The Kudos Thread
Despite my occasional grumbles I really do love this game and have a ton of a respect for the dev team. Tons of thanks!

I say thanks! Thanks for the great game you have given us. And never mind the trolls they are going to complain no matter what you do.

Yeah, nevermind the trolls... their complaints aren't worth hearing because they don't praise all the wonderful things that have been added to the game. If only they could be happy with the stuff that makes the game less fun for them... then we could all enjoy ourselves.
I love CoH! Good job on Issue 3 I can't wait until I get to Striga. This is probably the only MMO I've been with for over 3 months (Yes I admit I'm one of those "Oooh shiny" kinda people).
Thanks Devs for a game that I like so much that I actually made a Blog for it.

Its in Japanese so probably not quite viewable to many of you here.
Thanks for the devs to make CoH live. This is the 2nd MMO I play & I am addicted to it even before beta.
I have always resisted paying for online content since games when online. My son brought this game over and had me hooked in 20min . Great job on story, toon generation, dev response and everything about this game. I've been extremly happy spending way to many hours online doing what I want to do with or without others. THANKS

I want to add my praise, as well! I especially like the active fighting between the 5th Column and Council forces throughout the city. I never cared much for the "two enemy groups fighting, but neither doing damage", but understood it was necessary to give atmosphere, and the players still get a challenge. But this active fighting between 5th & Council is great to watch! I love when several squads all come together in a massive firefight. WEEE!

Beat me to it. I joined two teams joining in the infighting and we got hit by wave after wave of reinforcements. Died 4x. Loved EVERY minute!
Thanks for making a game that we can all enjoy in one fashion or another Developers .
I can understand you guys put a lot of hours into coding and processing this game for us to complain about .
And even though in game I have my fair share of selfish complaints sometimes, I still come back because it's a fun community.
So much fun, that a lot of my in-game friends have gone to EQ2 or WoW and are always like "Talia come join us at WoW or EQ it's soooooo much better than CoH" to which I'm like "Nu uh, their character creations suck!" cause it's true lol.
And honestly the most memorable moments on City of Heroes weren't the times I was with a group Powerleveling against a horde of faceless mobs, or when I would herd large groups of mobs over and over again in door missions. The times you --really-- remember are the difficult ones that when you think back on them are really funny.
Like running around a corner and being one-shotted by an Arch-Villian. Or frantically fleeing from one group of mobs into another. Those are the stories worth remembering I say ^_^.
So, yeah. Thanks and keep up the good work I think we ALL appreciate it even though it's hard for most people to admit.

This article on Warcry says we can create 100 page posts of our complaints to Cryptic, but can't put together 5 pages of thank you's for the people who make and manage CoH.
I say we prove them wrong. I've seen lots of little thank you threads on these boards: let's see what they look like all in one place. You can keep them short and sweet, just keep them coming.
I'll start.
Thanks for being one of the most involved Dev communities I've seen. Statesman alone has posted to these boards over 600 times, in other games, you might find that the entire Dev community posted less than 200 times.
So thanks for taking the time to keep us informed. Even where we disagree with you, it's so good to know where you're coming from.

I'm not saying this to be a hater or anything or to demean this thread in any way HOWEVER I am playing devil's advocate here.
The reason Warcry says what they say is because it's true. This is one thread of only 16 pages so far and there are dozens upon dozens of complaint pages many of them with 150+ pages with only the very few positive posts thrown in here and there.
I do appreciate what the Devs do for us...sometimes. I often don't appreciate it at all...So thank you for sometimes, Devs. But that's all I can say.
If we want threads with 150+ pages of positive posts and thanks yous then it looks like the Devs are going to have to start pleasing a lot more players than just us on these 16 meger pages in comparison.
I'll toss my $0.02 into the hat as well. As one software developer to others, I gotta say you folks are doing a tremendous job in this game. The developers, the support staff, everyone involved seems top notch. I've been playing since beta and have been having a wonderful time. You folks have had to make some hard decisions, and kudos for doing what you have to do in order to make the game work for the long term. Keep up the great work!

Actually, many of those posts are debates between people who are appreciative and those who aren't. But the Warcry article WAS a wake up call that we say too little about what is good in the game and too much about what isn't.
I post to Ask a Stupid Question all the time. I figure I can post one or two fewer stupiditied a day and one or two kudos instead. If lots of people do that, we might actually serve as a voice against the negativity.
I'd like to kudo the smooth Issue 3 rollout. The servers are a bit laggy, but they're in the yellow, too. I compart this to Issue 2 and I'm ery impressed with the behind the scenes time they spent in the past few weeks preparing for this. Very nice.

Actually, that's why I made the point that there are positive posts thrown in amongst the negative. However, the majority ARE negative, the few that are positive are rarely a debate but rather someone feeling that everything is okay with the game flaming someone who upset about one thing or another...calling them whiners or making pathetic similes between them and one year olds not getting what they want...it's hardly positive.
Not to say that there are not a positive/negative debate here and there BUT the majority. I've spent most of my time since the release yesterday reading the boards until I just couldn't anymore because there are SOOOO many negative posts and it became too much to handle. In fact I've barely played the new content because of reading. The new content doesn't really affect me anyway because I am neither a scrapper nor a tank but a defender and pretty much built to team, though I can get through a mission with only minions and lts on my own and sometimes the occasional boss...well before Issue 3 was released that is...so all in all the content they did release was pretty good for my specific character.
So I do thank them. All I'm saying is there would not be anywhere near the number of negative posts if there wasn't something off about things.
It's like that old saying about "you can only hear something so many times before you start to believe it."
Well I can only read so many negative posts from hundreds upon hundreds of negatively affected people before I start to believe them as well. There is truth to what they're saying as well.
So I don't know if this post really fits in this thread because I'm on the fence about so many things. BUT I do thank the Dev team for some of the things they do, so I suppose that's better than no thanks at all.
I'll Kudo Striga Isle, it's a lovely little place to go and visit, it almost makes me wish to play one of my lower level alternates and get them to the correct security level for that place so I can do some missions there. Assuming none of the higher levels mission end up sending you there now for some or another. I'm a bit miffed about there not being a current exit to Striga marked on the map and after exploring for a while and getting my map open I had NO idea where to get out for the longest time BUT all in all I love the new zone. The volcano is awesome!

Not that the boards aren't pretty negative as a whole, bue ESPECIALLY after a release. The only person that likes change is a wet baby. And every release these boards become flamefest for a couple of weeks. Go play the game - there's lots of good fun stuff in there. Come back in a couple of weeks and piick your forums carefully (ideas forum is nice, as are most of the server forums).
But don't let the boards tell you what you think about the game: play it!

Did the cape mission to help out a friend tonight. Capes look cool. Very cool. Hope someday to see other billlowing clothing, too. Kudos for capes.
BIG THANKS
YOU GUYS ROCK
Totally Addicted to this Wonderful Game..
Take Care..
Let me add my thanks to the Dev team, as well: I haven't had an interest in comic books or super heroes since I was a little kid (I'm 32 now) - City of Heroes has been the only video game I've bought in months (and believe me, I'm an avid gamer - It was a common issue between my wife and I that I'd spend over $100 a month on new games).
I love the content in the game - I love the fact that the game can change *so* drastically just by creating even a subtly different character - I love the free content that comes out (and I can only imagine what *paid* content would be like) - The monthly comic book is a huge bonus - Haven't read those in decades
Thank you Statesman and all the team at Cryptic and NCSoft for creating - and constantly improving a game of ages!

We may not all agree with the changes, but we gotta give Statesman full Props for coming down to the trenches here and defending them, again, and again, and again, and... ...good grief man!
For me personally, these changes may have been right on the money. ...Did the respecc trial today(I only do it personally for the challenge, I haven't actually used a respec yet) and I went into it thinking it was impossible. ...And we failed our first try. AND The fargin Server crashed on the 2nd Try. But we also weren't playing completely as a team or at our top level.
And the kicker was that the other Controller starts telling me I'm so gimped half way through it because he takes out nothing but Purples all day long and can fight 4 bosses at once(yeah right pal, not anymore you can't), and we were all hatin life a little at that point since it was the first time any of us failed it.
But once we got over ourselves and started foccussing our attentions on the man next to us and on all the details, started working together like we were joined at the hip, we flew through it, ended with NO DEBT, and had only 1 death(But he was a FireBlaster so that was required by law ). I'd do it all over again because we reached a new plane, We transcended the standard pickup-group and it's suspicions and akwardness and truly felt like a team of heroes.
Thanks Statesman, for raising the bar on MMO's, and our own potential with it.
Oh yeah: I gave Striga Isle a cursory inspection, and the zone is really quite cool. I particularly liked the Council base and the Pantheon Husks rising from the swamp... gave me a bit of a start. My main character's a bit too high to enjoy most of the zone, but I'm looking forward to sending my alts there soon.
I dont usually post, But I watch the boards a lot to see what is going on. The first thing i do is go to the dev corner to see thier posts. The fact that they read so much of this stuff and stay on top of it is incredible in itself as it takes alot to read and still do thier other jobs also. So I for one will add my thanks to this thread. I hope that they stay as responsive to our needs and concerns as they have proven to be for the 8 months or so I've been on.

Alright, here's my praise...
For one, i don't play test server simply because i don't want to ruin the suprise and spoil my appitite when the updates go live.
I think the coolest little thing added is the random NPC public comments. to actually be addressed in public about my victories, THAT makes me feel heroic. a very very nice touch.
Tonight was my first time in Striga Island. An SG mate and my 25 blaster ran the Peebles missions complete. Not once did i look at my xp bar, nor look at my alarm clock.
Fantastic stuff
Thanks to everyone Directly Involved, In bringing this game into existence and making it available to Me. Thanks to everyone who supported the development of this game. Thanks to the Players who Support and help this game to continue. I thanks everyone that has inspired this game to come about, the pencilers, inkers, colorists, editors, publishers, animators, writers, directors, actors, Movie Production Houses (Yes Even B Movies Helped ) , I can Go on and on, ex..Microsoft, Alexander Graham Bell, Invidia, IBM,etc... You get the picture. All these things have lead to a point where I can now Participate In the game as a Super Hero, and to me I think it is Super Thing Indeed.
Best. Game. Ever.
Yes, thanks for a good game. Come 1/8/2005; I'll have been playing the game for one full year (counting closed-beta of course) . It's the first MMORPG where I've become an 'alt-a-holic' because I find all the ATs fun to play; AND the fact that even non-traditional groups (stuff like two Tanks and a Blaster) can do things in game (and coming friom the EQ padigam of Tank, Healer, Slower all required or we can't do anything tonight); and I do like that. In EQ I tried four different classes but only enjoyed the Monk class; and any student of EQ knows what happened (and continues to happen) to said class.
The speed and sheer fun of massive combat is great too. It spoiled me to the point that I found combat in WoW somewhat slow and boring when I betad that as well.
All these things are the reason that CoH is now the only MMORPG I play and pay for.
Keep up the good work. I'm looking forward to the SSOoC system. I DO wish you folks could find a way to add other types of missions where perhaps the point would be to save/rescue all the mundane citizens who walk around and sing our character's praises; or use the powers to avert a 'natural disaster' in some way, etc; but (in MMORPG terms) this games still young. I also honestly thought you guys would never be able to maintain the 'Free content update every 2 to 3 months'; but you have and each update has had something really good in it.
So, again, thanks for a job well done, and try not to lets the whines, rants, etc, get to you. Remember that when someone's content, they tend to keep quiet and enjoy the ride; so when someone's updet, they are WAY MORE likely to post and vent.
I have a great time playing the game you have created. CoH was my first, and probably last, MMORPG. I'm a FPS kinda fella, and had no want/wish to have anything to do with 3rd person games. KOTOR was the only 3rd person I played. I'd always fantasized about being a superhero, age 1 to now, and CoH has given me a chance to act out those fantacy's (well, most of em... the PG rated ones anyway).
I do enjoy your game, and even though issue 3 has brought about new, erm, challenges (cough*bosshp*cough), it doesn't deter me from continuing to play your fun, addictive game. Not to mention, the customer service is pretty fan-damn-tastic. Plus, you have a sense of humor, and aren't corprate slaves that speak in lawer-ease. Please continue to come in here and give us updates/ideas/feelings.
Thanks all.
