B) 8.) New Spy Archetype, Power Sets & Costumes As cool as it sounds at first, a non-combat AT will be issolated from the rest of the community, there will no be a role for it on almost any team. This eventually would be an issue.

non combat? i always appreciate an educated assumption but come on...... -

I generally like the release dates MOO suggested for I15 and I16. I think I15 is close. I tend to think I16 will drop in November-ish, since there will be quite a bit of work involved (if PC is indeed part of the Issue), but still solidly this autumn.
In relation to the discussion above about Issue releases and Going Rogue, I get the feeling there will be an Issue to coincide with the release of the expansion. That's what happened with CoV, and quite a bit of I6 was getting CoH ready for the new side (including graphics updates, the PvP zones, and a new Pocket D).
However, I think early 2010 is an extremely optimistic estimate for Going Rogue. I came to the game not long before the release of CoV, but from what I gather, CoV was announced about a year before it launched. This is rather what I think will happen with Going Rogue, so I'm expecting the expansion in Spring of 2010, probably coinciding with the release of I17 for the existing game.
[/ QUOTE ]
unless a closed beta announcement for rogue hits in the next 1-2 months i'll have to agree with the early-ish 2010 suggestion.
iirc c.o.v. was in a closed beta state for approx 6-8 months prior to launch. granted, it did 'seem' to have more game mechanics that required testing over going rogue (which at this time has a few 'unofficial' power sets and a potentially new a.t. in the 'spy') that at first blush appears more about an expansion of the game universe/playspace over fundamental mechanics.
looking forward to finding the praetorian rick's cafe.

****SPOILERS****
(ERR...sorta)
OK the first mission of the Barracuda Strike Force (5th Column return) has 8 villains (with some Arachnos transport support) attacking City Hall in Atlas. Yes, of course, this is an instance, but could you imagine what would happen if 8 villains really tried this.
Ignore the drones. Besides Ms. Liberty, on most servers there would be dozens of heroes on site in seconds.
This gets replayed over and over in COV, but only once IIRC in City of Heroes, on the STF.
It got me wondering. Should those encounters be rewritten? Not necessarily to make them harder (although that might be the effect), but instead to add a whole lot of generic "heroes" (and in the case of the STF, "Villains") to the maps of missions where you attack opposite side zones.
So instead of dozens of generic PPD and/or Longbow, you have SpiritKnight and Starry Lass, etc. And of different levels too. Having a costume contest going on in a mission would be the height of immersion IMO.
[/ QUOTE ]
Or make it even more fun. Whenever you get to that point in the Strike Force... A hero event message is sent out calling for heroes to defend City Hall... They then take a teleport at their city hall to the one you are currently in....
[/ QUOTE ]
this exact situation is one many people including myself have been requesting since i6/i7 as pvp missions. the closest we ever came was during the rwz rework (i10?i11?) and a beta bug placed a shadow shard mission entry of mine in the rwz. we were able to create hero/vill teams who would enter and immediately be auto kicked from the team, but not the map. we would reform into seperate crews and hunt each other down in the caves while avoiding eyeballs of doom.

i like the idea of the show, could give it a different hip n edgy name like 'wh@t's my n!che b!tch?' but it'd be a late nighter.
if we're going game show, i vaguely (really really vaguely) recall a show devoted to driving around and grabbing average guy/gal off the street and simply handing them a few hundred thousand for the reaction. granted, it could be a bit boring to frap in game, but i'd like to see that happen a bit more often in game.
could also go the japanese game show route and golf in perez, works out to about a 9 hole par 3 (at best, the npc's don't take much punishment =p )
but i digress from the market perspective of the thread. -
just a quick shout out to the Father for all the assistance they have provided over the years to alot of people.

I've searched around and researched and thats kinda where I was gettin the idea that IO defense on a blaster is a good idea. I was even told by a blaster in game that had some defense bonuses. But you know what I didnt consider? Maybe its only good pve side. Now, as for PVE, I gets BUSY!I'm pretty confident with more sets I'm good to go on the pve side but this pvp thing is like a puzzle, wrapped in an enigma, wrapped in fun, wrapped in confusion, wrapped in frustration, wrapped in bacon.
[/ QUOTE ]
there was a slightly open window for defense sets in pvp that lasted approx 1 issue, and was then beaten into the ground with the flaming nerf bat until it was assured to be dead. like many things that get changed in this game, if it's too reasonable to be effective, then expect a flaming nerf bat.
/2inf
until the suggested uses of powers in pve at least represent the same inherentness of the power in pvp, the learning curve is way to steep for the average player in time and research (flurry, i'm looking directly at you as an example of WTF) of things like diminished returns, why defense is abhored in this game, and dude, where's my mez/healz?

Hi guys, i know fire/fire brutes tend to be the squishy type when it comes to tanking anything serious, but i'm wondering what people have come up with to address this i.o./build wise.
my latest attempt at mids seemed to cap out near 60-65% for most things (including psi, which i believe is a bug, could be wrong though...) with healing flames at approx 11-13 secs and an approx 15% damage bonus/80% or so global recharge.
any thoughts or ideas? (currently at work so mid's is unavailable for a few hours.)
thanks in advance. -

i'd like to thank bill z for going out of his way to provide this resource. thanks man, you've always been a positive presence in the community.
and as someone who is currently leveling up a fire/fire brute (and has several 50 scrappers including a claw/sr and a broadsword/fire) the major difference appears (to me) to simply be one of playstyle, role taking (not to be confused with roleplaying) and what you bring to the game you play.
i've found it reasonably simple to maintain approx 50-90% fury even in the most laid back teams, although at times it's also like being a large dog on a strong leash dragging along the rest of the team with or without their consent.
as a scrapper i have different priorities than as a brute/tank. i'm not likely to be the alpha soaker or the agro holder except accidentally or incidentally depending on the circumstances.

I think all this talk that the side-switching is only going to be in Praetoria is ridiculous. If that was going to be the case then they wouldn't have said Paragon City and The Rogue Isles. They're no doubt called something different in Praetoria, plus with side-switching as the big hook of this expansion it's a little paranoid and "tinfoil hat" to assume that it's not going to take place in the prime world.
[/ QUOTE ]
*slaps on tinfoil hat in the shape of an alien duck
per the faq this is a paid expansion. if the previous paid expansion of city of villains and things like paid costume/bonus packs (which have sold reasonably successfully to my understanding) are any indication at all then 'have/have not' based on purchasing power should not be a surprise. when cov launched it brought superbases with it that required the paid addition of cov to even access them. the set up for going rogue is based off of a long held community wish to be able to sideswitch and puts the smell of money into the air.
the idea of having something like this in praetoria does have an interesting feel to it. a not-necessarily 'neutral' zone for heroes/villains to to come to the astounding realization of 'i like the cut of your jib' or 'omg think of the children' dilemma. if the zone if different enough and has a significant amount of play value other than a simple mission stack to side switch we could very well have a very desirable zone or 2 to hang out in while searching for rick's cafe.
my major concern over this is the hanging hype of a few words and flashy trailer that may or may not translate. an example for me would be the oro issue where it really seemed to be headed towards world changing events (infected taking over talos was a theme in a inworld news release that was great, but didn't translate into the game at all, and instead we simply had to do the training mission over again) that didn't change the world.
we'll see eventually, sometime around nov i'd guess. -

3 back to 2 i really wish firefly people would have done what family guy did and taken the series to USA network or Sci Fi network keep building rep and eventually come back to fox like family guy did
maybe terminator people will take show to sci fi? i doubt it but i think it would make sense

unfortunately, Sci-Fi is now SyFy http://www.reddit.com/r/reddit.com/r...e_itself_syfy/ which may explain why the line up now has more wrestling than actual science fiction. -

What I would like to know is how these spammers get ahold of character names that aren't on or haven't been on in a long time.
[/ QUOTE ]
excellent question. let's take it a step further.
if/when city vault is released what is the likelihood of 'The List' (or portion thereof) being copied and used as a spam marketing tool?
just a thought. -
there's a room in several c.o.t. underground maps, and it also shows on some Infernal a/v missions, it is a largish square room that is full of pillars (just about front to back) on a slightly raised platform. iirc many torches and a bit of debris around the room.
over a year ago i had suggested it and posted pics, but the pics are gone. hopefully someone here recognizes the room i'm thinking of. the fights in this room would be quite something, without being the tight, closed hell of the monkey cage and the many geometry hangs.
if there were ever one room i've wanted to fight a few people in that would be it. -
nice looking list. you may see an app from me in the near future, my sched has a been a [censored] lately.

i agree with everything but the title. '3 moves' seems to overstate the simplicity...just a touch.

For the Emporer's sake, don't you see?! Next thing you know they'll be nickel-and-diming us for everything! This is the kind of thing I thought I wouldn't have to worry about with NCsoft running the game...
[/ QUOTE ]
while it is a tad over the top in presenting a message, it does have some merit to it. has the nickel and diming begun in earnest? i'd like to have the options these costumes/emotes represent, but not at 9.99 us, being a little 'light' on the content for such a 'paypack' to say the least. will the next wedding/special event also require a nonrefundable 'gift' to access? is this going to be the preferred method of item delivery to players for their characters outside of issues?
a subscription is paid for a reason, to access the available content. this feels more like moving to a tiered system of accessibility. those with the money, have all the goodies.
