Scappers need some help there too. Only 4 secondaries to choose from.

[/ QUOTE ]

Agree, but the issue is bigger if you are talking about your primary. Heck even masterminds are getting a thug set to bump up their set count. Even so i do think scrappers should at least get a variant of Ninjitsu

[/ QUOTE ]

However, with tankers sitting at 7 melee options and scrappers at 6, don't you think it's a bit strange to prioritize new melee sets for tankers over new melee sets for scrappers?

[/ QUOTE ]

With tankers and scrappers both sitting on over half a dozen melee sets each but only 4 armor sets apiece, I think it's a bit strange to prioritize more melee sets for either AT over more armor sets for them?

EA FOR SCRAPPERS AND TANKS.. erm.. BOTH EAs!

I'm playing Devil's Advocate for a sec:

What about the people that only have CoV? Don't you think they are elated to get new content after having a toon stalled at 40 for 4 months while their hero counterparts are strolling around at 50?

I think Abe Lincoln said it best: You can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time.

[/ QUOTE ]
That's a good trick since CoV came out 3 months ago.

It's NOT about ego, it's NOT about me bring right. It's about asking people to at least think about some of the paranoid crap they're spouting, and actually consider the possibility that the devs might have a good reason for operating the way they do.

[/ QUOTE ]

What gets me are the posters who are trying to shout people down for being disappointed in the second issue in a row over a period of 6+ months that doesn't add anything to CoH's PvE game. It's almost like some posters are telling other posters what they should care about.

"...while CoV was still under pre-release development" is the bit that I (still) think everyone's missing. Don't misunderstand, I'm not exactly thrilled that CoH isn't getting more with the new issue. I'm not terribly disappointed either since I've personally yet to exhaust the existing game... but that's a whole 'nuther issue.

I just think the "seperate developer team" quote was a specific statement addressing a specific timeframe and that people have subsequently blown it way out of proportion.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yep...my comments fall exactly into line with what you've said.

[ QUOTE ]
I think the point people are making in referring back to the "separate design teams" posts is not that they care much about the org charts at Cryptic, but that that behind-the-scenes peek into the org chart was given to us to assure us that the development of CoV was not going to stop the forward progress of CoH.

So, when we all rabble-roused that CoV was taking time away from developments promised for CoH, the devs came along and said "Not true. Look at our separate design teams. See, a whole design team just of you! So, don't worry about getting short shrift for you CoHers. All is well."

[/ QUOTE ]

I was going to make a comment about how we haven't heard anything from Lord Recluse or Captain Mako for an unusually long time, but as many of you may have already seen:

Alexa posted:

We regret that the Ask Lord Recluse portion of our "Ask A Dev" series will not have a set of final answers from Zeb Cook. Zeb is no longer at Cryptic Studios and we wish him the best in his future endeavors. The CoH/CoV community thanks Zeb for all of his hard work and support.

I don't care if there are one or a MILLION dev teams.. EA for scrappers and tanks..

or.. or.. or..

I will shed on all the servers again!

[ QUOTE ]

Could you explain the reasoning for this? Because it sounds like you're saying the CoV team is better than the CoH team. Because you surmise that they chose to put CoV ish 1 out now because CoH 7 wasn't ready yet and they didn't want to wait...

[/ QUOTE ]

Could it be that the CoV team was able to move forward on new development while the CoH team had to retrofit CoH with a lot of CoV innovations, and do it over a lot more zones than just adding two new ones?

Might that put the CoH team at a slight disadvantage?

I certainly can't answer these question definitively, and I'd wager that nobody outside Cryptic's management team can either. Speculation is pointless. We know what we're told. Blindly assigning cause to the effect is an exercise in logical fallacy.

As several have noted, I7 features content mostly for City of Villains (levels 41 to 50, in fact). This is exactly what we did for CoH. City of Heroes will receive a cool graphics upgrade, new base items (Empowerment stations!) and access to Recluses’ Victory. It’s true that CoV received more attention, but that’s mainly because we needed to fill out the levels. I had the option of releasing I7 or waiting until we could fill out the City of Heroes content. Obviously, I chose the former. New content should get out there when it’s ready. We'll be focusing equally as much as possible on each product moving into the future...

For those who have speculated that Newspaper missions are coming to City of Heroes, they aren’t…yet. That’s coming a little later in the year. I’d like to add something different to the CoH system…

[/ QUOTE ]

Please tell us about costumes Statesman . Are all costumes options coming to CoH in I7 ? Do we get back the OLD skirts too ? Please . Thats really all that it would take to make me a happy subscriber .

I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

Many have asked if we will have to wait the usual issue cycle until Issue 8 for some substantial new PVE content in CoH.

Is your expectation that such content will not come until Issue 8 and that Issue 8 will likely not come until 2-4 months after I7, or is such content further along in the queue such that we can expect to see it sooner than (march + 3 months =) July?

I wasn't talking about prioritizing melee over armor sets. I was responding to the "tankers need new sets more than anyone else." Since tankers have as many armor sets and more melee sets, it could be argued that scrappers are in more need of new stuff than tankers. This is because one or two posters went on about how tankers and apparently only tankers need new powersets.

Also, to nitpick: only tankers are sitting at over a half dozen melee sets. Scrappers are sitting at exactly a half-dozen.

With issue 7, brutes and stalkers will each have a half-dozen melee sets.

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, then, I misunderstood you.

Personally, I think Tankers and Scrappers are both hurting about equally for new powerset love. Scrappers have fewer sets overall, true, but more primary sets. I'd call that a wash.

Others will, of course, value one of those factors over another thereby feeling one AT deserves love more than the other.

Or carry on, I guess. Though it seems silly to me to get all upset over something you have no knowledge of, (though if you do have experience in such things it might be nice to point out that NONE OF US KNOW WHAT THIS COMPANY IS UP TO, so we can stop other people from taking ignorant assumption as certified fact).

[/ QUOTE ]

Bingo.

The assumptions tend to take on a life of their own and become "truth" after a while, with someone downstream believing that the origin is based on fact instead of the rants of the opinionated uninformed.

We see the effect. We cannot surmise the cause.

I do think that scrappers and tankers could use a new armor set. I think tankers could use a new melee set. I would like to see scrappers get two, though.

I mean... tanks have no role. I been waiting for something to play 41+ besides the oldschool AV missions. Your lvl 50 TFs take way too long

[/ QUOTE ]

You know i have to agree and disagree with this statement..first off yes tanks have no role..because of the people who whined and complained and scoffed. Every AT HAD a role in this game but folks wanted balance, tanks was supposed to do that..TANK they was the hulks of the game..their slow but powerful..wasnt good enough for folks, blasters was supposed to do that BLAST stuff..wasnt good enough they wanted to be like tanks and the list goes on and on. I blame it on the whiners.

Now the TFs..good lord yes they do take a long time and a time frame should be noted upon taking them like "This TF requires atLEAST 2 hours of your time" so people know ahead of time..i can remember playing on a couple TFs and had people quit in the middle cause it wasnt "fast" enough for them. They thought it was like a mission,go in and complete a task and your done.

I think they are a bit long but for good reason cause the reward is greater, they need to make em shorter and have different types of TFs.

A new armor set for both would be nice.

Scrappers could use a punching set other than dark melee.

Tankers would so look cool swinging a broadsword around.

You quote me as if you're referring to me with that comment...

...did you miss the posts I made in this thread expressing my disappointment that there wasn't a little bit more CoH content in I7?

I like to think that I can be dissatisfied with an update, offer constructive criticism to the devs, and ask for things to be improved in the near future without getting adversarial towards the devs, calling them liars, and generally going out of my way to make myself the sort of user a dev wouldn't want to discuss the future of the game with.

That's all.

Indeed..

More defensive sets AT LEAST. I mean come one. Scrappers and Tankers have had the same four defense sets since release. FOUR SETS. That isn't a whole lot of choice there. Is there any wonder I am kind of mift that we aren't getting anything?

Energy Aura at the LEAST. Eletric Armor would be nice too, and giving tanks broadsword in trade for.. oh.. SS or energy melee would be great too.

Please...?

And why would they introduce Pocket D as a neutral zone for heroes and villians before I7, instead of releasing it with I7? Perhaps there's something they're not telling us yet...

Let the speculation begin! MWAHAHAHAHAHAAH (runs down street screaming more...)

[/ QUOTE ]

#1) Your post speculates that faction changing is going to be a feature of I7
#2) If that is correct, it's exactly the kind of thing the devs like to be cute about and save for a suprise when the issue comes out
#3) If that is correct, the concerns CoH PVEers have might go away since they might be able to access the CoV PVE content with their heroes

<---ever hopeful when it comes to this dev team

I would guess they are letting us test the actual zone ahead of time. Letting us poke and prod and explore to see if we break the zone itself before they add content for us to break. Like.. zoning out into Mercy when you should have gone into Kings Row. That would be all kinds of bad. Figuring out how to kill each other on the dance floor would be bad.

Let us hope that is the reason and they already have the content ready to release with issue seven. Hopefully it doesn't fall to the wayside of "things that should have been" like the nice university campuses.

Word. Pretty buildings look nice but don't really add anything to the game. Hopefully it won't get put on the back burner.

Perhaps even cross-server transfers (alternate dimensions people! Passport badge!). All just specualtion, but one can hope & dream of the possibilities...
