Had my first taste of PvP tonight
For both beta events, I set my graphics settings to minimum (except for textures, because I hate the low and medium quality textures). I experienced very little lag - usually, it was just powers appearing recharged when the server thought they weren't (and at that, usually bean bag and not any of my other powers).

So ive loosely followed the thread and heard the opinons so I thought Id throw my unwanted opinion out there, so take it for what its worth (an opinion) nothing more..
Personally I like pvp , I grew up an athlete so competition has always been around for me. I play CoH because I think the game is fun , its entertainment to me as were all the sports I played growing up. Im not a power gamer , I dont really care if my toon can do 400% damage or 100% damage. I play the game , if the devs decide to change it I adjust and keep playing because its fun. I think the idea of testing a toon you have built against another players toon is cool. I dont have any expectations going in , only to be able to put up a good fight. Win or Lose its the competition that is exciting. Youre gonna take an asswhipping eventually whether it be by the hand of another actual person or an AV on the game.
I understand that people dont like it , what I dont understand is why there is soooooooooo much whining about it? If you dont like it dont take part. You may have to run a couple missions in the pvp zones. So run your missions and get the hell out if you dont want to hang around for a brawl.

Once again, I meant games in general. Console, PC, etc. You can't "win" most MMOs, so why would I go on about MMO victories? You made a general statement, so I replied to the general statement.

Okay,...
I thought I made it pretty clear. I play games, any and all kinds of games, for one reason only: to play. Winning and losing are equally meaningless. At that point, the game is over. I might be sad that I'm not playing, but I won't be sad that I've lost. I might be happy to start another game (or even repeat the one I just finished), but I won't be happy that I've won.
I played Magic: The Gathering for awhile. I was a constant tournament player (although decidely not a pro ) and participated in somewhere around three hundred tournaments, including a score of international ones.
I think I won somewhere around half a hundred matches in that time, and only a couple of tournaments, both minor. I'd have to log on to DCI and check.
I just enjoyed playing. I still enjoy playing. My favorite thing in life is play! I'm 44 years old and still prefer play to any other pastime imaginable. Yes, even that one. (Although making that one into play is quite fun, too. )
Winning? Losing?
What difference does that?

The only part of coh/cov pvp I have disliked is the camping in warburg.
There is no real story in the pvp zones. Heck you can repeat the same missions over and over again. There is no story arc no real thing.
You can fly through the zone on a non event day and not see a single opposing player.
Listen avatar of a kid who wanted a bb gun and whom nearly shot his eye out if you want those things such as badges in a pvp zone you gotta fess up to it. Those things are to entice people into the zone. Pvp without purpose is boring. Also name one instace of a person being griefed in the manner you described didn't happen to me.
Now being teleport foed to a police drone by a hero was very low and certaintly those drones shouldn't give debt that way. Odds are teleport foe will be changed so a hero or villian cannot drop people into mobs or drones.
They have addressed most of what people hate.
Also in Bloody Bay the villians owned the heroes. We found the heroes to be cowards who wouldn't face us.
Any person in a pvp zone who doesn't have a travel power is meat.
If you want to be safe in a pvp zone while traveling fly at the ceiling. Even superjumpers won't be able to get you.
Every hero I killed in bloody bay was alone.
And let's face it to team for pvp is a minor price to pay to get an Elite Boss as a five use summoned pet.
Or have a nuclear bomb be your temp power.

Interesting note. The whole double negative rule was arbitrarily put in around two hundred years ago. Common parlance upto, and even past that time, was that repeated negatives merely emphasized the amount of feeling the speaker had for that situation.
In fact, many languages actually require a double negative in order to make a negative statement: Je ne sais pas.
The same time period, and probably the same people, are the ones that determined that "ain't" is not a word, thus depriving us of the "am not" contraction until it was officially reaccepted as a word only recently.
Still, however, the damage has been done. Double negatives and ain't are now considered poor speech despite the fact that they are both the result of rules that were applied to the language by uptight linguists. Right around the same period during which they were trying to prevent any change from occurring in the language.
So, nowadays "I ain't coming." is proper grammar (ain't=am not) but most people will assume otherwise. As such it is inadvisable to use.
Also, the "double negative" rule is now in the language, even though originally it came about because someone applied math logic to language and ignored the repeated negative as a being form of emphasis.

Or it's completely different. It is mandatory to train and buy in order to lvl through this game, which I believe is the point of the game. To become the most powerful superhero you can be. It is NOT mandatory to have some extra exploration badges, badges showing that you killed a certain number of bad guys, or any of the helpful (but not necessary) accolades.

Back when I started this game (Aug? 2004) I heard of a SG that was comprised soley of people who never trained- Anyone else hear of them? What a horrible way to play, if true...

I play... anything but sports games. D: Sports = Not fun, for me, cause there's nothing to gain from it. The games I DO play require winning. I guess, after 18 years of gaming, it's sunk into my head that I have to win to get anywhere (which is true with the types of games I play).

I would be. All that work, lost, and no means to an end beyond failure. D: I guess if I played just to kill time, I could see that. I play games (not MMOs) to progress in story (I love stories..), which... you can't do if you lose. In MMOs, winning isn't all too important, unless there's a goal that can't be achieved by any other means.

With the decline of general game quality, I worry that I won't be able to enjoy games by the time I reach your age (no offense). >/ Ah well. The reason I kept badgering you about it all was in hopes to better understand the view.
*likes to analyze... sometimes, a bit too much*
Played M:TG recently sold my entire collection for a hella good price considering some of the cards I had.
Anyway I will say one thing. Sometimes even if your already having fun a victory or defeat can get to you.
I know more than once I survived a big fight with a sliver an literally cused in joy.

origininally when you leveled you target window ssaid you trained level so if you hadent trained in 3 levels and you were 44 you coned as 41
but they recently introduced a patch where when you level instead of your level being in white (trained) it became Blue for your current untrained level ie in the before instance you would con 44 but the 44 wiould be blue in color

Uh-oh. We better be careful. This thread could easily fall into an M:TG discussion.
For example, there was the red/white LD deck I made that wound up winning a world championship... Didn't get credit for it, naturally, but I was most certainly the inventor.
