1. I get the same message with Chrome, but what worries me is that I renewed my Invention License, purchased Pop Dance yesterday and Robot Dance today.

Invention License did not get renewed, but it ate my points. Pop Dance went through without a hitch. Robot Dance did not go through. I wrote a petition and got a message from a GM saying they're looking into it.

I tried playing today with SO's, but the game suddenly became boring as hell, with no extra resistances whatsoever. If this isn't fixed by the weekend, I'm checking out of CoH much earlier.

Visions of influence danced in my mind. I toyed with the idea of manufacturing it or selling the recipe, thinking about the cool stuff I could buy...

...when Virtue crashed. "No big deal," I thought. "I'll dust off my Guardian folks and play until it goes back up."

About an hour later, I was back in. I readied my W transporter, thinking about the salvage I'd need when I looked at the recipe page.

No purple.

Crap.
3. My Invention license expired today, so I renewed it (for the third and final time) and it just won't engage. I purchased it and the Pop Dance emote after the license. I logged, relogged, turned off the computer...nothing.

I can dance like Michael Jackson, and I'm as effective as he was in combat. I had to go to SO's again.

SO's!

SOB's.

Crashing hard

It was a hardware issue, folks. Even when I reinstalled everything and the new drivers I kept crashing without logging into the game. My booting up screen continued to deteriorate until it had artifacts before BIOS even showed up. I swapped my NX8800 GT for a GeForce 550 and all is well again.

Thanks for the help anyway. Got me to slim out my programs and get a good alternative to Adobe.

Crashing hard

I think my problems started when I allowed the latest Adobe update to go through. Damn.
Punkbuster is from my Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory days. Man, haven't played it in ages.
And I didn't know all that crap was running along. No wonder the system collapsed. Oh, well, backup is about to be ready. Once again, thanks for your help, folks.

Crashing hard

Thanks for the help, folks. I'll back-up the info and I'll format the disk and have a clean reinstallation of the basics. I used to play in this rig unitl 2010 but then I let the rest of the family have a go at it and I'm sure they weren't too discriminating as to what they installed.

I'll give it a go and see if I can get back into the game.

Crashing hard

Hi.
I've been playing no problem until today. I opened the game and the game locked up and froze on the character select screen after five minutes of browsing. Sounds looped and the image had tiny wrinkles. I rebooted and got the same problem maybe a minute in. I thought it would be the settings, so I got them busted down to default. It worked fine for a minute or two and then it locked up. I'm trying to run CoH Helper, but it I've had to reboot the system and I can't get past the "loading system info" screen.

I'm gonna keep trying, but in the meantime here's the HijackThis info:

8. Lots of love! Rewards for the faithful!

Devs, I'm here for the duration.
9. [ QUOTE ]
Posi TF isn't as great as others but it's also not a 400 lb rotting corpse left out in the streets of South Carolina during July.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, it is.

A lump of festering corruption and bile that greets newbies with large signs that read "ABANDON HOPE, ALL YE WHO ENTER."

Fix it.
10. A lot of the soft-spawning and stealthing can be solved with...

...guards that can see through stealth...
...doors that need to be opened by keys, and keys being in the hands of a couple of rather large spawns...
...mobs that keep running after you once they spotted you and they bring in friends.

I mean, stealth is good and all, but it's hardly unsurmountable.
11. This game was very forgiving on players. WoW has fixed spawn rates, fixed mobs and *shudder* respawning mobs. Sometimes you could not finish the damned raid/dungeon.

CoH had the ability to reduce the number of spawns to the number of players present. I did a lot of Task Forces and most of them lost 2-4 players due to any number of reasons. One time we were running Manticore and Miss Liberty was bugged. We petitioned it, to no avail, and four hours later, everyone logged off. The next day I logged in, we were bumped to the next mission and I found 2 teammates at the mission, ready to take on Hopkins. We lone 3 defeated him in a glorious battle.

It looks like that won't be possible again.
12. [ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
i guess this is just a personal peeve, but i wish youd stop calling game updates 'free expansions'.

every pay to play online game updates and expands there game as it progresses through patches, these are not some unique 'free expansions' we are getting, they are simply patches and updates to the game just like every other paid mmo you can subscribe to.

i guess its just semantics, but calling them 'free expansions' makes me feel like you think you are talking to idiots who dont realize every single paid mmo has the exact same thing, but they just call them patches.

[/ QUOTE ]

Oh really? Was The Burning Crusade given free to WoW players? Waht about Wrath of the Lich King? Will it be free?

What about Guild Wars? No subscription cost, but all of its expansions have been by cost.

Don't get me wrong, I consider my monthly fee part of the deal in getting me the new issues for this game, and if those issues stopped, so would my monthly sub.

But we aren't being charged on top of our monthly fee for game updates.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes we were. City of Villains content wasn't free.

WoW has offered free dungeons and new content for years: Maraudon, Dire Maul, outdoor raid bosses, Gurubashi arena, Battlegrounds, Blackwing Lair, Zul Gurub, Arathi Basin, Ahn'Qiraj, Naxxramas, among tons of other stuff.
13. I love the smooth XP thing and more Double XP weekends.
I've said many times that the XP curve in the upper levels is insane and it is the main reason I don't seriously level up alts.

And yay to MoG changes. My DM/Reg was 25 when they nerfed IH and that killed the entire concept. It's nice to see the set it getting a tweak.

It is a positive tweak, right?
14. [ QUOTE ]

It works the other way as well; there are advantages to not having your outward appearance tied to your abilities. You don't have the problem of people rejecting you for teams because you don't have the +27 Breastplate of Gonkulation. You are judged on the caliber of your play, not on the caliber of your equipment. I can play a Mind/Emp controller, and as long as I make a positive contribution to the team, it doesn't really matter whether I have Purple Sets slotted or I chose Mass Confusion or not.

Z

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, it matters if your primaries/secondaries aren't slotted adequately. Six-slot rest, anyone? 1accx5dam? DO's in your 30's? Red SO's? One slot in your attacks, lots of slots in your fluff powers?
It's not as harsh as WoW, but if you don't slot adequately, your character is gimped.
15. I've played CoH and WoW constantly since they launched.
CoH was my first MMORPG and I loved it dearly. I kept playing even after my SG moved to WoWer pastures.

I left because of the nerfs (getting rid of multiple Dark Servants was the final straw).

I quit CoH and focused in WoW for almost 8 months until I got burnt out. After all I've done with my Holy Paladin, the first few Kara raids showed me that he is woefully undergeared for it. He's my best character and having him on a raid is a death certificate for the entire team.

Sucks.

So, I'm back in CoH.

I dusted off my D3 and the new RWZ missions are awesome. I'm slowly decking him in IO's and I'm having fun playing missions were I am not gimped and I can be an effective part of the team.
I don't like CoH's economy, mind you. Waaay too much influence needs to be paid to get salvage or enhancements. WoW had expensive items, but never, ever like those. I don't like that you have to pay a lot of influence for a recipe and a lot of influence to craft the enhancement. I don't like the steep XP curve in levels 45 to 50. I don't like the pre-stamina levels. I don't like that some days you can't find a team no matter what you do.

But I still log in whenever I get the chance. Alt-itis if really fun in this game.
16. When you could use MasterCard to pay for NCSoft stuff...
17. I remember when timed missions ended when you clicked on your contact.

I remember 3 Dark Servants. I remember when he was a surly draftee who'd fear mobs and refuse to move. I also remember he didn't last 4 minutes.
I remember when Dark Miasma was broken. When Tar Patch only slowed mobs if you placed it right at their feet.

I remember another animation for Twilight Grasp. I remember when Howling Twilight was the "...are you ready to double your debt?" button unless you loaded it with heal and end enhancements and you chased it with a Twilight Grasp.

I remember broken Task Forces (the reason why Guapo missed Positron's).

I remember 1acc 5 dam for my defender. Hell, for a time I had Moonbeam 6 slotted for damage.

I remember levelling up a DM/Reg scrapper and when I dinged to 27 the nerf to IH was already in place.

I remember using my level 40+ to buy the non-power of 10 enhancements from my high level contacts to trade with SG mates and fully slot my alts (level 12 with 15 DO's...we ruled the Hollows).

I remember when Fly had a monstruous acc penalty.
I remember herding with Hurricane and spending 10 minutes to kill grey hellions with Freezing Rain.

I remember CoT portal missions...closest thing CoH ever came to a honest-to-God Danger Room session.

I remember the first Respec trial. My Dark wasn't broken then, but I wanted to get rid of Black Hole. 2 defenders, 3 tankers and 1 blaster and we couldn't survive the last 3 waves of freaks.

I remember Positron's TF sending you to Boomtown where your level 10 couldn't go.

I remember contacts sending you to Terra Volta where you couldn't get in.

Pre-Mission slide, I remember running out of contact by level 37 and the Sewer Trial coming to my rescue.

I remember a lot.

hm....someone still owes me an apology.

I think it's a fair bet that most people haven't been paying for a subscription for months/years without ever playing.

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually, I paid for mine and my wife's CoH/CoV accounts during the 2 months or so we pretty much played WoW exclusively. She didn't log in at all, and I only logged in sporadically, mostly to go afk in PvP zones and get the time badges there (and I've got screenshots of such lovely language directed towards me for "griefing" in Siren's, but that's another story...).

I just couldn't bring myself to cancel the subscriptions, even though I wasn't getting anything out of it. Some will say that's silly, but deep down I don't think I could leave the game behind voluntarily. And I believe in this game and the Dev team enough I guess I think they deserve my money. I guess that makes me... loyal?

And those 2 months that I wasn't really playing will come in handy when Veterans Rewards start coming out, won't they?

[/ QUOTE ]

I almost did the same. My playtime took a nosedive when I got WoW and I did leave the account running for months and I finally cancelled it back in January. I resubscribed last month -I'm kinda WoW burnt out- and I've revisited my old (defender) friends.

Since beta doesn't count, subscribed time stars when the game debuted, no? Around may 8? 13? 15?. So, I have 1 year and 9 months of subscribed time.

No, I don't get the 2 year stuff, but hey, 21 months is pretty good.
20. Dunno if it has been posted before, but when the Hollows debuted, missions had two bugs:
-part of the map was missing, so you could jump in, fall a loooooong way down and hit the ground to 99.99% HP damage. You had to be recalled out of there or type /stuck to get back to the elevators.

-if you had a full team, mobs were plentiful. One map had 15-20 mobs beneath some staircase. You would not see them when you approached the stairs (nor could you hit them, because even if you targetted them, you were out of LoS). They could target you and as soon as you got close, the whole spawn would alpha hit your entire team, causing instant wipes.

YESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYES!

Well said.

Looks like come issue 5 I'll remove my "No CoT Missions" from my kin/psy.

XP and I5

Love it.
I've been levelling up alts these past weeks and my Storm/Elec defender must have faceplanted 4 times against one eidolon boss. He was level 8 and underpowered as they come, even with the necessary training enhancements.

It's like, how can you survive when you miss 8 out of 10 attacks and get hit for 30-40 damage 5 or 6 times in a row?

I say yes to no debt until level 10 and half XP debt on door missions. Well done.
23. Bridger, eh? Any relation to the master british criminal from the movie "The Italian Job", the one with Michael Caine?

Anyway, welcome aboard!

That's great but...

If all my toggles drop it's not going to make much difference, could we get a cooldown period before toggles start dropping when mezzed? Short moment when, by using one of these inspirations, we could actually save ourselves?

[/ QUOTE ]

I'll second this.

Not so much a problem for the SR scrapper with perma-PB, but my dark/dark's main debuff - you know, the big accuracy/damage debuff that's her contribution to team defense - drops & starts its recharge count when I'm stunned/mezzed/etc. So while this will let me get out of the status effect, my teammates are staggering around with little to no defense until the frelling toggle comes back up. I'd really like some sort of short (five second? ten?) immunity timer, so if you can pop this new inspiration in that time, your toggles don't drop.

[/ QUOTE ]

I disagree. There has to be a penalty for being overcome. If you didn't use a discipline inspiration or if you got effects stacked, this new type bails you out. You still have other powers to use, like Twilight Grasp for heals, tentacles for rooting, and depending on your level, Torrent to push away or another pet to throw. Not to mention your own blasts.

If this insiprations get you back at 100% with your toggles, they are *too* powerful. If they get you out of the mezz, they work just fine. In about 10 seconds you can be back on top of things.

Wouldn't that be fair?

Villains don't have the heart and determination to fight through being stunned - heroes do...

Atleast that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it...

BTW - GREAT IDEA... I can't tell you how many times I've been stunned and tried to use the Discpline inspiration, hoping to be unstunned...
