  1. It was a mixed team. I don't remember the leader's AT or faction. Other people on the team were getting merits. I brought it up on team chat and some people didn't respond at all, but the ones who did were all receiving merits at a normal rate.

Anyhow, after that raid, I hung out for a bit, solo, earning normal rewards, then joined another team for the next raid. There was some overlap in membership, but it was a different team. Exact same thing happened. As soon as I joined the team, I stopped getting rewards. Halfway through the raid, I disconnected. When I got back on, I just stayed solo. I earned normal rewards that way.

After the raid was over, I hooked up with a friend just for a few seconds. On that team, I was earning normal rewards again.

I guess it's just a weird bug. Frankly, I hope I'm never in a situation to study it again, but if I am I'll try to experiment some more.
  2. Ran into something funny tonight. I was on a team raiding the Rikti mothership, and I didn't receive a single Merit. Or inspiration. Or enhancement. I wasn't even getting influence. Has anyone seen that happen before?

I'm level 50, so I don't expect to earn xp. I don't think I was exemped down, but even if I was that shouldn't cancel all rewards. If anything, it should double my inf. And I was certainly defeating things. I was on a scrapper, and I was whaling away at Rikti, and doing damage, and defeating them. But I didn't get a single reward of any type.

After the raid was over, I went off and solo'd a couple more Rikti. Nothing.

I quit the team and solo'd one more Rikti: bam, I got influence, prestige, and an inspiration. The first rewards I'd seen all night.

I'm a tiny bit miffed about the merits, because I really want to buy the rest of the costume pieces, but mostly I'm just puzzled. I've never heard of that happening before.

EDIT: And yes, I do have the Vanguard badge thingy. I've earned merits before. I have some merits on me right now. I just couldn't earn any during the raid. Not one. Other people on my team did earn merits, and plenty of them.
  3. The one thing to look out for is names. I've been finding that my name is usually already taken on the new server when I move a character. You get a free rename token. If you move off of one server, and then come back later, there is no guarantee that someone won't have taken your name while you were gone.

Yes, the market stuff goes with you. I don't use the vault much, but I'm pretty sure that has been confirmed each of the million times someone has transferred a character during the past couple of years. The only stuff that doesn't transfer is the supergroup stuff, and the list of friends on the old server. Global friends and chat channels go with you, along with all of your personal possessions.

There is no list of servers by population, but you do get a list of servers by load every time you log in, which is close enough. The server at the top of the list is the one you last logged in to. The rest of the list is sorted by load, lightest at the top and heaviest at the bottom.
  5. At the moment, blueside prices are 110,000/cane. That's actually a bit lower than it has been most of this month. Usually the event opens with a price spike followed by a crash, but so far it looks like we're skipping the spike.

Try to pull 1 or 2 of the baddies out of the main group so that I can take them on one at a time or in smaller groups.
That's exactly how I play single player games. I like sniper weapons and stealth abilities. I like to explore and sneak around and pick off bad guys one by one.

I used to do the same thing in CoH. I played it just like I would a single player game and it worked just fine. It was slow but steady. I rarely died. I had fun, but I never teamed. Then I discovered the Zen of Scrapping: fight like a rabid blender. That was much faster and much more fun.

These days I mostly team with the same bunch of folks. We have a pretty simple playbook:

Plan A: rush in and smash stuff

That works 90% of the time. It's fun, easy, and effective. If it fails, we move on to plan B.

Plan B: rush in and smash stuff

That actually works. After the damage we did the first time around, we can usually finish them off without using tactics. On the rare occasion when that doesn't pan out, we resort to...

Plan C: wait for the tank to go first, then rush *in the same direction* and everyone smash *the same enemy spawn*

That works better than having the blaster go in first with rain of fire, and then everyone else run in different directions into different spawns.

It's pretty rare that we resort to plan D or E, which I guess would be pulling single mobs away from the spawn or herding the spawn into a better location. We do that when we need to. There are only a few encounters in the game that would require even more advanced tactics, and frankly we just don't bother with them.

CoH is a pretty easy game. You can make it harder than it needs to be if you want, but your teammates aren't going to stand around waiting for you. It's a fast and furious game. That may not sound like your cup of team, but I suggest you give it a try. Scrapperlock can be a fun and glorious thing.

    mrc?

I have no idea what they could have meant by that, but for other abbreviations and terminology, you might find this page helpful:

Yes, there were definitely people complaining that the visuals caused health problems. I couldn't tell you why the devs changed the visuals, but it was always my impression that they made the change because of the complaints about headaches and nausea.

For those who weren't around, the original sonic graphics weren't just a different color, they were a different visual FX. It was like being surrounded by rings that were rotating in different directions. Never bothered me, but I don't doubt that some people found it nauseating.

At the risk of injecting logic into a very entertaining thread, you are seriously underestimating your income. If you are interested in purples and PVP IO's, then you must already be level 50. I would expect a level 50 to earn more than 3 mill after playing for an hour.

You aren't just deleting all of your drops, or vendoring rare salvage or something, are you? If you play for 2 hours a day for a year, I expect you're going to get a purple recipe or two as drops. How does that affect your math?

Second, if you run two task forces per day, then you will earn merits. Random rolls are a significant source of extra income which is not included in your calculation.

Bottom line: yes, it takes a long time to earn the rare stuff. That's how the devs like it. But it does not take as long as you make it seem.

    MA Mondays!

I know what you mean. I expect to have a sudden influx of free time come January as well. I'm not sure what's involved in "running" the event. I can certainly show up consistently and shout in a few channels to put together a team. But if you'd like to pick it back up, then I'm happy to defer to you. One way or another, I'd like to get back into the AE next month.
  14. He is certainly very tough. If you can't find a teammate, you can always find a Shivan.

    MA Mondays!

I was thinking I would do it at a regular time, and whoever wanted to show up was welcome to. I have an idea for an SS/WP tank, so I can solo if I have to.

    MA Mondays!

I take it this event has fallen by the wayside?

I was planning to start a new character in January and only run AE missions until 50. I'd like to run all the Dev Choice missions, Guest Author missions, and contest winners. I'd be happy to run missions written by Championites too.

If I'm on and running AE missions at a regular time, like Mondays from 9-11 pm Eastern, are there folks who would like to join me?
  17. As I said in the other thread, I like the idea of cycling through the origins but targeting different themes.

The upcoming mutant pack could be animals (monstrous bird head, talon gloves, feathers, fins, tentacle-ish arms, etc. Maybe a loping beast run power).

Then back around to tech origin. This time, instead of cyborgs, do steam punk. The possibilities are endless.

Magic again, this time with an undead flair. I'd love to see really good transparent skeletal parts.

    Also, teaming rules.
I team almost all the time. It just isn't very much time. Some people play 80 hours/week. Some people play 80 hours/year. People tend to measure xp based on how many levels they earn per day, but that's only partially dependent on the rate of xp. The other half of the equation is playtime/day, and the devs can't control that.
  19. Ahhh, I see. Thank you.
  20. I hadn't seen the Umbral build before, so I've been looking it over. I noticed there is an Achilles Heel proc in GC, but a Fury of the Gladiator proc in GD. Is there a difference between them? The Achilles isn't unique, and last I looked it was a heck of a lot easier to get hold of. Is there something I'm missing, or could both powers have the Achilles proc?
  21. That sounds like a toy.

Anyhow, I finally got around to rolling up a Warshade. I'm having a great time, but I thought I'd compare notes to you veterans and maybe get a little advice.

I'm closing in on level 25. I've been running the Kheldian story arcs, with a team of friends. We out-leveled one arc before I could start it, but otherwise that's working well.

I find myself spending most of my time in Nova form. The attacks recharge a little too slowly for me to make a smooth attack chain, but the damage is still impressive. I should experiment more with the order I fire attacks in; that might help.

When things get bad, like if the tank goes down or I get separated from the team, I'll drop into Dwarf form and just try to survive as much aggro as I can grab. Damage output in that form feels really weak to me.

I haven't gotten the hang of the double mire thing yet. Sometimes I'll follow the tank in while I'm in human form, hit the mire, switch to dwarf, hit the mire, switch to Nova and... nothing is left standing. I missed the whole fight.

I've been thinking of Human form as a Swiss army knife. Recall friend. Teleport foe. Mob stuck in a wall and we can't target it? I have a pbaoe toggle. Need to stack a hold? I can do that. Stacking disorients? I can help with that too.

Looking to the future, I'd like to make dwarf form as sturdy as possible, so I can survive my emergency tanking duties. I'd like to make Nova output as much damage as possible, because that's my primary contribution to the team. I'm not seeing a lot of use for Human form in my future, except for the occasional jack-of-all-trades bit.

I don't generally min/max or worry much about set bonuses, but I was playing around with mid's and it looked like I could soft-cap ranged defense with a bunch of Zephyr's and Mako's. Does that sound right? It seems like that would make the nova form sort of godlike.

So, how far off are my first impressions? Any advice for the next 25 levels?
  22. I expect it will be like the banner event (but easier). At first there will be a ton of people doing it in the more populated zones, so it's always easy to succeed. After a while, hardly anyone will want to bother with it and it will be much tougher to gather enough firepower to pull it off.

When it comes to holiday events, the devs do not subscribe to the "always leave them wanting more" philosophy.

I like this idea. It may be too late to influence the next booster pack, really. Jay has probably been working on it for weeks already. But I do hope we see an animal pack someday. I'm especially interested in an eagle-like head, and talons as a glove option. Feathers instead of fur. A beast run, like the ninja run but loping on all fours, would be a great power to go with it. If they finally animate the tails that should probably be for everyone though, not just people who buy the pack.

Assuming they cycle through the origins again, what's after the mutant pack? Technology? We already did cyborgs. Next time: steampunk!

After that would be magic. Last time we mostly got wizardy type things. Next time I'd like to see more of an undead theme, with see through skeletal pieces. Maybe a long robe that covers your feet, and the travel power could be a version of sprint that makes it look like you're hovering just off the ground as you move, like a ghost. Oh, right, not robes. Well, other ghostly looking stuff anyhow.

It feels slow to me because of my limited time. Then again, I have always been a bit slow. I have been playing since launch and have only 3 level 50's.
Yeah, I got my fourth level 50 this fall. It takes me about one year of steady playing to hit level 50. You won't see me complain that the level speed is too fast. I did outlevel one of the early Kheldian arcs on my new Warshade, but I don't mind flashing back for that.
  25. I liked my ice blaster against Hellions. They're weak to cold damage. Igneous are weak to cold and smashing, and they drop arcane salvage, but those guys stomped me flat.
