Ok given all the M:TG players here, you may appreciate this site:
M:TG Editor
You can create your own M:TG Cards. So surprise those players at your next game by playing Statesman against them or uleashing the awesome power of the Nerf Bat. -
Well my outlook for I5 has changed from cautiously optimistic to disappointed. With these changes working 'as intended' then I'm afraid I'm going to shelve my Ice Tank.
Taking him out on the test server it has become quite readily apparent that I can no longer perform my job as a Tanker. I am in fact a sub-par Super Reflexes Scrapper with rubbish damage.
The main problems (as I see them) are:
Wet Ice give .5% Def, that's just unacceptable I'm afraid, WI is the cornerstone of the early level Ice Tank powers, it gives us our Mez Protection and enough defense so that when stacked with Frozen Armour we can actually tank stuff. We can't do that anymore.
Energy Absorbtion, 3% Bonus per target but up to 14 targets. This is a joke, with our defenses neutered the way they are we'd be lucky to survive longer than the animation time with 14 targets in range.
I was hoping that Ice Tanks would be made better, not worse, by the I5 changes but it would appear that once again we are overlooked and our concerns are ignored.
I have really enjoyed playing my Ice Tank up to now, it's been incedible fun to be a 'different' kind of Tanker and to have a different way to handling tanking but that has been removed now.
I would suggest, as I believe has been mentioned before, that you just remove the Ice armour set from the game as it is obviously not intended to played in any serious manner. -
States, just let me say thank you for taking the time to address some of our concerns and put them up a in a solid thread for us.
But (there had to be one right) I think we were looking for some actual answers here. From the testing that has been undertaken it would seem that Wet Ice is no longer providing any noticible defense bonus (please tell me this is a bug) and Energy Absrobtion is now so weak that we may as well take Tough/Weave instead (doubley please tell me this is a bug). Add onto that the fact that Permafrost is still basically useless, Icicles costs way too much end for the benefit it provides and that Hibernate does not compare well to other level 9 primary powers and well we still feel like we're getting the short end of the stick.
On top of that we're still waiting to hear if our Slow Resistance from Wet Ice is going to be fixed to is scales correctly and we're also waiting to hear is the Slow effect from Chilling Embrace is going to be fixed so it scales to higher levels correctly.
The major issue I have is that as things stand on the test server my Ice tanker can barely handle 4-6 opponents without death. For a tanker this is terrible, I know you want to stop herding but surely we should at least be able to handle bad guys into double figures.
So thanks for the changes and the little bit on info, but we really were looking for some more detailed response and some feedback on what is going to be done to address the glaring problems with our powerset. -

you people need to drop this, this is to keep NON-PvP players happy, and for you PvP players: at least you get this much. They didnt even HAVE to put base raids in, or bases for that matter. so just stop [censored] , if you dont like it then make your own damn game and you can put whatever you want in it

Why should they drop it? Personally I hate PvP and never intend to play it, doesn't mean I can discuss it with PvP players. They have legitimate concerns about how a, for them, important aspect of the game will work, why can't they discuss it?
Discussion threads like these are important, you cannot have everything your way as a game has to cater to all its players, however you can have a reasonably happy medium. The point of threads like these is to try and find that medium.
So I'd rather the didn't drop it and I'd rather people like you stopped trying to push across the view that everyone else is wrong and you are right. -
The basic thing they are trying to address here is how to make things fair. I see people have already mentioned the problems with Dawn Raids and Ninja Raids, but I see another problem as well....
Power levels, so imagine you have Uber PVP SG 'L33T L00T D00DS!' and you have a RP Based Villian Group, now the PVP Hamidon Farmers are going have all +3 HOs and player killing optimised builds, the others are going to have interesting concepts and maybe a few of whatever the CoV equivilent of HOs turns out to be. Who do you think is going to win?
In all likelyhood it will get very old very fast and you will find a vast majority of groups just won't bother collecting the items of power as they can't be bothered to deal with all the PvP rubbish that comes with it.
I'm not saying the whole idea is doomed, what I am saying is that there will need to be an incredible incentive to want to keep the items in your base to make it worth the hassle, that of course will then lead to other problems, if the item gives you something really cool then it will also give an unfair advantage over people who dislike and do not want to participate in PvP.
It's complicated and I do not envy the designers/developers their job in sorting this one out. No matter what they come up with people are going to complain about how it gives X and unfair advantage over Y.
Me, well for my £x a month I'll just completely avoid the entire PvP part of the game and concentrate on having, what I consider to be, fun. -
Now I've only read a bit of this post because well it's really long and it's 09:00 here. But I've got to say...
Kudos to the Devs, there are people who appreciate you and all the work that goes into this wonderful game:
Like the fact that we get for free what Sony would charge us £16 a pop for (Issue Updates).
The fact that CoH is much more friendly than any other MMORPG I've ever played, giving you such wonderful things as easy to find trainers and locations and a good map.
For the fun I've had playing this game.
And let us not forget the fact that the CoH dev team pays more attention to it's playerbase listening, reacting and addressing concerns than any other MMORPG I've played.
Go team. -

Living in the UK, I'd now like to buy the European DVD version, so I get the comics I missed out on etc, but currently have no intention of playing on the EU servers (too many links with my US Supergroup now, plus you've said there will be no character transfer tool, so why should I leave my two Lv50 characters, plus many high level alts, behind?!).

You're running up against exactly the same problem I have. I would dearly love to support the European release of this fantastic game but doing so means I will have to buy a new box for £40 get a new subscription and loose all my established characters as well as forgo any option to team with my rather excellent SG.
A pity really but I suppose that's the way it goes. -
I know it's been said by a lot of people, but given that more people with the same opinion tends to lend weight....
I live in the UK, I got fed up waiting for the EU Release of CoH so I brought the american one, two copies one for me and one for my house mate. I paid insured carrige for them, got hit for import duty on both of them so each copy ended up costing me nearly £50, yes that is pounds not dollars.
There is no way on earth I'm paying an additional £40 (average price of a pc game in the UK) for another copy.
Sorry guys, I love the game but in my opinion no game is worth £90 outlay + monthly subscription, I'll just stick with the copy I've got now and play in the US timezone. -
On another note, since we're all talking about emotes I really feel we need a /e dance, hammertime
Come on, imagine that. A bunch of heroes going "Stop. Hammer time.." -
How about a Crotch Thrust or a 'Smack that [censored]'
