  1. I suspect this idea has come up in some of the giant threads on the new booster pack, but I thought I'd toss it in as a suggestion here.

When they get around to power customization for travel powers, they should make the ninja run an alternate animation for combat jump, superjump, and superspeed. I imagine it could work the same way as the alternate animations for martial arts and super strength. Of course, you would need to have purchased the booster pack before the option would be visible, just like you need to buy it before those new swords become visible when customizing your weapon.

32 rounds down. A level 30 IO would work just fine if you exemp to 29.

I don't think it's practical to change set IO's at this point, but I've often wondered if they made a mistake when they released the IO system. Commons are only available in multiples of five. They could easily have done the same with set IO's. But they chose not to, and I doubt if that will change.

Where are some of the gaps? I think the most important missing tag is the lowbie friendly one. Higher level players can always exemp down, but lowbies can seldom go up safely. There is a "my level" option in the search now, so people can choose missions that won't exemp or sk them. That isn't quite the same, though. Custom enemies are level 1-54, that doesn't mean a level 1 has a snowball's chance of completing the mission.

The "for hire" tag is missing. I rather like that one. It fits in between the heroic and villainous morality options. On the other hand, "neutral" is a morality option. Was that always there?

I don't care about the server tags, but maybe other people do?

There could be a lot more genre tags.

    What do you all think?

Probably because of the way ParagonWiki is organized, but it is there. It is also documented in game. If you talk to the mission architect instructor, she will tell you. In fact, that entire dialog is on Paragon Wiki here.

You can also find the same information in one of the guides in ParagonWiki. Look for the tricks with text section.

And, of course, the ultimate answer to the question "Why isn't this information in the wiki?" is "because you didn't put it there yet."
  5. Congratulations! Quick, somebody get this man a monocle!

  7. Playing the market doesn't create money; it just moves money around. Farming creates money. Having the right build and the right map is part of it, but having the mental fortitude and the spare time to do the same thing over and over and over and over and over for hours on end day after day after day is the most important thing. Personally, I can't stand it.

Farmers are all about speed. Marketeers are all about patience.
  8. I'm pretty sure I have a level 50 Numina Heal enhancement, already crafted, up for sale. They don't seem undersupplied, though.

For basics about how the market works, I suggest reading a guide or two from the market guide sticky at the top of this forum.
  9. Maybe it would work better to have the event start with a low frequency then ramp it up gradually.

Well there we go. We have a challenge. 9:30 a.m. A weekday, I assume? Which server? Of course, you have to be there to watch him do it. And nobody said anything about the Posi TF. But a full team at 9:30 a.m? Go ahead and watch him do it.

Throwing in Posi is just a smoke screen. I wouldn't run that TF again if you gave me $10. Getting people to play lousy content has nothing to do with anything. Getting a full team of people is the challenge, and I'm sure PK will take up the challenge as soon as you finish specifying the details and commit to being online at that time yourself.
  11. I've never had my machine crash when accessing the market, but I do sometimes get a long delay before anything shows up in the market interface. What I do is to switch the option from "show buying & selling" to "show all". That seems to clear it up instantly. I'm guessing that downloading the data from the server was not the bottleneck, it's filtering the list to see if there are bids/items.

Of course they thought of it, but they haven't done it and we have no reason to think they ever will. The vault is on the scrap heap of abandoned ideas waiting to be forgotten, and I think that's a shame.

    The forgotten

I'm very happy to see some new dev choice AE missions finally appear. A few weeks ago the lack of those would have been at the top of my list. We have a few guest arcs too, which is awesome.

When the Arenas first came out there was big talk about having tournaments and prizes and opportunities to play against the devs and so on... and then the arena was pretty buggy and they were busy with CoV, then resources were shifted to other projects, and it just faded away.

The gladiator stuff in the Arena is actually kind of cool. I haven't done it in ages, but it's a neat idea. As I recall, there were a few bugs and a couple of serious balance issues, and I don't believe it was ever revisited.

I'm not going to let them off the hook on the Vault. From their explanations it sounded like scope creep. Fine. Cut the project back to a manageable level and get on it. It doesn't need to make coffee and balance the national budget. Just have a website which displays in-game stuff. That would be a fun and useful tool, and by trying to make it more useful and more cool they wound up with nothing.

I suppose base raids are under development, and I appreciate that, but it's a feature that was supposed to have shipped with CoV. It's late. Same with the CoP. I know there were technical problems. Solve them. That's what you do. That's certainly what I do at my job.

Does anyone else remember when they announced that each AT would have a dedicated redname to work on their issues and be a liaison to the rest of the dev team?

Heh, does anyone else remember the first time they said that they were very sorry that some things had been missed in the patch notes, but they were going to change their process so it didn't happen again? Statesman had a big post about it after one of the first patch notes. How about the second time they posted the same basic thing? Or the third? How about the time they said they would include explanations of why changes were made in the patch notes, along with the changes?

In all fairness, I think the patch notes are more readable than they used to be, though I haven't actually gone back to compare.

Didn't Positron say that he really wanted to get the Calvin Scott TF into Ouroboros? Maybe he still wants to and just hasn't been able to work it in, but I think it's more likely that he has just forgotten.

There are probably other things that have been forgotten, but I can't remember them.
  16. I pm'd Avatea. I included a link to this thread. Maybe seeing your post will help shame them into action.
  17. I like the sound of this. I'd also like to have more skeletal parts.
  18. I'm reading a book right now called One Hundred Essential Things You Didn't Know You Didn't Know: Math Explains Your World, by John Barrow. It's a collection of short essays by a mathematician about math in every day life.

One example is about collectible cards. Suppose there are 50 cards, and you want one of each. If you buy one, then you have a 0/50 chance of getting one you already have, and a 50/50 chance of getting one you don't already have. When you buy your second card, there is a 1/50 chance you already have it. When you buy a third card, there is a 2/50 chance you already have it, and so on.

When you are trying to get that last card for your set, the odds are 49/50 that any card you get will be one you already have. In the end, you need to buy something like 225 cards on average in order to get a full set of 50.

Where it gets interesting is what happens if you and a friend are both collecting, and you swap with each other when you get duplicates. Common sense says that you and your friend will be able to get complete sets more quickly if you cooperate than if you each build a collection in isolation. It's a savings of 78 cards each, according to Barrow. With more friends you save more cards.

Collecting salvage and recipes is more complicated of course, but the same principle should apply: trying to IO a character using nothing but your own drops is crazy hard. Being able to swap with other players makes it easier. Adding more people to the pool of folks who are swapping items should make it easier still.

Now, if I followed the math correctly (and the odds of that aren't great ) then the number of cards you save when you swap with friends goes up by a smaller and smaller amount as you add more friends, so eventually the addition of friends to trade with doesn't help any more. I have a feeling we're not at that point with our markets. Merging the markets will probably make it easier for people to get stuff.

    Sounds good to me.
  19. True. I just wanted to mention it because a lot of people seem to assume that it's RP vs economics, and that's not the case.

AFAIK, the only reason the devs have ever given is economic, and they have never expressed that reasoning in a way that makes any sense.

It's possible that they will merge the markets, but they want to surprise us with it, to cut down on the marketeering. I don't think that makes any sense either, though, and it seems very unlikely given the way they've described GR so far.

Someone, I think it was Ex Libris, seemed to suggest that she thought it was more fun to have two different markets that behaved differently than it would be to have one big market that behaved uniformly. I don't know if that represented an official dev point of view, or just her own feelings as a player. I will point out that most of the people who find the market fun are in favor of a merger.
  20. As far as I am concerned, the RP favors a merged market. You just have to keep in mind that the player might know things that the character does not. That shouldn't be a problem for role players.

The player might know that the markets are merged, but the character will believe the Wentworth's spokesperson who says that they are not, except for that one time that some things fell off the back of a truck, and there was that one rogue employee, but he has been fired and that couldn't possibly happen again.

Do roleplayers worry about the fact that the market is cross server? I've never heard anyone complain about it.

You know, that might be the reason why they aren't merged. The devs know it would increase the rate at which people acquired teh shinies, and they don't want us getting any shinier any faster than we already are.
  22. I think this forum has too many stickies. Some of them need to be cleaned up. For example:

Mission Architect: Player Guides!: The original post was never updated to include the guides, and many of the links are broken now anyhow.

Proof Reading & Optional Testing: The person offering this service went on a nine month hiatus from the game. The thread no longer serves any purpose.

Mission Architect: Player Guides!: Not only does this thread suffer from all the problems of the other stickied thread with the same title, but it's redundant as well.

Dev’s Choice: For Your Consideration: I'm not sure this thread was ever useful, though it looks like we are getting new Dev Choice missions again. I'm still not sure about this thread, though. Does Dr. Aeon read it? Does anyone?

Size Matters - making the most of 100k: This seems like a perfectly nice guide. I don't think it needs to be stickied, though. It should be moved to the guides forum and then linked from the sticky about player guides,

MA Investigation 1 - Begins Wednesday: The game is over. No need for a sticky any more.

Dev's Choice: Becoming the Chosen One!: We have two of these as well. The actual post is useful, but we don't need it twice. Can they be merged? Or just flip a coin and unsticky one. I don't think we'll suffer terribly if we lose half the commentary on that post.

Issue 15 Mission Architect Badge Changes: What's done is done. I don't think this needs to be stickied any more, do you?

Mission Architect: Player Resources!: Maybe this info could be rolled into the sticky about player guides? Make it a Guides And Resources thread?

Transferring Missions from Test to Live!: Another duplicate. I guess that came from moving test server threads over to the live forums after I14, huh? It's a fine post, but there's no need for two of them.

Quick Note on Republishing Stories from Test: This doesn't need to be a thread of its own. It fits in just fine with the sticky about transferring missions from test to live.

Whew, that's a lot of stickies! I'm going to pm a mod and ask them to consider tidying things up.

I'd like that, but it would also be neat if you could click on the door of the bus when it is paused at a bus stop and get a pop-up menu listing all of the neighborhoods in that zone. If you click one, then the bus will teleport you to the bus stop nearest the marker for that neighborhood.

I think that would be especially nice for new players. Sometimes a contact will tell you to go to a particular neighborhood and you have no way of knowing where in the zone that is.
