Huntsman or Bane for leveling?

I'm currently lvl 31 and I feel like its time to dust off my SoA. I need to do a total respec but I'm not sure what direction to do. I do a lot of soloing but I don't avoid teaming, especially with a team friendly toon like this is.

I'm a big fan of the Huntsman.

I second Huntsman, but both play great. You could get a million different replies here based on other's preference when all is said and done.

The real question is, whats your play style?

Does the Huntsman build do anything really well? Granted, I haven't played one so I can't really state for a fact, but it LOOKS like they're a weaker AR blaster.

My play style varies between characters I play. I suppose I do tend to play more scrappers than blasters, but I really love my blasters and Corr's too.

If you solo a lot, Bane is probably better at lower level without sets.

Huntsman attacks really fast with Single Shot 0.9s and Burst 1.0s. Damage-wise, it's decent but you should carry two Assault leaderships.

Between Venom Grenade, Surveillance, AH Procs and double Assault, your Huntsman bring a lot of damage to the team.

Bane is not bad. Bane is basically a "superior" Stalker IMO. It's not everyone's cup of tea. I enjoy Bane a lot but I usually use my Huntsman build for hard TFs and itrials.

What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.

In simple terms, if you enjoy playing melee toons...Bane may be the way to roll. If you enjoy ranged ATs, Huntsman can be an option.
Since the introduction of SoA, Ive thought of AR Blasters as being a weaker version of a Huntsman. A Huntsman can have buffs, debuffs, solid damage, pets etc depending on how its built. Its basically a Wolf Spider that has the versatility of dipping into the Bane or Crab power sets. Ill link a thread that helped me make my Huntsman way back when and let you decide for yourself. Good luck and happy hunting...

About the only thing a Huntsman is missing is a sniper attack.

I mostly agree with this. I haven't tinkered with Crab or Huntsman mainly due to how impressed I was with Bane immediately after the level 24 respec, so I can't say how one fairs over the other with personal experience, but if you wanted a mainly melee character but still have some ranged attacks, those are available to Banes as well. I took Mace Beam and Mace Blast to have some options in situations where I may not be able to get into melee range. In fact, if it wasn't for Mace Beam, I wouldn't have nearly faired so well against that Marauder or Statesman EBs.

If you don't mind redraw you could have a mix of Huntsman and Bane and still be defense capped or even Huntsman / Bane / Perma pets with some defenses. All depends on what your looking to do.

I have a SoA that has a Bane build and a Huntsman build and even though I mostly play ranged ATs I preferred the Bane for solo leveling. The Huntsman is better for teaming though, at least until you get Crowd Control slotted up and enough defense to handle jumping into large spawns. A Huntsman is also probably better on SOs (I started IOing my Bane out in the 20s) since your defense powers favor Ranged defense... a Bane feels a bit squishy until you start adding some melee defense set bonuses or stack multiple defense powers (which is very hard on the blue bar without recovery bonuses). If you are going to frankenslot or use mostly SOs while leveling then I'd suggest making a Bane build and a Huntsman build and using whichever seems best for the given situation. If you are going to invest more heavily in IOs I'd go Bane because they rock once you get their defense and recharge up.

Whichever way you go I'd also suggest doing tip missions and using your first two alignment merits to get a Miracle +Recovery IO. All those toggles tend to be hard on your blue bar and it just gets worse once you add in the high endurance attacks like grenades, Shatter, or Crowd Control.

Oh god no... snipe is almost useless in this game. You want to use it to pull? Put +range and take cardiac +range. :P

Centriole Exposure Enhancements and Cardiac Alpha Slot abilities are end-game strategies; my Huntsman is level 32, and I am not willing to sprint past content by power-leveling for that. Simply adding Range enhancements sacrifices too much damage potential.

I don't want to use snipes for pulling, I want to use them to take down designated targets.

Snipe's damage isn't that high to take down a designated target, unless that target is a +0 minion. If it's just a +0 minion, you can easily nuke it to death with Build Up + whatever aoe you have.

So Snipe 1. a very slow attack that costs quite a bit of endurance 2. damage is not high enough to take down any serious threat. It is only good for pulling sometimes.
