Teleport Foe ?
I don't even get why they have a accuracy penalty to group fly. No one likes it. Everyone in a group who remembers it has a accuracy penalty will get mad if you have it on. I just don't get it.
Devs in a room thinking up new powers...
HEY guys great idea.. Lets make a group power that cost lots of endurance for the player.. Has limited use and give it a accuracy penalty to boot.
Everyone cheers.
I compare it to putting a tax on tax..
I've said it time and time again.. Make it a group only buff that the player can dole out as he wishes. Make the player owning it responsible for the endurance use and if the MM gives it to his pets the MM then pays for the endurance. And remove the accuracy penalty. This way your giving actually giving someone a reason to pick up a third power from the flight pool. Further remove that distance cap on it that makes everyone fall.
Nutshell You have to give someone a reason to use this power. Otherwise what is the point when you can pick up a temp flight from Gandville for the jetpack. Or buy a IO on the market.
I mean really this is something I almost find petition-able it is such a horrendous power. -
Bah, Just discovered you can only have 18 storage bins. I think I need to request first to increase the number of storage bins.

In reality its pretty much a Traps build. Even with my Sonic Traps Corruptor, all I use is the traps part and I use the Sonic attacks to kill mobs that are close to dead and running. You can do the same with the whip attacks. I picked up Detonator for the goof factor. Big demon goes boom.
Again it was all themed really. Basically a nasty geeky kid with a pet demon he calls for backup. Like the ultimate bully. My silly gripe was I didn't like the look of the boy. I noticed and felt for some reason a helmet somewhat masks the face so all you see is the eyes. Which gives the impression along with the body build of a young boy. I just didn't want the helmet. A female toon seems easier because they have the school girl outfit already set up. It was pretty much a shoe in. But had my heart intent on a boy toon. Holding out till GR goes live and see what new things come out with it. Might get lucky have better looking models to work with. First is my Robot Traps. Second was an attempt at a kid.

The problem again is no Maneuvers and Tactics. How bad is not having that in a IO build? I don't really know.
The build also has some decent resistance numbers across the board. Over all the build is a cheap build minus the Num + regen. I guess you can work to get the merits and buy it if you don't have the money.

I run solo with a tiny VG base. Pretty empty except for the 18 STORAGE RACKS FILLED WITH SALVAGE that I need to run around to each time to figure out whats in them if I log off for more then 1 or 2 days.
Here are some ideas for SG/VG bases.
Storage index computer
I'm tired of looking through all my bins I can only imagine larger SG/VG bases.
The concept
Can use the same graphics as the IO computer but make it a different color glow instead of blue to differentiate between the two. It cost 1 storage rack space and you need 1 per workshop.
What it does
Basically the computers are tied together and index and categorize all your salvage. So instead of looking in 18 bins for 3 Iron bars. You go to the computer where you can then pull them out from there. You can also place items into the bins from the computer as well.
OR if this is too much
1 computer takes up the spot of one salvage rack. That computer then Organizes all the salvage. Basically in the background the computer is a temporary storage space and the computer uses that to ideally put all like salvage in the same rack. So if you have 3 Iron bars in 3 different bins in 3 different rooms. The computer will pull them together and place them in 1 storage bin.
What would be nice in conjunction with this would be a way to label Storage racks as tech or arcane or even unique names. EG Workshop Alpha Storage Rack 1. So for those with big bases that might want to name the workshops.
So now once all organized you would look at the computer to see where exactly are those Iron Bars. It would then spit out the Workshop and storage bin number. Again it would be nice if you could place items into the computer to be stored. So one place to drop off storage but you would have to go pick up the storage.
Or yet another even more simpler idea.
1 computer that just tells you all the places a piece of salvage is located. So again with the 3 Iron bar. It would stay Workshop 1 Tech storage bin 1 , Workshop 1 Arcane storage bin 3 and Workshop 2 Tech storage bin 7.
Have the bins numbered clockwise from the outside in while facing north. So at least players have a reference point to start from when looking.
Anything would be better then looking through 18 bins and counting ( next workshop is going up tonight )

I think that since I am the master and controller of my pets that I should be able to determine who gets bubbles first.
Simply I would rather I get the first bubble instead of being the last right behind my Force Field Generator.
Maybe a right click on the pets would allow me a 1st and 2nd choice of order with the rest left for them to decided.
It is a simple issue when your looking to get all the defense you can. It can be a pain when you forget and summon all the bots and now your waiting around to get your bubble. Otherwise you have to dismiss the others and wait for the power to recharge. Again it is a unnecessary annoyance. Not game ending, just a quality of life issue. -
I am a big defense cap player. I have recently discovered it even though it has been around for years. I consider it an open secret that some players just don't care to understand. I finally decided to give it a try and see what it as all about. After seeing what my Dark Electric Defender could do I decided to try out a Sonic Traps on Villain side. After soloing +1 +8 and +2 +8 groups and further doing some TF's in which I was given some modest complements I feel it is the ideal way to go for my Masterminds as I just use the pets as an extension of my own attacks. I basically consider the pets as always on attack powers that I need to toggle on and off.
the build is good in the sense it is Smash, Lethal, Energy and Ranged Positional type Defense Capped. Smash and Lethal are the most common damage types. and Ranged is the most common Positional attack. If you don't understand the importance of this by all means just say so and myself or someone else can jump in and explain.
That being said here is my take on Demon Summoning / Pain. I do not know how "Gimped" it might be in some power areas in the Pain section.

Since you mentioned it, now it is happening alot to me. Mostly going from outside zone to another.
As someone said I would dismiss and resummon the pets before zoning

Funny even with the PET-LESS Mastermind in all caps I still get offers for teams. My whip attacks and toggles are an endurance drain though. I might slot some low level IO sets to get some damage and endurance savings. -
I would take slots out of caltrops and Seeker drone to 6 slot Force Field gen and Maneuvers with defense. That should get you to 41.8 or something in Smash and Lethal defense.
I would change the caltrops to slow instead of damage. Because they do lousy damage for the start anyways. I would rather have mobs moving very slow in the caltrops and staying in there LONGER.
I do not think you need to slot the Protector bots with 3 defense. I think 1 alone will get you to defense cap. Honestly I don't think you need any. I believe at 50 with no defense I get 7% from them. Or when you level I would get the slots and leave them blank.. summon them and see how much defense they give you.. Dismiss them and then slot them with 1 defense and see how much it is.
I think you should skip the extra stuff in the patron pool and pick up Aid other and Aid self. Yes you do have Triage beacon and it helps, but because your pets will be running all over not at defense cap and you have nothing to hold aggro yourself. And further your only at Smash and lethal defense cap.. Anything that is not Smash or Lethal is gonna hurt as I mentioned.
The impression I am getting is your imagining that your gonna tell your bots to attack Mob soandso from a distance and they will stand there and attack mob soandso from a distance. Sadly for some unknown reason at this time, they do not. 3 may stay.. 2 will charge in and one will move to another direction to get into range. Why again who knows.. Sometimes one of those pets will run into another group of mobs and aggro them and probably get killed.. Less bots.. less bodyguard mode.
I just feel your bots will be running all over and your limited heals will have you summoning your pets more then you will want. Plus that's a big endurance drain. Your net endurance gain is 1.37. The usual safe number is 2 or above.. As you can see your below that number. Just activate all your powers and subtract from your EndRec which is 2.48 Your EndUse which is 1.11. Which leaves you with 1.37..
So if your using all those attacks, trust me Traps alone is more then enough to keep you busy. You will see that you will run out endurance to do anything important when you need it. End result is you will then end up with attacks you will hardly use. -

Simply help the OP out.
Wassabi I jump into a group of mobs on the Cimerora wall, I hit FS and Hail of bullets. 90% of the mobs are dead, I have Bullet Rain keyed up and the rest are dead. I don't see the necessity to fire off FS again.
In a AV fight, it is one mob. YES I do see where firing off FS every 9 seconds might matter instead of 23 IF I was trying to solo the mob or with less then a competent group of players. But if we are fighting against Rom in the last fight and the Brute / Tank pulls all the mobs and Rom at the same time. In my FS scenario I explained before I am along with the rest of the group still going to kill everyone within a matter of a minute or so and have Rom standing on his own. The most I ever see standing is a Cyclops at the end of the swarm of AOE attacks.
You will have to express when in this game you would need FS up every 9 seconds as compared to 23 seconds. I can't think of any atm.
Game wise I just need to see where it all matters that much. Enlighten me I don't mind learning something new. -

Why am I getting a random lecture on how the Soft-cap works when I already know? Because I shrugged off using Scorpion Shield and suggested a resistance toggle? I've used builds with soft-capped defense to S/L before, and come to the conclusion that resistance is better in those cases where the "impenetrable" soft-cap becomes irrelevant, like fighting Traitors or Nemesis(both rather popular mobs to kill when you're 50, btw). The build I suggested would be better with soft-capped defenses, however the way I see it the slotting necessary to gain it would be more detrimental to the build's integrity.
Also, factoring out body guard to try to one-up someone in a Mastermind discussion is a reach, along with saying that powers not included in the aforementioned build are useless in said build is, well redundant. I can jump back with the comment You will get hit more and in some cases you will have NO resistance or Defenses of any great value to fall back on. So you will be worse off then a player with Defense Caps and no resistance. You will NOT able to heal your pets fast enough or keep them alive long enough in big fights. Yes without a doubt if you stick to mobs your only protected against your fine sort of, sometimes. Body Guard only goes so far.
I know what mobs my 50s come up against as well. No need to try to inject some doubt as to if I play this game or not.
I felt your built was flawed. I explained why. No need to get upset over it. I wasn't offensive and made clear in the first sentence it was not my reason for posting. I did feel it was only proper of me to back up my thoughts with some proof instead of just making some blanket statement of Defense Cap is better then resistance, your a noob lawlz.. Right click on a pet and dismiss one, see what happens.
Are you using some crazy macro that might have gotten broken ?
Don't use anything that is not part of the game when you first created the class. Again I am going back to the macro or hotkey issue.
I am trying to establish a base for trouble shooting. So we need to remove every extra from the equation regardless of how stupid you might think it is.
Right click and tell a pet to goto a spot. Go to a new zone. Get off the map.. You said Zoned out but did you dismiss the pets.. Did they follow you out ?
If you tried all the logical options, EG dismissing and starting new Zoning and dismissing. Trying a new map. Bypassing the keyboard and using the mouse to left click and command a pet to do something. Use the commands given in the pet window.
The last thing would be restart verifying the file option. If that does not work. You have no choice but to call a GM. -
I think this is a better build. With the Protector Bots you should be a Smash and Lethal Cap Defense. Think Rocks and Bullets when you hear smash and lethal.
Many attacks have a mixed component.. So they might do Fire and Lethal or Energy and Smash. So you get some defense but not all.
You will need Heal other to heal pets when Repair is down. I usually save Repair for my Assault bot and I wait until 2 of my tier 1 bots ( that is the first pet you get ) are dead before I resummon them. You will need an interrupt in your heals other and self because you will get aggro once you start putting out all your gimmicks. And since your not at any Positional Defense Cap when you get hit with anything that is not smash or lethal it will hurt. The interrupt will lessen the time the attack that hits you breaks you from using your Heal self or others.
The Maneuvers and Assault are for the pets to help hit and give more damage. Since your pets are lower levels then you, when your fighting mobs that are 1 or 2 levels higher then you they can be 4 levels higher for your pets. If they are not hitting it is not worth having them out.
Hasten helps ALL your powers recharge faster. bring the build into Mids and see the circle at the end of some powers like Hasten ? In this build they should be on Hasten, Your pets, Health, Stam, Force field gen, Maneuvers and tactics. Click on that little button it will go either green meaning ON or black meaning OFF ( duh ). Click Hasten off to notice the difference in the recharge for each of the powers. Some can go up higher as much as 10 seconds more. Example Repair with Hasten on 50 seconds.. Hasten off 72 Seconds.
If your gonna swap slots take from Acid Mortar and Caltrops. Because of the mind set of going with SOs, I think this is the minimum build you have to consider.
Trust me if people invite you to a team and don't see Tactics Maneuvers running and then your Pew Pewing with your gun. The next thing they will start noticing is your pets missing. At that point either they will tell you get rid of your pets since they are not hitting anyways or sadly get rid of you.

But your saying is you are doing it with SO's ? And you get no aggro fighting a AV solo ? So your Soloing AV's with A SO build.
Further your saying you did this with a crappy build of Merc Traps but deleted it because they stink. So now your Robot Traps.

This game is MATH straight and simple, and if 1+1 don't equal 2 then something is wrong.
Some mobs are not even affected by Caltrops. Like the werewolves.
But your saying that your PETS are tanking an AV and and all you do is resummon them ? You don't have enough heals as a robot traps to even heal them up fast enough to keep them alive.
Your not even at defense cap with SOs and neither are you Pets.
MY current Robot FF build I am defense Cap.. MY pets are defense cap and I have Heal other and Repair and my Pets still die doing a +1 +8 Farms.
I guess in your world the pets have the perfect AI and don't run around all over. Stay where you tell them to stay.

I tell you this.. Prove me wrong.. Show us your SO build lvl 50 Robot Traps that solos AVs. Let me see you do it. I will get a group together for Rom run and have them hold the nictus while you fight Rom solo. Heck forget the last mission I would like to see you do Rom on the computer mission. I would like to see you solo a EB. Or forget all the elite stuff a simple group of +1 +8 Samurai. Why Samurai, simple they do Smash and lethal damage which is the highest defense even SO someone is going to have as it is the most common damage type. So I am even taking it easy on you.. As I mentioned this game is math wrapped around some Graphic. 45% is the defense cap. You have 3 Positional and 7 Type. SOs cannot get you to that number in the way you are describing or pretending to describe.
You have not reinvented the wheel. People smarter then me AND YOU have done the work already. You do not know some magic geometry trick that if you place caltrops at point A and another at point B it makes any mob including AVs defenseless and trapped.

You can't remember because its a lie.. You can't remember the day that you at 10 to 13 levels lower then a AV was able to kill him solo. Not one screen shot. I mean really that is a great pic to have to shut people like myself up when you tell the tall fish tale.
I don't farm either. But if your doing missions with your 50 your bound to get some decent IOs to sell. I mean really if your 50 and are all built on SOs you should have tons of game money.
I will say it again and again.. Your stuff does NOT add up mathematically.
I don't care that your cape drags on the floor causing a wind torrent to blind all that oppose you.. IF it does not add up.. Then it cannot happen.. -

Superspeed and super jump? you may have too many travel powers. Especially since you have ninja run. Do you have the jump jet from GvE edition? If so, you wont need that many travel powers. You can use sprint+ninja run for travel, and the jump jet for when you do need vert mobility.
Since your not going for set bonuses, I would suggest grabbing leadership instead of the travel powers. And stamina, you will want stamina instead of the personal attacks to counteract the resummon cost.
As for how long to get to fifty? Depends. I took a mastermind from 1 to 35 in about a month in issue 6. Now you could do so much faster. The real question is, can you stand playing this combo?

As you can see I cannot get Smash Lethal and Ranged Capped along with Hasten slotted, which would make this a great build for many Task Forces. Sadly Ranged attacks which are NOT smash or Lethal are a BIG issue.
If you could get smash and lethal Capped and get Hail of bullets down to your 35 second recharge it would be nice. Mine is at 45 seconds.
I think your missing the point of IO set bonuses.
Too many things are slotted way to high. Inertial reduction for example is fine being one slotted. How far you gonna jump in a cave mish or building.
Kin powers are pretty fast recharge so having Fulcrum Shift at 9 seconds or 23 seconds does not make a difference when it last 45 seconds.
You want Smash Lethal and Ranged Positional capped at 45% Defense without gimping yourself.
The first build I posted is my current build. I can do the Wall on Cimerora with that build. -

If your just going to level and use Training then DOs and then SOs. Then just slot powers that you see a weakness in.

I don't think you can teach someone how to play the game persay. There is only so much you can do with SOs.
Here is my advice then.
Single Origins (from now on called SO ) are your goal. So Slot your powers with Single Origins enhancements in mind.
Slot a power until you see little results from slotting that type of SO. Slot 2 damage and see what 3 will give you. If you only see a few percentage or tenths of a percent ,then don't slot it.
The usual rule of thumb is 3 SOs of a similar type. More then that and you will get Diminished returns. So pets will be slotted 3 damage, 3 accuracy. Your attacks similar, though you might want to put some endurance reductions in because endurance can be an issues for Masterminds.
Beyond that there isn't much to do unless you jump into Inventions.
Make sure any time you see someone asking to do a respec you jump on it, because you will probably need many. More then what you have as a new player. Having 3 on hand should be your goal.
Reality there is a night and day difference between SOs and set bonus Inventions and even Regular Inventions and Set bonus Inventions. The game is much more enjoyable once you get the concepts of Defense Cap and what set bonuses inventions are for.
Nutshell you cannot put up a blank Mids build and then ask what we think. Think about what ? Are IOs going in there.. Are SOs, DOs Training going in there ?
5 slotting Caltrops with slow or recharge might be too much. But if he is putting IOs in there, then we might be looking at something good.
Respecing is not something that comes along every day. Granted you can do it with 4 players if 2 are just doing it for Merits. But otherwise you might need a full group depending on how borked peoples builds are.
End result the OP is thinking ahead. So he might as well think all the way ahead. Not just half way. Its one build.. No respecs or maybe 1 at most and he / she is done.
Instead of in Phase One of the build I will level from 10 to 25 with this build. At level 25 I will do a respec and work with this build in Phase Two up to level 35 and then do another respec. Then I will go into Phase Three from 35 to 45 and then perform another respec and then finally I will go into my final Phase Four and level to 50 with this build. Unless he is still in SOs, which means he will have a Phase Five when he picks up his IOs and respecs one final time into his IO stage.
Or look at Phase 5 and build for that. People are not gonna notice how much damage you do. They will notice how much you die or how much they need to heal you.
No amount of planning with SOs is going to make that much of a difference. Triage Beacon is doing 98 for heals instead of 107. Pets are doing 50 points of damage instead of 62.
No one will notice anything in between. -

i remember me playing winter event 1 year ago with my merc/traps mm, we were in team, i was sidekicked 10 levels above me, we were fighting some snow bosses. during the fight some ppl leaved/dropped include my boss, therefore most ppl died due to overlevel, i was the last one who stands alive. the next 5-10 minutes i was pounding a boss that was 10-13 levels ABOVE me and killed him. how? caltrops spam, ive blocked junction with it and let my minions slowly tear him apart. 5 ppl were staying dead and didn't went to medics just to see that action of me.
so if you want agro for yourself you just didn't understand the mechanics of /traps.
I will just address those 2 quotes
1. Tankermind is not an extreme build. My build is cheap and doable. Petless I am working on so I will let you know. But I will be honest, I might level to 50 regular way and use the secondary build as pet-less type build. That is cheating as I didn't level the hard way. I do have a petless toon to see how it works. I will probably keep at it to see where the issues are and to keep it fair.
2. I have a bit of an issue with this story. What level where you ? Did you have IO's ? The DPS output of a mob 10 to 13 levels higher then you can pretty much one shot your minions. All mobs have a Ranged attack or a way to get into Melee combat. Even Rikti that have no range combat can TP in and out of Melee Range.
Caltrops will make mobs run but they do turn around and fight even if at range.
So I have to call Tall Tale on this one until you give a bit more facts on this.
What level where you..
What level was your Team Lead.
Did you have IOs , SOs , DOs slotted ?
What level is your Merc Traps now ?
The normal game mechanics just make this impossible. Otherwise you would be doing this all the time and so would everyone else.
As Delta_Strider mentioned unless it was some odd moment in time in which the mob got stuck or something crazy which I have seen happen with AVs as well. Then it wasn't really Merc Trap skill or Player skill. It was a Glitch which makes your point moot really. -

Caltrops is a great power. You're losing a lot of damage, mitigation, and control by putting it at 47 and only putting a Purple in it.
Scorpion Shield as your primary means of mitigation is fine, but remember you have zero Debuff resistance, meaning that all debuffs will be for the listed amount, which is more than enough to cascade you into nothingness should one hit. If it's Dark Embrace or Scorpion Shield, I say you're better off with Dark Embrace.
Web Grenade is a very important power, especially against Bosses and the like. You can definitely hurt yourself by only one-slotting it.
Hell on Earth should mule all your Henchmen Auras. This way you don't hinder your full-time henchmen's slotting badly.
You can get by with less global recharge easily; Hasten is up a lot of the time, and even when it's not your powers typically recharge fast enough to be used every battle. So don' feel like you have to over-slot to fit in as much recharge as possible.
When your saying Debuff Resistance I am assuming the Players personal resistance to effects.
My only disagreement with you ( but not a fight ) is the mind set on Defense Cap.

Yes you are right, that when an AV gets past my Defense sometimes I get slammed. I quickly eat a Green Inspiration if I can. And yes I could get out right killed.
But if you look at your build which you linked. You have nothing at defense cap. You have Smash, Lethal and Energy at 45% Resistance and no resistance for Positional attacks.
Maximum resistance is 75% for Masterminds

My point.
If a +2 Boss threw ( Ranged ) a giant rock that does Smashing damage, you have a chance at 35% Defense ( your build is only 30, but I am giving you the 35% ) you have 58.4% chance to dodge two attacks in a row ( credit to Dechs Kaison )
And you can resist 45% of that damage.
But if that same boss where a Nictus doing a ranged negative damage attack. Your Ranged Defense is 25% and your Negative is 24%. The chance to get hit by the +2 boss is 39% (almost 15% higher!), and it is now more likely that you've been hit by the second swing (37.2% chance to dodge two attacks in a row). Out of five attacks, it is 30% likely that you'll be hit by three or more ( credit to Dechs Kaison )
But now you have ZERO Resistance to Negative damage. So your will get that full hit.
At Defense Cap of 45% that same boss has a 7.8% chance to hit you, which works out so that he's only likley to have hit you by the ninth swing ( credit to Dechs Kaison )
Yes my build has the same issue of Zero resistance to negative, But against that same boss he has a 1 in 9 chance of being hit because I am at Ranged Defense Cap. That is surely better then every other swing.
I think Resistance is a good thing for those that get defenses normally. EG Tanks, Brutes, Scrappers even some Defenders. But for those that have to make a choice. I think the best choice is Defense.
Again I do this. I have tried this. It works. I am more then willing to show anyone that I can solo +1 +8 Sami with no issues, with Traps ALONE.
Not all my builds have all this type of Defense Cap coverage so even my Kin gets Rocked by Rikti Ranged attacks and they do energy. Currently I am only Smash and lethal Capped on him, but I have a build which will get him to Ranged Cap as well.
I have to say I think your out and out wrong with your mindset. Again not a fight, but you need to show me where it works.
You do the math based on the above information. You get hit for Smash damage for 100 and resist 45%. You get 65 points of damage. You can get that every third hit. Lets assume it is only 2 hits out of 9 swings ( Again in your favor ). You get 130 points of damage.
I get hit for that Smash damage on my 9th swing as predicted, with my zero resistance I take 100 points of damage.
Now lets make it several bosses. 2,3,4. Even better lets make it Ranged Negative attack. Now do the math. Never mind you can't because your dead.
Simply I have more of a chance to do DPS without getting hit then you do. You would never be able to drop a trip mine. Might as well not even take it. Aid Other, Aid Self better put a Interrupt IO in that.
Further My Recovery and Triage beacon can out heal any damage Minions and +2 bosses can do. Because the rate of hitting is so low. -

Do not pick up power boost.. It offers nothing for you, everything in Traps is a pet. So your Acid Mortar, Triage Beacon, Force Gen get no benefit. Basically your big powers.
