Oh yeah, like we'd ever have anything to do with a setting where people go from place to place by means of circular portals with glowing phenomena in the center of...er...um.
Move along, citizens. Nothing to see here...
I hope they will both be leading the way, they're both great devs, with things I personally like, and things I personally don't like.
Jack (States) has always been great about balance and the overall image of the game being comic-book themed. His vision seemed to be to make this a game that is simple and fun for casual gamers, but challenging for the hardcore; 'easy to learn, difficult to master'. His bad points were that he sometimes chose wrong or misleading words (unintentionally) when adressing the playerbase, making many people opposed to his infamous 'vision'. I don't really see Jack as responsible for the nerf-fest in the first year of the game; as all young MMO's need a few bugs to work out, this game came from a (no-offense) no-name company that had never made a game, let alone an RPG.. and the result was an amazing product that rivals those of fat-cat companies like Blizzard.
Matt (Posi) is an awesome developer because he seems to be more into the badge and unique elements that make the game colorful. Though this is only an assumption he worked on these upcoming projects, I believe this will be seen in the upcoming 'Veteran Reward System" and "Legends System". The only problem I see as of late with Matt hoisting the rangs is that Cryptic seems more inclined to turn Cities into a loot-based game (as observed in interviews), which segregates players into 'haves and have-nots' (A quote States used previously) which may ruin the uniqueness of the Cities universe.
That being said, and almost entirely off-topic, the bottom line is that I think Jack and Matt together would make a great team if they continue to balance-out their development traits! Some of us fear that States will leave or become less-involved since he does now have a the young Statesboy to raise
Who knows, maybe yesterday on Father's Day he crawled to Rogue Islands and innocently pulled off Recluse's head as a trophy for his papa.
On-topic to this thread: Glad you didn't leave States! We'd all feel a little guilty about those ongoing nerf-bat jokes last year
I'm still one of the few who thought the nerfs were a good thing >.> In I5 especially (though I admit - and this was stupid of me; but I admit it - I griped loudly about the Regen nerf in I5 until I tried it out.) But anyways, I think CoX plays better today than before frankly. <-- got easily annoyed with people herding entire maps.
I generally agree that both devs are awesome in their own respects too - though I'm not sure I think Posi will do anything 'loot'like.
I *am* slightly worried about him wanting to focus the story a bit more...it could be excellent; but I'm worried it'll narrow character concepts. Just the same - I'll take a wait and see approach, because like I said, it *could* be quite good.
I've never disagreed with ANY nerfs other than the first form of Travel Supression (-acc for all travel powers), but I think the community agreed with that as a whole.
And I also agree, I will just have to wait to see what's in store. As of late there have been things that bummed me out (Shield Tankers scrapped from whiteboard, etc.), but on the flip side there are some awesome things to look forward to like the Veteran Reward System and server transfers.

Yeah.. looking back it makes a lot more sense now than it did then. The game was seriously out of whack. The differences in relative player power could get insane.. and some of the things we were doing were crazy. Jack and the gang had to choose a relative level at which to set the game. He made a choice in order to preserve the future of the game. I can live with that choice, and anyone still playing is obviously still enjoying themselves despite all their kicking and screaming.
We can argue with the specifics all we want, but the game is a better place all around.

Except for The Hollows... I can never forgive him for that.
If you look at the Statesman post above, Jack/States just promoted himself to "Creative Director". That means he can now tell his Lead Developer, "wouldn't it be cool if it could do this?" ...and the hard part is the development team's problem now.

I don't know about any subliminal messages -- but I could really go for a tall, ice, cold Bud Light right about now.
Also, a brand-new Escalade.
Be right back.

I'll ask Jack to get right on that for you.

...Almost missed the connection there.
I kinda liked the nerfs too... except the LEVEL with the agro/aoe limits... 12 is too smal... 24 or 32 is better.
By the catapillars hooka you WILL smile!
I was pretty pissed about it before, but I gotta admit, the controller changes were okay. I like the blastroller feel.
The devs really do know what they're doing (most of the time). Its probably for the best when the player base gets ignored on balance issues.

No, it's not.
Well, not ignore, but they've gotta do investigations of their own instead of just caving in and making a change like SOE does.
Anyone as narcissistic as Statesmen needs to have no authority anyway.
