, available for 3 months of "service." Positron has mentioned other costume pieces, base items, and free respecs as possible other rewards, as well as something "really cool" for the 3-year mark. But other than trenchcoats, there hasn't been anything concrete mentioned.
Wow. I could do without the angry bits, but I'm really flattered that y'all discussed my little quandry! Thanks, Cuppa, for clarifying things, too. *goes off to get thread bronzed* I made the Dev's Digest! And Cuppa posted! Twice! *swoons*

Just hoping those of us who went from US to EU accounts get our time moved over.

I started May 10, 2004 (dang... so close) Does this mean I'll get my rewards 12 days after the others or a month later? (God, I hope that didn't come across as bragging or anything...)
[edit- huh, says I reged may 4. will THAT count??]
I mean, there's enough of us out there that there's been quite a number of discrepencies noted. When should we worry about this. When Vet rewards are going live? Again, I'm not trolling or anything--but the issue is definitely worth thinking about.

True. Subscribed time would be a better term.

To get totally paranoid and throw a wrench into this ....
Does Subscribed time include time your billing renewal was discontinued, even though you were paid up? I think I already asked this like a month ago but again I get paranoid.
What happened with me was, COV was coming out, I was jazzed, I paid for a year in full in advance on both of my accounts. THEN they announced ED. I tried it, hated it, deleted all my characters and quickly discontinued my billing cycle. I didnt ask for a refund, I just considered the money lost. I was still paid up the whole year.
So, my account was "closed" but I could still get the client, log in, and play (though I didnt for a very long stretch of that year). HOWEVER, I was considered an unsubscribe customer, at least by the forums. Since I had cancelled my billing renewal but was still paid up, I couldnt post on the forums, but I could play the game (but generally didnt).
Then right before my accounts were to expire I renewed my billing ... I got back into the game. Even then, I had to contact customer support to get them to lift my inability to post.
So, I'm asking .... if my account was "closed" from the perspective that I had discontinued my billing renewal, BUT I was still paid up, does that time count for me?
Now, according to my Game Account details, my main account shows that I've paid for 3 years, 0 months on one account and 2 years 0 months on the other (and the second account I didnt get until a year later). So everything LOOKS fine .... but I know that is simply paid time, which is not really the same as subscribed time.
And yes I did read the whole thread.
Thanks,
Lewis

You should get credit for the time you had your account cancelled, but didn't have it inactive.

I would say so. Now, I really doubt that future time counts. Like if someone subscribed today and somehow paid for 3 years up front, they wouldn't get all the veteran's rewards up to 3 years.
I think it's "paid and played," just like CoV Beta was determined, where the term "paid" includes the free months from purchases and upgrades and "played" just means subsribed time up until the current date.

Also - there is a bug with game time card usage back around launch that may make your paid time seem smaller if you used a GTC then. That bug will be worked out before vet rewards kick off.

If your really worried and the timecard is why your account is off, you can go ahead and contact support. They fixed mine with pretty much no hassle at all. I went from 10 months (wrong) to 1 year, 10 months (right since he 3 free months aren't showing) after a total of 3 emails.
This may have been asked and answered already, and I'm sorry if I'm asking it again but what if you cancelled your account at some point and then restarted it? Do the Veteran Rewards factor in both account periods or just the last one? I ask because I had cancelled my account at one point (for about 10 seconds) just to change the credit card info - will I only get credit for the time after my second activation or for both?

Given the information we have so far, all indications are that it will be "paid and played" time or all months that you've paid for excluding future months (like, if you pay for a year in advance, I *think* you won't get credit for future paid months until that time comes to pass). The veteran's rewards will, again, from information we have at the moment, use the same sort of calculation that determined whether you got into CoV Beta.
In other words, all subscribed months will count; it doesn't matter if they're continous or not.

But, it's worked so well for us in the past! We wouldn't know what to do if we didn't get a frothy way ahead of time!
Consider the amount of mostly intelligent discussion this has generated...I wouldn't say I was entirely batty.

You weren't batty at all. You just asked a valid question, and until they put "subscribed time" into the account info there will be people worried about it. Granted, the same question has popped up in various other threads over the last couple weeks, but you managed to attract CuppaJo to your thread!
