Correct. For any buff/debuff power, you just need to know the scale values to then use the table to calculate the actual, in-game base buff/debuff. This scale value is almost always the same across all ATs who share a power, so if you find the value for the defender version, for example, you then can calculate the mastermind and corruptor versions.

This also applies to pool powers. The res scale of tough is 1.5, so any AT with a 0.10 Melee Res modifier gets a 1.5 * 0.10 = 0.15 = 15% smashing/lethal resistance.

This is exactly what the game engine does. A moderate damage 2.7777 attack is the baseline 1.0 upon which all damage scales are based. This applies to all levels, not just 20+; the scale values always remain the same. Now, hopefully, we can get the hero planner designers to adopt this system.

These numbers seem to disagree with the long standing assumption that blaster Aim adds 100% accuracy adjustment and 62.5% damage adjustment and that BU adds 100% damage adjustment and 62.5% accuracy adjustment.

I would venture to guess that the values for Aim and BU are switched, 8 for Aim acc and for BU dam, 5 for Aim dam and BU acc.

This would mean BU still gets 100% damage adjustment, but only 37.5% acc adjustment?

If they are disagreeing, and your numbers are correct, may I ask how you came up with them? Also are your numbers saying that if a blaster uses Aim or BU, his ranged damage and accuracy buffs will be different than his melee damage and accuracy buffs? If so, then a defender will get more out of Aim, damage and accuracy wise, with ranged attacks than a blaster will. Seems odd

I recently tested Darkest Night, because I've got a MasterMind Superteam that I'd like to fine tune. With a sample size of slightly over 7000 attacks, and taking the StreakBreaker into account, it looks like Darkest Night debuffed ToHit by 10.5% for a Mastermind. If Darkest Night is considered a Ranged attack, that means the Damage Scale is 1.4, and Defenders should be 17.5% and Controllers 14%. If it's considered a Melee attack, the Damage Scale is 1.05, and Defenders should be 13.125% and Controllers 10.5%. Looks like I'll need to find a Dark Defender to test this, as I don't have one. Anyone desperate to get these numbers?

I also tested Radiation Infection. It was 31.2% for Defenders (13,000 samples) and 25.5% for Controllers (don't have the sample data handy). It looks like that will require some more testing, because those numbers don't work out cleanly. If I had to guess, I'd say RI has a Damage Scale of 2.5, and should debuff ToHit for Defenders by 31.25% and Controllers by 25.0%. Time to test RI on my level 40 Fire/Rad Corruptor!

Something happened to your DAM and Res debuff rows. It isn't clear which is which (one is DAM and the other is DMG). Also, you're missing a Melee Debuff Dmg.

Enervating Field. Targeted AoE, Foe debuff, tested...
Controller: 22.5% Resistance debuff, 25.5% Damage debuff
Corruptor: 22.5% Resistance debuff, 25.5% Damage debuff
Defender: 30% Resistance debuff, 32.5% Damage debuff

Hmm... Something doesn't fit here. Maybe they don't use the same Damage Scale? Maybe the table is off? Or maybe my numbers are off?

Brute HP is about 80% of Tanker HP. Scrappers are about 70%.

Or are you talking about the absolutele max HP via HP buffs like Dull Pain?

The "long standing assumption" about blaster aim adding 100% accuracy was based on lack of knowledge about the AT-based modifiers. The damage values have been consistently tested to match the values I listed, which means Aim has a 5.0 damage buff scale. Build Up has been consistently tested to have an 8.0 damage buff scale, making the blaster version give a 100% damage buff. Based on these 2 scalar values, I've made the reasonable assumption that the tohit buff values correspond directly to these; meaning when the damage buff scale is 8.0, the tohit buff scale is 5.0, and vice-versa. I've not seen any testing that conclusively confirms or denies these tohit buff values, so they remain as assumptions for now.

This is intentional. There is no melee debuff dmg modifier, and I'm uncertain which is damage and which is resistance. My assumption is that DAM is resistance and DMG is damage, as all the damage-debuffing powers that I know of would seem to be classified as ranged attacks.

I understand what you're saying about scale values being consistent across all levels, but I'm not sure you understand what I'm getting at.

Specifically, when I contemplate defender builds in my brand-spanking new hero planner, I want the defender version of Air Superiority to list damage as .55, because it does 55% of the blaster Air Superiority. This is only true for levels 20+, as you have said. That is why I made that consideration.

A couple other items of note. I'm listing them in a separate post to avoid confusion.


1. From my examination of your table, I notice that from levels 1-20, the Blaster damage increase per level speeds up, and that, say, Controller damage increase per level slows down. This implies to me that somewhere in between those two extremes is a damage progression chart that shows a constant damage increase per level-up. It looks like the Tanker Melee damage progression is the closest to this medium, and I notice there isn't an AT that fits the role in the ranged damage chart.

All this is just to say that, behind the scenes, it looks as if the Tanker Melee damage progression chart is the base upon which the other AT charts are based. This by no means diminishes the monumental work you've done. It looks great! I'm just talking about behind the scenes.


2. As far as cleanliness of numbers is concerned, the lower the baseline is, the cleaner you can get the numbers to be. If, for instance, you used BI=1.1111 as the new 1, rather than BI=2.7777, then Brawl would be damage .9 and Moderate attacks would be damage 2.5. Going further, if you made BI=.1111 the new 1, then Brawl would be damage 9 and Moderate attacks would be damage 25.

Going to the extreme, of course, you could just list everyone's damage at level 20 for all attacks. I'm not entirely sure that's actually a bad idea.


3. On a purely aesthetic note, I think the melee damage table and the ranged damage table could be relabeled as exactly what they are, namely, damage done by a moderate attack by AT and level.

you want to take the most basic blaster attack value, a 2.778 bi attack on the blaster 100% brawl value scale and then adjust the number for every other attack in the game as they are relative to that attack.

right?

Some planners (such as SherkSilver's) already include the ability to calculate your actual damage, if you know your brawl value for your current level. There are still some innacuracies because of the brawl index system they use (which would be eliminated by converting to the Damage Scale sytem), but it should be a fairly easy transition for them to show your actual, in-game damage for any attack you select, as much of the core programming to do it is already in place. If anyone knows any of those programmers, please feel free to direct them to this thread.

That sounds right to me, and it is something which has been needed for a very long time, but was practically impossible to do because we didn't really have a standard by which to compare all attacks across all ATs in relation to each other.

That's the problem I've always had with the Brawl Index... it quite effectively shows you how your attacks compare with all your other attacks, but it reveals nothing about how your attacks compare with everyone else's attacks. For example, a Blaster's 2.7778 BI attack would do about 28 base damage at 20th level, but a controller, defender, or mastermind's 2.7778 BI attack would only do about 15 base damage at 20th level. It is simply not a good standard to use unless you couple it with the AT modifier, which is what should have always been done.

I don't think the typical person reading some BI number or using a hero planner realizes that when they see 2.7778 damage for an attack on their blaster and then 2.7778 damage for an attack for their defender, that those attacks do completely different damage. Why would they? It looks like they do the same damage. But the blaster's attack actually does about 53% more than the defender's.

A global damage magnitude number has been needed for a long time. Frankly, I've never cared that my defender's XYZ attack does 2.7778 times more damage than my Brawl attack does, but I would very much like to know that my Brawl attack is damage magnitude .55, the blaster's Brawl is magnitude 1.0, my XYZ attack is magnitude 1.53 and the blaster's ABC attack is magnitude 2.7. That gives me an objective standard by which to judge all of my attacks against each other, and against all the attacks of all the other ATs as well.

I'm still searching for a reliable way to find the scale values; however, based on what I've found so far, it appears unlikely that I can provide this information. I can give reliable information on the following attributes for any power in the game: click/auto/toggle; base accuracy; cone/AoE/location; max targets; radius; angle; range; activation time; recharge; time per endurance tick; endurance cost; interrupt time; target required; enhancements allowed.

I'm hoping to find a way to determine the scale values without testing, but that appears unlikely.

As to those that want a cross-AT damage value, it would make sense to take the Damage Scale and multiply it by each AT's damage modifier to create a Normalized Damage Scale. For example:

Blueeyed and I tested Hurricane last night from a Defender, and found it was a 37.5% ToHit debuff (actually 37.56% over 12,777 attacks). That means it has a Damage Scale of 3, beating even Radiation Infection. No wonder Stormies can walk through mobs. Three SOs and even con bosses have a 6% chance ToHit.

As to Darkest Night, the numbers look a little off, but probably not enough to be statistically significant. At DS 1.5, a Mastermind should debuff ToHit by 11.25%. My measured value of 10.5% over 7000 attacks is close, but not close enough to make me comfortable. Where's a Statistics major when you need one.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but will you be providing this information at some point, or is it more of an "on request" basis? I've found most of this information elsewhere, in the Hero Planner for example, but given the inaccuracy of the BI numbers in there I'm hesitent to trust it in terms of activation times, endurance costs, etc.

Also, what category would Psi's -RECHARGE debuffs be modified by? Are things like the duration of these secondary effects available? I'm guessing their Damage Scale value can only be determined by testing.

Lastly, I know (from a Dev post somewhere) that Controllers get +25% control duration. Is that just a special controller thing, or does each AT have a control duration multiplier?

Ideally, if I had unlimited free time and the desire to do so, I would give all this data for all the powers. However, that is an ENORMOUS amount of data for me to sort, format, and copy into a message board-presentable format. I'm not saying I won't eventually do it, just that it'll take quite a while if I do. I'll probably end up posting it once I have all the data organized, but for the time being, it's on more of an "on request" basis. From what I've seen in SherkSilver's hero planner, most (but not all) of the categories I listed are accurate in there, and it's the overall most accurate and complete hero planner I've seen.

-Recharge (or Slow) is a separate AT modifier that I haven't listed yet. Same with the control modifiers. If there's something specific that people want, I'll be glad to list it, though. I'll have those Slow and Mez modifiers up shortly (each type of mez has its own level 1-50 table for the 12 ATs).

TopDoc, temp powers work off a seperate and entirely different damage scale, shared by all ATs. You can test this by having two of any AT go into Sirens and use the EMP Glove temp power.
