  1. That dog face is a bit odd. If the face could also have movement it might be a bit better. But after a while of looking at it in game on other players it just looks a bit retarded.

    +4x8 question

    @ Nihilii
Not to be defending Dechs as well, he can do it well enough on his own. But you might have missed when some were mentioning about Malta being one of the tough mob groups to solo on 4/8 with and without incarnates.

I guess Dechs was just showing us that Dark which in the past had the complaint of being weak can do just what many thought was too tough.

    @StrykerX
I have a AR Device that can solo 4/8, I needed Cardiac for endurance issues but beyond that I don't need anything else. But its a range cap hover blaster so I am really limiting the mobs coming against me sometimes just for the fact of being out of melee range.

I think that a player does have to resolve himself to a particular build and play style to accomplish some of these feats. As an example a range cap hover blaster is going to have more success then a range cap blaster that is on the ground. I have seen players complain they didn't like hover, so they have to accept and resolve themselves that against certain moments they might put themselves into a jam.

This is big for players to understand.

This is why Provoke is so important or maybe I should say very helpful for a mastermind when it makes sense to pick it up for the build your playing. This is why Tankermind builds are what they are.

    Beam Rifle!!!

I went Beam Nrg. Standard Hover Blaster range cap build. Its fun but I'm not nuts about it. I enjoy my AR Device more. Maybe because I can do stuff with my AR Device I couldn't do before because lack of build knowledge.

I do agree that on a good team Disintegrate is useless. Things just die way too fast. I do enjoy when I get a Disintegrate off along with a snipe to get a auto spread in a large group, then followed by the cone. Then I can see a bunch of mobs dropping.

I like the look of Overcharge.

Overall its okay set. I think they should have incorporated Disintegrate into the powers themselves instead. This would have made flow much better and not put players in the conundrum of trying to get Disintegrate off or wasting the time to get Disintegrate off just to have mobs killed before it can even take effect. If anything this is useful more in AV type of fights or during BAF or LAM where you get a steady flow of mobs coming in to aid the boss.

For a new player this will be fun and exciting set. For an experience build player ( min/maxer ) the setup process to get Disintegrate going will be annoying.

    New Archtype

I would like a mastermind in which your one pet gets buffed and becomes stronger and stronger with each upgrade. Basically 1 super pet.

    OR

How about a sidekick.. Again same concept as the pet but he, she, it levels up as you do. Its one level lower then you. You basically use the costume creator to create the look for your sidekick.

Sidekicks would come in different categories. Tank, Scrapper, Controller, Blaster, ETC.

Maybe you could control the sidekick. For example your a Martial Arts toon with a MA sidekick. You click a hold power in your tray and your sidekick then goes and puts or attempts to put your target into a full nelson or whatever this now allows you to hit that target for extra damage.

Maybe you want to be a fire blaster demon with a fire tank or brute demon side kick. 2 Soldier range blasters where instead of you doing full auto your side kick opens up with some large machine gun rambo style.

Nutshell they do the standard npc fight chain until you command them to do some key attacks.

Another thing that would be nice is if your IO set bonuses would effect them as well. This way if you wanted to do 2 range blasters maybe your sidekick might start off with inherit range defense that you can improve with IO set bonuses.

OR yet again allow you to slot IOs in the pet power. Pretty much like slotting in your build. But they might be limited in bonuses or something.

    I'm looking at your build.
I will give you the perma hasten at 121.5 seconds. But I don't get perma chrono when I see a duration of 30 seconds and a recharge of 86 seconds. What numbers are not being included into this build I am missing ? Did you mean Farsight maybe ?

    +4x8 question

I think people have to be a bit clear when they discuss 4/8 setting. I was doing 4/8 on my Robot Traps Prior to Incarnates. I do not have an issue with the Alpha slot but I do have an issue with anything else when discussing 4/8 setting or AV fights based on your Arch Type.

Also a bit of common sense has to go along with reading when a certain AT is posting doing a 4/8 setting, fighting an AV or doing the Pylon test. As an example I do not expect to see an empath defender doing these feats without the use of a combat pet, either temp or incarnate wise.

Conversely as an example ( not looking to pick a fight ) I do have issue when someone says I can do 4/8 but they never mention they needed to be fully incarnated and required incarnate powers even to complete the feat. For something like that the player is clearly giving out false information boost the prowess of the AT he is discussing which is not right. Nothing would piss me off more then to find out I get to level 50 with the build posted that does not have incarnates listed just to find out I can't do what was described by the author of the build.

I find nothing at all wrong using incarnates even for an solo AV fight regardless of the AT but at least be honest enough to say you need the power so others know what they are getting into.

Finally I consider 4/8 not to include the tough mobs that pretty much everyone has issues with even on teams. So Malta, Longbow, Carnies and
Devouring Earth fall into that category.

So nutshell I read 4/8 setting on a build I expect maybe Alpha incarnate but nothing more and I do not expect the "tough mobs". If its an odd build or a known weaker AT then I would expect anything goes but I would like the poster to be clear as well in all fairness.

But this all falls back to understanding the game mechanics. Once you understand some of the numbers or at least what you should be seeing for numbers in a build you know if the person can do what they are reporting they did.
  9. Just disagree with the Triage Beacon comments.

I enjoy the 300% regeneration it offers on top of the 260 I already have from set bonuses and then when I place 2 I can get my Regeneration up beyond 800%. Of course my pets getting a boost of 600% is nothing to complain about as well, this includes my team mates as well.

The only power I would skip is Detonator because you can't slot anything in it to make it much better.

Click on his data link and open it up in a new tab. Highlight the whole URL and copy and paste it into NOTEPAD ( not Wordpad or Word as it might mark up the data with unwanted stuff and screw it all up ).

Now make a copy of one of your old mids builds ( I say make a copy so we don't accidentally mess up the original ). Open up that copy of your mids build into NOTEPAD also. So now you should have 2 Notepad files open with data chunk of your build and the data from the URL you copied moments ago.

Now what you need to do is copy and paste the data chunk from the URL and replace the data chunk in your build you have open. The next thing you need to do is replace the 3 sets of numbers at the beginning of your mids build with the 3 sets of numbers in the URL you copied.

You should copy the data chunk after this line in the URL HEX&dc=

    |MxDz;1499;669;1338;HEX;||DATA CHUNK from URL goes here|

The data chunk is pasted right after the 2 vertical lines ( pipes ) in your open copy of a Mids build. There is a vertical line ( pipe ) at the end of the data chunk. Make sure you DO NOT highlight that and delete it as you need it. So you data chunk should sit between this vertical lines. 2 in the front and 1 at the end.

The highlighted numbers is what you need to copy and paste to replace the 3 sets of numbers at the beginning of your mids build. This is how your build is going to start in the URL.

    Quote:
    http://www.cohplanner.com/mids/download.php?uc=1567&c=702&a=1404&f=HEX&dc=Data Chunk
The bold numbers is what you need to replace in your build.

    |MxDz;1499;669;1338;HEX;||

As you can see your 3 sets of numbers are separated by semicolons in your mids build you copied. So 1567 goes where 1499 is and 702 goes where 669 is and finally 1404 goes where 1338 is.

I am trying to make this very simple to understand and somewhat repetitive just so others less tech savvy players can follow along and do it if needed.

So in total you copying a data chunk and 3 sets of numbers from the URL you copied and pasting them to replace the data in your copied Mids build.

Once this is all done just save that copied build of mids. Do not do Save As or rename it.
    Just click save.
It will save it with the old name it had. You can rename it afterwards if you like.

It will now open in Mids
  11. If you don't mind redraw you could have a mix of Huntsman and Bane and still be defense capped or even Huntsman / Bane / Perma pets with some defenses. All depends on what your looking to do.

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=248244
  12. @ Valorin - Both builds are the same. I know someone might say how can you tell if you can't open it. But you can. You need to copy and paste the Url into notepad and then open up another MIDs build with notepad and replace the Hex and the 3 sets of numbers separated by semicolons. Then save that as a mids build. Once you open them both up in notepad you will see.

But your first build or even the second based on what your saying is not defense capped because you forgot about Cloaking Device suppression which is a common mistake.

It will give them a bit of defense, but nothing much.

I can tell you have I have a Perma pet, Range Cap hover blaster Huntsman. I went full Arachnos pets ( PPP included ) even with incarnate ( of course not perma ) for thematic purposes. I picked up Barrier for them and its great. Its so great I can solo malta group on 4/8 setting with this guy. Its a really fun build.

    Hunstman / Bane mix
    No pets
Defense cap - Actually with Cloaking device suppressed your at 49% defense cap wise.
Bit endurance heavy will need musculature or cardiac to make it fun and not need a tray blue inspirations.

  14. @RicVasquez ( I hope that isn't your real name ) don't spam the boards with numerous posts about the same thing across each Arch Type. Take a minute or two and read up what they do what people are posting. That will definitely answer your questions, especially here on the Brute forum. Its like going to the Tanker forum and asking for a Tanker build, not saying that Brutes can't just making a point here guys.

Basically your giving off the impression you just want the answers without doing any of the work. If your new to the game, take your time and feel the builds out. Just about everyone levels up on regular game dropped enhancers until the higher levels or mid 40s. So for that the sticky with build info is gonna be good enough until you decide and have the money to start experimenting on invention sets.
  15. Gonna echo what has been said. But will add what game setting we talking about ? Personally I start at 4/8 and then work my way down, because 1/1 anyone can do. I would also assume you have access to the invention system otherwise your SOL for doing anything crazy.

Really any primary with decent AOE and Energy Manipulation will work extremely well. The simple reason is it will allow for Range cap defense and also the ability to pick up Aid self relatively easy. What more can a Blaster want.

As far as build wise you can just search for any Energy Manipulation MIDs build and swap out the primary for anything you like.

What I can say my personal type of Blaster is always Range cap, Hover Blaster. This way I can be out of range. To me it never made sense to be on the ground when your soloing 4/8 because one mezz and you can be screwed. At least mezzed above ground your still limited to range attacks which will always be your greatest defense numbers.

As for builds honestly there are enough here on the forums and unless you understand the game mechanics your going to be at the mercy of someone else. That someone else might not have a clue about builds so unless they get challenged your gonna waste your time on crappy build that will never work out. A simple example is when people post up builds labeling them as fully defense capped and they have PFF active not knowing how PFF works. Want to understand the game read the threads in my Sig.

Finally don't try to re-invent the wheel. You are not going to discover that secret build that no one else has found out about over the past 7 years. So I really do suggest just take the time to look around and find threads with a bunch of info about a certain build.
  16. @ Draeth Darkstar & Vauluur - Was thinking same afterwards. I have it on huntsman build and it super helpful. I might also have to switch it on my Robot Traps as well.

@ Kenji_Naginata - On my Robot Traps works well. On Robot FF I think because of Force Bubble it gets a bit confusing. Force bubble is knocking everyone back which is causing the pets to move into range, so it is causing some disharmony. This is why I think with Soul mastery route I might be a better flow. I know OG works well as I have it on my Robot Traps as well and other toons. The sudden decrease in attacks is very noticeable, especially on a 4/8 setting.

But asking back your saying you have your assault bot target the center. That means your assault bot is out the bodyguard mode equation correct. I'm asking so as to be clear on it. Sounds like a acceptable route to me. I just need to fix my numkey pad binds, they are all screwy in the sense they only command all the pets. I think its a mac thing.
  17. I have a DP Traps that can solo 4/8 so how bad can it be. Am I clearing a map in 4 minutes. No.. But am I surviving yep.
  18. Yea would be nice for perma pet build types.

Provoke alone will not help out. You have to combine it with another attack, especially a AOE type attack where the Aggro can combine or add up with each other.

I reworked the 2nd build a bit more and this is what I might go with. It allows for Musculature. Reppu answered my Edict of the master question so everyone is at defense cap and not at 50%.

So I am thinking Musculature and Reactive for extra damage increase.
I think Oppressive Gloom combined with Repulsion Bomb at PBAOE range is nice.
I'm thinking Rebirth from destiny for the extra heal + regeneration.

  20. Title pretty much says it all.

Edict of the Master 5% Defense, is that for just the pets or do I get the 5% also ?
  21. I am noticing that my first 2 attacks are not going off when I am held.
  22. Going to have to fix the Hami choice as it does not work anymore.
  23. I can slot the Vanguard Rifle so it has to be because I purchased it.
  24. Here is a second build but I swapped out MU Mastery for Soul Mastery and removed Force bubble for Oppressive Gloom. Power set wise nothing has changed.

Part of me is a bit scared of removing Force Bubble because solo it does help out and it is a good power to have sometimes even on team. Blocking a path during a BAF for example makes you king.

But Oppressive Gloom really does do the same in a sense as Force Bubble ( sounds like I am trying to convince myself here ). I use on my Robot Traps and on some defenders and I personally find it amazing as well.

But now the good thing is the endurance is so reduced now that I can go Musculature which gives me a damage increase.

One gripe is that Night fall is a smaller arc then static discharge and static discharge is a cool effect ( reminds me of star wars ).

  25. Here is a Robot Force Field build I am working on. Its a work in progress and I am really trying to tighten it up to a point where someone can't find much or very little to complain about.

Basically your personal Positional defenses are at 33% to 37% and the bubble from Protector Bots will give you another 12%. Capping out your defenses.

I have and Edict of the Master slotted which offers another 5% defenses but I don't know if its for everyone or pets only. If it is for everyone then you and the pets are at 50% defenses otherwise your pets are at 50% and your at 45%.

You have a decent heal in Aid Self and Aid Other for the pets.
You have a decent number of attacks
You have a decent combo with provoke and Electric fences.
You have another good combo with Repulsion bomb with a decent now working proc from absolute amazement and Photon Grenade with another AOE with a immobilize proc which also works well in conjunction with your other holds.

The biggest issue I find with it is that Cardiac is a MUST and even then your cutting it close. On top when not needed I looked to slot many powers with recovery bonuses as well because the endurance drain was that much
