Powersink would keep your end up if your build is tight. Otherwise if you can spare to have it in your build I'd take both. But I'm the type who's found almost every power choice in each power set to be worthy picking aside from shadow punch.

Did you get the same error when you copied to the test server? I was able to access the screen to see the vast array of beta servers but didn't have access.
-
Ahh yes the civilians, talk about a major brain fart! Too bad they don't have civilians to list months since creation but hours will do fine! Thanks again everyone!

I know we have badges to tell how long we've subscribed to the account but is there any emote to find out the age of a toon? For example guild wars you type /age and it gives you how many months since a particular character was created followed by total time on the account. Below shows an example on a guildwars player:
I assume there is no such emote that would generate an age for a certain toon in COH? I tried the searchfu but it acts like a question like this has never been asked. -
Did you right-click on the beta in the NCSOFT launcher to repair? I would assume this would find any errors. If that doesn't work than a re-install or re-download would be the next options.

Quote:Did you follow the instructions and create a separate shortcut? When I did that it worked for me, downloaded, installed, updated, and verified.Me playing on European servers and all, I'd like to know for how long (hours), you're gonna let us play the trial, as I may have some difficulties in order to be there at CEST 20 o'clock.
EDIT: By the way, have tried to install the Beta Server thingy. When I get the text box: "You can't run this program directly, please run NCsoft Launcher instead" after having chosen the Beta Server in the Launcher and after it has checked for updates, is this what is supposed to happen or have I done something wrong? -
Not a bad tip. I usually buy the abundant high level IOs for 250 to 500 and sell them to the quartermaster for profit. Usually the calibrated ios give my praetorian toons the starting cash for DOs.

Quote:More so food for thought when someone wants to start on a new server and is looking to not be dedicated to the lore of ss/fire, that the db/fire option is there. Sometimes folks get caught up in the "my ss/fire dwarfs your "primary"/fire brute by 30 seconds. I've enjoyed farming everything from ice/dm tank (unique to say the least) to energy/stone brute. And they definity differ in times. Heck if the ever nerfed this kind of A.E. farming I'd probably take a long extended break.I can agree with that, but the question that remains is : why would you care about level 1-38 on SOs in a discussion about dedicated farming alts, seeing as this takes all of a few hours of solo AE regardless of the combo? All in all, you might save half a hour or something. Probably less time than you'd spend posting to defend the build on the boards.
Yes with the optimal "ss,elec"/fire build the designated alt. can hit 38+ in a matter of hours. I wasn't defending db, rather meary stating to the opposition that weapon redraw is nothing but a few shakes from a dog's tail. -
The whole db verses ss discussion won't turn into an elec/fire verse ss/fire argument. SS/fire wins hands down on a optimal build over db/fire. But when the discussion is about ss/fire with SO's from levels 1 to 38, I have to say db/fire can compete. Its not about the aoe god in FS, its about damage that the db combos can give a casual player over mashing FS + burn all the time. It can be a bit of a bore whereas the db combos can offer something different to the table. A pissing match b/t the two isn't whats being discussed.

Quote:It really isn't. With just using the weaken, sweep, and attack vitals combos + burn equals numbers galore flowing. With the frontload mish, targets stack in a nice tight space, making attack vitals a major bleeder. The inspirations were coming so fast the game was lagging at times. I never experienced that while leveling up my ss/fire brute(s). When comparing with a general SO build, SS/fire verse db/fire, its a toss-up of who wins. Granted once you start building with your more expensive IOs then SS/fire is the king of speed.DB seems bad for farming. Weapon redraw. Long animations. None of the combos are worth the time on a brute. Seems pointless to do a 3 hit combo for aoe knockdown when SS does it in one move. In a raid you never get a combo off.
But yeah weapon redraw isn't an issue as far as what I've experienced. -
Its entertaining, I'll have to post my current build. My brute is 34 so he doesn't have first embrace yet but the stacking of numbers from the combos plus burn is a pure bliss of accomplishment. He doesn't compare at all to ss/fire but its fun.

Quote:I agree with you but that's suggesting too much from the devs. Heck they nerf powersets to please the pvp bunch and the whiners. How is this for a hoop?
Adjust the NPCs unresistable damage resistance to resist the iPowers more than they do regular powers.
That should fix those nasty Incarnates without neutering the non-Incarnates.
*nods*
Aside from that just add another level of difficulty for those that feel their incarnates make their toons "too" uber. -
Yeah you'd have to finish about half of ghost's arc to go with the soul epic.
-
As a fellow solo only player I have to say going brute is the best way to end. I also agree with local man and have to say electric/shield is the way to go. My toon is only 38 but he's been a joy tagging LR + SC = dead man walking. Of course I also would say you could run an ss/fire brute to 50 in less than two weeks of just "casual play" (15 to 20 hours without IOs in the A.E.)
-
Quote:1. Agreed1. Grats to the OP. Sounds like fun.
2. LOL at the those who think it wasn't solo. I mean seriously? Arcanville's point said it best. It was solo'd with incarnate pets. What is so hard about understanding that? Why would anyone come onto the boards and trash someone for one of their personal accomplishments.
3. Boy do I dislike the registered date argument. As someone who has been around since May 2004 and on my 7th account, I cringe when I see someone use the "old-timers" vs new kids argument in a not-so-nice way.
2. Awesome again since myself and perhaps more in general won't waste another minute with incarnates since only way a solo player can get the rares is teaming...man that sucks.
3. It's valid since you are on your 7th account either states you've sold a few or you juggle from account to account on the forums. I have 5 accounts and only use this one for the boards. But then again the folks with tons of vested time on these boards truly are the masters of "COH domains or virtual life". Look at me, I've amassed a measly 1000 posts since 05' and I can't fathom the amount of time I've wasted doing that.
Again, a tanker soloing a GM is a feat with or without pets. For you trying to steal a tankers thunder from him, judas you are complete nerds! -
OP I don't feel your pain, I assume karma is to blame for this. Its like trying for a baby, once you stop expecting is when you'll get lucky. Same goes for purples; of course my drones have had more luck on drops than the main doing all the work.
-
I think it also has to do with where I lead him and yes the follow works at times but certain powers of the dark melee set seems to not catch. I had to maneuver siphon life and by the time it lands he's moving again. This is the 2nd time I've attempted the task force in full and definitely a reason why I don't bother with it more often.
Anyways thanks for the tips. -
I swear I could target him but getting him in melee range was a bit more of a problem. So with his size and monsters in general where is a good place for melee?
For all points I was soloing because frankly I want to complete it on my time and not someone else's. Case in point with my dm/invul brute I had him down to 20% before he killed Infernal and thus ended my quest at killing him since I couldn't hit jack without going temp flight. UGGH the reasons why I swore off trials. -
I have a level 50 dm/invul and he's a tough sob. Circle of thorn are like candy to him. The only real loop hole for invul is the malts with the end drain.
-
Man I'm surprised how many overlook dark melee in regards of brutes. It makes my stoner pretty entertaining. But of course I have pretty much every primary for stone secondary except for mace and axe.
Dark does have a lot of tools for creaming baddies. At least you'd be unique to say the least. -
As much as folks want to "dis" this idea, its going to happen. Either before it starts losing money or when it eventually does. FTP is just another option to potentially gain a games paying player base back. I agree its a last ditch effort but not all games survive in today's shareholders thirst for greed. All points bulletins character creation would be godly in this game!
I wouldn't mine seeing it go FTP, since I doubt I'll see non-incarnate trials opening up for solo play in my subscription time. Plus alot of my non-MMO friends won't try coh out even if it already has a trial. The concept of a game costing a sub despite it being cheap to purchase and sub compared to a new game with maybe 60 hours of replay value is inefficient time being spent. -
Quote:Naw but it finally makes up for all the nerfing they've done to the farming community to please the whinebots.Having two accounts and using one to PL the other isn't really casual play.
Back to OP, dm/invul brute for "casual" play and ss/fire for quick 1 to 50 play. -

Quote:It's not the same circumstances. If you don't do the two trials, it will take FOREVER to get the new abilities. Have you tried to convert your Shards? Many of my lvl 40s don't have IOs and while they are not as strong, they certainly are not "useless". And I have no problem with people who spend more time beefing up their toons with sets. They spend more time, so they deserve to be stronger.
I share my friend's feeling here because he doesn't post and I am not like him. I share some of his concerns but I have no problem PUGs or forming large teams. I do that all the time in Pocket D. However, I can see how some people may get annoyed by the current trial system.
Forming a very large team has down sides.
1. It doesn't always mean the content is going to be harder. You just need more people. So is the requirement to get new abilities = having just more people or having team(s) that play well together?
2. It is super lag-fest and tons of crashes. In Lamba, I must have crashed 10 times during the 2nd phase which results in not getting enough Grenade/Acid in time. The worst is after the 2nd phase, those that have Acid/grenade crash which result in the team not having enough to destroy the doors asap. Lamba is harder merely because of "technical difficulties" if you ask me. In BAF, even if you lose one or two, you won't feel it. In Lamba, you do because they may have the grenade/acid that you need.
3. It may take a long time to find a large/full team. Sometimes finding 8-people is hard enough in certain zones. It is easy in pocket d as the content is fresh.
Dude your buddy is in a hard spot and likely going to quit. It sucks and the way the end game is going I doubt I'll renew my subs on my accounts. I laugh at how they wanted solo perspective on i20 yet what good is it? All my global friends have left the game I assume for good. And if the future content continues on its end game raid content I wonder how many more will call it good and just be done with it.
