    Wtf?

Just occurred to me, RMT people supposedly do stuff like that. I seem to recall finding occasional worthless low-level stuff selling for insane amounts of money in another game.

    Wtf?

Volley of Velocity: Knockback/Recharge, level 11.

    Last four:

    50,000 on 2010-10-11
    500,000,000 on 2010-09-04
    20,000 on 2010-09-04
    250 on 2010-08-26
  3. Traps/sonic. One of the most important things I can do in a new pull is whack as many things as I can with my AoE res debuff, because that's a 20% damage buff to everything for everyone in the group. That's a pretty big buff, and if I do it early enough, the first couple of AoEs clear all the minions and some lieutenants.

You might well be correct! If you do nothing but heal, you will be so busy healing you won't be able to do anything else, and people will die anyway.

If you make intelligent use of buffs and attacks, though, you'll only have to heal occasionally, and you'll have tons of opportunities to use your other abilities.

Basically, if you're coming here from some kind of elves-and-dwarves game, you're going to be utterly, totally, confused by how defender plays after the first few levels.

Do Controllers heal less than a Defender or are they balanced?
Thanks again all the replies are much help.
They generally heal less, but it doesn't matter.

I was the sole defender on a team last night. We didn't have a tank. I was playing a traps/sonic defender. The sum total of my healing ability was that every few minutes I could drop a thing that would increase natural health regeneration a bit.

    We were fine.

CoH places a MUCH higher emphasis on preventing damage than on taking it and then healing it.
  5. Pretty much, painful without stamina. My brute runs out of blue SO fast soloing. Then I have to sit around for two or three weeks waiting for blue to come back.

    Post I19, this wouldn't happen.
  6. It would be awesome if the salvage counts indicated, not just whether you have salvage for a single recipe, but enough salvage for every recipe you're carrying. Say, red if you don't have enough, yellow if you have enough for one, white if you have as much of a given salvage as would be used by every recipe you're carrying. (Obviously, memorized recipes would not participate in this evaluation.)
  7. Mace/shield, currently level 12, using a mix of IOs -- they didn't cost that much to get, and they definitely improve survivability. Still have definite blue shortages, though. My big mitigation for that so far was to get a kismet +acc proc so that the accuracy I've slotted will go further, because missing is costing a noticeable chunk of the blue I'm using -- probably about 20%, since my hit chance was about 80%. I'll try again in a day or two.
  8. I've seen people still using them occasionally for quite some time -- especially, as you note, the ranged attacks on melee archetypes.
  9. The vet powers strike me as making a MUCH bigger difference than the booster pack powers. Of course, I say this because I have the booster packs and not the vet powers.

But I see people with their decent ranged attacks, and their melee cones, at first level, and I think "gosh, that sure looks like it's a game-changing effect".
  10. I don't think it's a big deal, even cumulative. Sure, if I happen to get speed boost from the mutation and I have ninja run and I have inherent fitness, I can move really fast... So what? Doesn't make me tougher. The core of balance is combat, not travel. Travel's a convenience.
  11. I cheated, I married someone who understands the gamer gibberish. Used to have an LJ icon of someone with 4-digit health numbers captioned "LF39M Hogger".
  12. Why would you stay married to someone who wants you to skip marketeering in favor of some kind of social event?

    ... Well, congrads anyway. :P
  13. So did you complain about getting powers past level 40 on a character whose concept had fewer powers?
  14. Caltrops is by far my favorite single power in this game.

Here's the thing. The non-details description doesn't mention the MAGNITUDE FIFTY FEAR.

But the fear effect makes it an AMAZING mitigator, because it keeps things running away from you a lot of the time. If you block a corridor with caltrops, enemies will sometimes run multiple rooms away. Caltrops plus the ranged defense toggle gives you better melee defense, in practice, than you get from the melee defense toggle, because everything runs away and then shoots at you.

It's not just that they run, though. Its that they run SLOWLY most of the time, so they spend quite a while in range of your melee attacks, but not meleeing with you.

And with any recharge at all, caltrops is always available. Add in a Positron's Blast chance for energy damage and it even does respectable damage.

I've got two traps characters (MM and def), and they have been known to simply run into a crowded group and drop trops, and not get badly hurt. Heck, I once managed to save an ally tanker who was down to about 3% health, surrounded by 6 enemies, with caltrops. Dropped caltrops, started killing everything as fast as I could. Nothing actually managed to land another attack, because they were all too busy running away.

Caltrops is a very situational power. The situation it's useful in is that there are enemies who might otherwise attack you.

Yeah, although SD aren't up often enough. Maybe they will be up more later.

I'm looking forward to my respec, gonna move my kismet +acc into maneuvers so it doesn't wear off halfway through each FFG. Or possibly into hover, if/when I get that.

    Dargeting Trone

I dearly love /devices. Caltrops is probably my single favorite power in the game. It offers AMAZING damage mitigation -- and really, damage mitigation is what I want from my blaster secondary, most of the time, because damage output is not something I lack...

    Dargeting Trone

For the most part, to-hit and accuracy are multiplied; what that means is that if you have 30% accuracy, +10% to hit turns into +13% chance of hitting (unless you hit the caps). And that in turn means that the mix of targeting drone plus still having some accuracy is awesome.
  18. The temp power has a short duration and is frankly sorta crap.

My solution: Take mission, then go do other stuff for a bit, then come back. I did it on kin/nin, and the key is that the destroyers are pretty much pure melee -- so I did the whole thing standing on caltrops. Also, I had burst, and I was two levels above them (I had a level 15 mission, I was 17).

... Actually, maybe I didn't have burst. But I had trops, and I had the level advantage.
  19. I did faceplant once when my trap didn't activate fast enough -- was toe-bombing with PGT. Later, when I have more slots and more IOs, I plan to have superspeed plus a stealth IO so I can toebomb even better.
  20. Okay, I had one of these before, couldn't get into it, deleted. Then I made a bots/traps, and I started really liking the traps set.

    Tried again.

OMG SQUEE! Pretty much every group in the mission, I have SOMETHING that I can do to mess them up. I can usually do poison gas trap every other group, acid mortar every other group, and seeker drones occasionally.

    And MAN is that effective.

I have also found that, despite having a bad rep, Healing Trap is actually really good if you drop it preemptively when you see a second large group getting involved.

Also, the -res debuffs are really substantial for a team.

    Procs in pets?

The stupid thing is, I have the impeded swiftness damage proc on my demon prince and didn't even connect that.
  22. seebs

    Procs in pets?

    As a specific example:

Does "Cloud Senses: Chance for Negative Energy Damage" work in Dark Servant?
  23. Necroing the thread to pass on: Finally got to level 20, took my I18 freespec to get Stamina because I was really having a rough time without it, now having a blast. Also, the colorful, it's AMAZING. I have cloak of darkness set to turn me into an indistinct ball of neon pink and yellow, with blue Omega aura flames, blue and green dark embrace, bright yellow ball for obsidian shield... It's blinding. It really is.

    I'm SO happy.

If anyone wants to see what Captain Chroma looks like, ping me in game sometime (@Seebs Dot Net) and I can probably log him in and punch some things so you can see how awful it looks in play. It's really amazing -- I have all the Dark Melee stuff set to impose different colors of neon fire tohit debuffs on enemies.
  24. seebs

    Why?

I pretty much craft every recipe I get without paying any attention, at all, to what it's worth.

Then I sell list of 'em for 1 inf. I don't care.
  25. Which is weird to me, 'cuz I'm an RPer at heart, and I found their cover explanation perfectly acceptable. Heck, for a super hero universe, it's really, really, GOOD.
