More info about CoV pre-orders

at first I was with you all... especially because im still a little sore from i5... but when it comes down to it I got over it because I no longer use prestige power slide, i hated the dvd cape, and im not to fond of helmets... but even if i liked them... Cryptic has never attempted to please everyone... and it really isnt a big deal because you get to play the game early... a two day head start will have me close to 20 before it goes public... also.. what will be the villain atlas city? in summation... come on children, you get your cookie and i get mine... you dont get it all in life... Cryptic's evil minds are just showing reality as it is.... keep it up cryptic... great game and horrible decisions

The extra stuff in the Collector's Edition will at least include 7 CoH/CoV HeroClix figurines. It's up to you to decide whether that is incentive to buy the Collector's Edition. It is not required.

ahah! after feeling like a jack[censored] for pm'ing a certain redname, i think i found our answer, at least for the time being. go back to the deluxe edition page and look way way down at the bottom. the page for gamestop at least has this at the bottom, lawyer-style:

...looks like the less-rabid fans that can wait a while until the extras are known might win out on this one . as for me i'm fighting my click finger hard...it wants the reg edition that it knows about...and now.

It is not free. For something to be free you need to be able to get it for nothing. In order to get these items you must make a purchase. Therefore they are at no additional cost. This is a marketing ploy to encourage pre-order sales. It is ignorance to see it as anything else.

A gift is free. This is not a "gift horse" because the pre-order is a prerequisite. This is a marketing ploy.

Free may be one of the most abused words in retail. Buy X get Y Free! No, get Y at no additional cost. If Y were free, I would get it for nothing.

If you lookup the definition of the word "free" you will see it is without restriction. Since the restriction is a purchase, it is not free.

Ahh, semantics, the meanings of meanings.

Ok, so it's not "free", it's "at no additional cost". And, yes, it's a marketing "ploy" to encourage early purchase. Many companies do "marketing ploys" by offering things "at no additional cost". It's a common thing. Buying magazine subscriptions usually mean that your cost-per-issue will be less than if you just bought them one at a time each month (week, quarter, etc). You gain by paying less and the company gains by getting your money sooner (so they can use it sooner).

In this case, NcSoft gets your money sooner and you get an additional costume item. It's just part of the "free enterprise" economic system. Company offers a product and consumer has the choice to purchase or not purchase the product.

If you don't like the helmet choices, don't buy the pre-order. Of course, in this case, buying it after release will not save you anything (unless you wait about 6 months or so for the price to drop).

1) Are these actually *in* stores yet? Do we have a tentative ETA if not?
2) Do you have any info on which ones go to Canadian stores? Specifically EB Canada and Future Shop?

I just called the EB games that I pre-ordered CoV from online and they had no idea what I was talking about when I mentioned a bonus disc. Then they just said "well the disc probably wont be out utill late Sep. early Oct.", but I think they just pulled this out of their butts.

Anyone else haveing any problems when contacting your local store and they dont know what the hell your talking about?

Shipped out to stores just today , and just pre-order from eb.com and you will be ok..

yep my local ebgames had no clue as to beta spots a bonus disk or items they checked their magic computer and no info other than oct. release and $5 down to preorder i went ahead and paid the 50 bucks anyway and said oh well it happens it happens

It may have been mentioned somewhere, but I think another great feature of the two day head start is being able to name my toons. I have some names for my toon I really like, it this'll give me a better shot at getting those names.

Anyone have one for 2)? ebgames.com charges a ridiculous sum to ship to .ca, and besides, they say US only.

I'd really like to know what the Canadian preorder plans are.

Why, for the love of Arachnos, would someone buy a pre-order KNOWING that the full helmet details hadn't yet been revealed?!?

I've been waiting to preoder until all the helmet details have arrived. Now that they have, I think I'll pre-order from EB games. The other exclusive helmets? Meh.

Agreed, it'll make you feel terrible when you get home the day you expect the game to be there, only to discover the FedEx guy left you a note saying you weren't home and didn't leave the game. Happened to me when I pre-ordered BF: Vietnam.

Well that's nice and all but shouldn't those of us pre-ordering the collectors edition either get the CHOICE of these 4 items, regardless of store you bought it at (Mine being EBGames long before I knew there was a difference from store to store) or all 4 of them? That should be worth the extra 30 bucks I'm shelling out...

I called EBGames customer support line and they said that all bonus items are first come first served. Even after I explained that it comes with pre-ordering the game they said that unless you get the bonus item before they run out you will be S.O.L. So unless they dont know what they are talking about...that reallys sucks.

Edit: Called my local store and they said they have no idea when they will get it "because every box they recieve is like christmas" because they have no idea whats in it..haha

So I went into my local Gamestop on Saturday and preordered COV. They have no pre-order boxes with the goodies yet, they say they will get them sometime in the next two weeks and that they will be first come first served, so why the hell did I pre-order?

If I don't get one from them then I guess I'll get my five bucks back and preorder from someone else, no biggie. In fact I think I'll do that right now.

Went to local Best Buy that is famous for not having stock and WOW they had two shelves full of COV. Some nice wallpaper in now adorning my Screen. The Recluse vs. States poster will be up on my Cube tomorrow at work.

anyone in SC or Charlotte, NC area seen the preorder box in stores yet? I called the 2 ebgames in my area and they said i was "making stuff up" and "there is no preorder box for City of Villains". I told them that it is on the EBgames website and they hung up...lovely customer service don't you think?
