Oil Slick is either fixed....or horribly bugged...
I'm at level 34 right now, and have had Oil Slick since, what, 26? I've spent a good deal of those levels in debt and playing around in story arcs, so I've spent way too much time with Oil Slick.
I don't think your experience is out of the ordinary, Mieux. It -might- have something to do with teaming, I'm not certain, but Oil Slick lights for me about 90% of the time. And I'm not exaggerating. Not lighting up is definitely the exception rather than the norm.
That said, Archery must have one of the worst synergies with Trick Arrow, aside from Dark and Psy. Elec, Energy, Rad and Sonic (my secondary) all have AoEs that can light the slick.

[/ QUOTE ] I don't know. But not too long ago...I was using OS on a team and I lit it a small fraction of the time...like 25%. And the way people have been criticizing it not lighting, I thought that was normal.

The reason it lights is because fire or energy attacks set it alight. The reason why Arrows kills the slick is because the lethal part kills the slick, and not the fire part. Therefore, a pure energy attack such as Ball Lightning will 100% light the slick.
IIRC, healing aura does it too. =P
Nope, lethal damage does NOTHING to Oil Slick. THe only reason it doesn't light is that there is a percentage chance for it not to ignite, plain and simple.
Now, if you really wanna do a fix for TA/A defenders... Make Exploding Arrow do Smashing/Fire instead of Smashing/Lethal damage. The effect is a giant fireball so it would make sense and would give a better synergy to the two sets.
T_Cat, Oil Slick is immune to lethal and smashing damage. I've smacked it a good thirty or fourty times with a Claws/ scrapper to test.
It just happens to fail a lot.
This'll be a nice fix, if that's no longer the case. Of course, Mieux might have just gotten lucky...
I have had nights where it never failed to light. Then I have had PvP experiences where it just laughed at me.
Seems like it has the same streaky attitude that accuracy does sometimes.
My two cents, lvl 31 TA defender here. I cannot seem to EVER light oil slick outside. Inside I do OK. Others seem to fair better. And missing and oil slick with a flaming arrow. OMG, that should be child's play to what my /archery does all the time.
Any source of Energy/Fire damage can light it. Maybe the critters you were fighting hit it with an AoE?
We understand what lit it - Mieux brings up both his own Blazing Arrow and an allies' Ball Lightning. It's just surprising for the report of it working all the time that's impressive.
Although my personal experience with the set is limited, both from seeing teammates and from other reports, I'm used to Oil Slick having a significant failure rate, where the slick takes fire/energy damage, dies, but doesn't light. Mieux claims 11/11 lights in a row, better odds than an SG member of mine has ever gotten.

Uhm, I guess lethal damage makes sense if we take shrapnel into account, and explosions surely cause smashing damage, but the lack of fire damage in this equation is boggling me.

Btw, OS is bugged in Pocket D. When I put it down, it shows up as a blue invalid target. I tried to get a villian to attack it but they never go aroudn to doing it before the mission ended.
The majority of times it lit, I lit it with BA. As a solo toon, BA is not 100% reliable. I've also been in a duo with an En blaster and had it not light. THe other night with a /Rad defender, it lit 100% of the time when they atttacked it...but it only happened like 4 times in a row.
All of which leaves me largely confused on the reliability of lighting OS based on team members and method.

Begining to see why I think Oil Slick should light itself after a set period of time? Just think if you were a TA/Psi defender who doesn't read the forums.

This have something to do with the ally/foe coding?

I think this is part of the problem right here. It doesn't do fire damage? Explosives and exploding Steel Canyon buildings do fire/smashing. That just doesn't make any sense.

As of last night, my Robots/TA mastermind couldn't light Oil Slick *at all* with my Pulse Rifle <;.;> I was very sad; the only way for me to get it lit is to fire it after my bots start their AOE volleying. Which works; but I"d like to be able to light it myself.

Yeah, I had this problem, too. Sent a /bug for it. And I also have the "outside" problem, although that never actually occurred to me.

OSA rarely works on open maps for me. I'll go test it and report back in an edit...... My TA/Archer is on the Hospital Rez Pad waiting for possible fixes to TA even as I write this!
Edit: Nope, not fixed. 5 for 15, could not kill any same level Boss. 3 trips to Hospital.

I would agree that it is a very good point. The thread seemed very end of 2008 to me.
Why is the issue still here after two years? My only guess is that there is no hope for a fix.
