Skulls Villain Backgrounder
[ QUOTE ]
Can someone clue me in on the "Kill skuls" reference? I've been playing CoH since the initial release, but apparently I missed this bit.
[/ QUOTE ]
It was someone sharing their experience with a pickup group. Random invites from an individual who had a "Defeat 10 Skulls" mission, would pop that mission up, invite someone, say "Go. Hunt. Kill Skuls." and sit there waiting for them to do it.
I wonder if the actual post has been archived.
Thanks Strix. By the way, your avatar is creepy as heck. It makes me want to go out and buy a handgun.
I do not know if avatars can get much creepier then that HolyEvilAoD, yaiks!
<.< ?!?I've always heard that it was a young kid on the forums who was complaining about ppl arguing on the nerfs.. he told the flame war-ers that as what they should be doing, instead of arguing about why they shouldn't be nerfed

Marrowrott is not ammused. His vengance on heroes for the death of his brothers will come swiftly as he gains more power and will one day be the skull that kills you.
/Great work AS, loved it. Wish to see more in game stories around my beloved skulls.

Not exactly.
The original story was of a guy who joined a pickup group to find a Defeat 10 Skulls mission running, and said something along the lines of 'hi, what are we doing?' The only reply he got was 'kill skuls'.
Another team member was added, and got the same 'kill skuls' message. The team leader was seen to be off to one side of the map, motionless. The members began to defeat Skulls. The team leader did nothing at all. He continued to do nothing. The members decided to see what was going on.
The hero who uttered this immortal epithet, when tracked down, was found to be auto-running into a wall.
The 'Go. Hunt.' part was actually from a different taciturn genius, said to a team during a Defeat 10 Somethings mission. It was, apparently, his idea of atmospheric roleplaying - a sort of vampiric command to be issued with a dramatic sweep of the arm, one assumes. Somewhere along the way, these two phrases merged into one, and became the immortal 'Go. Hunt. Kill Skuls.'
EDIT: Not sure if Spoiler tags are needed for less than level 5 content, but I'm mentioning them to be on the safe side
That may actually reference a couple of missions. If your hero has the right origion and starts in Atlas he or she my get a patrol mission. If you keep your eyes peeled during it there's actually a skull spawn in Atlas for that patrol.
It's not an ambush but a placed spawn. If you can catch the locator text it's a group that's supposed to be nearly forcing 'Dyne on a couple of Civvies. That, and the mission that sends you to a 'Hellion' lair that's actually manned by Skulls, also in Atlas.

Q: How do you wreck an Abrams?
A: You crash into another one.

Out of curiosity, which contact gives this arc?

Billy Heck in Port Oakes.
You get a rather nifty temp power after fighting him too.
Okay, Marrowsnap I know, as that's the Bone Daddy on the first mission for the Bonefire arc. But who is Marrow Drinker?
The final mission in that arc has Battallion (Hellions) and Bonebreaker (Skuls) for bosses.
And it'd be nice if the NPC text for the lowbie missions made reference to the Marrow boys. That way, when we meet Marrowsnap at the beginning of Bonefire, we can say "Hey, it's him!". Might want to give him a bit of a graphics re-do, so he looks unique.

One thing I can't understand is why the Skulls have such a rad background and yet they're so lame in-game.
I mean, c'mon. They have powers over unlife and death and all that crap, and yet all most of them do is sit around in a park all day and hit people with baseball bats and dinky guns.
Also, if EVERY skull has a real skull mask, that means one guy's died for every single skull out there. Which is just, well, silly considering their NUMBERS.

The Skulls are one of the many street gangs that operate in Paragon City. They are death cult , of sorts, who seek personal glory and power through death, no matter whose.[/url]

Hmm, maybe it's bad grammar on my part, but shouldn't that be "They are a death cult, ..."
Anyway, great work Artic!
Loved reading it

And don't forget to join the fight for our City! http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index....ard,134.0.html
Pfft, just blame it on corrupt officials constantly letting the same Skulls off the hook
PS: And never think about "realistic" numbers when playing a MMO, if there were any, all our heroes would do all day would be sitting around chatting and drinking (or possibly saving kittens from trees)... and then when a lone gangmember shows up two dozen heroes will pounce on him at once

I know a lot of other people have already said it but...
__________ Wow!! __________
I really loved this background, I read it while daily maintenance was going on, and was really surprised at how much I enjoyed reading it. Including the "Top Secret" section on how they burned down their own parents house to kill the Shadows
I'll read these religiously now, I'm that impressed

Very nice indeed. Good on improving their creepiness level with the little bit about the skull masks. And nice to see the player grown mythos having an impact.
Oh and for SokMunki (btw, I've always loved the "Skulls" avatar there), I think the in game reasoning for the dropped 'L' and the 'Go. Hunt.' both, was the previous line: "Some stories describe him as a feral hero, barely able to communicate. "
Hard to describe bad spelling of chat that's supposed to be spoken, but I think a good attempt. Just wouldn't be the same if they corrected it to "Skulls".

I also like that the skull masks are real. That's not right and is deserving of another kick to the head.
Really a top notch background this time around.
Finallllllllllllllllly info on the skulls!
Hmmm. I don't know about you, but from what I've heard (back when CoH had just been released) was that "Go. Hunt. Kill Skuls" was actually a part of a mission description back in the CoH Beta?
Maybe I'm mistaken though.

Nope. Behold the (partial, truncated) origins of that ubiquitous phrase.
I heart this story so much Im going to make a Skull themed villain. Not sure what the name will be though, Marrowsomething. >_<
So hears what his Bio might be, sadly though I thinks its to big to fit in the Rouge Isle I.D. card
Daniel Jones was recruited into the Skulls at the of 14, because he had powers to tap into the nether world, by Marrow Snap himself. As he grew older his powers greatly increased. So much so the Petrovic brothers feared he might become more powerful then them. Through some ties and connections they managed to reduce Daniel's powers signifecently. This happend wile he was commanding men at a battle against the Hellions. The Paragon police raided the warehouse, and Daniel wad captured. Wile in Zigurt he found out he still had powers, and a new one. The power to raise and control the dead. He also found out why he was weakend, and vowed to kill the Petrovic's and take control of the Skulls.
Im still thinking on what I can add and such, also I have a longer backgrounder on him, I might put it on a web page or something and put that site in the bio.
Any way, I hope you peeps enjoy my little story.
Excellent..Go. Write. Describe mor badguys.
