  1. You could just make a toon that uses each of the Vanguard unlockables:
    Archer
    Katana/Ninja Blade
    Dual Blades
    Shield Defense

    Say it isn't so, FM...
The #1 anti number cruncher just crunched some numbers. Halt The Presses!
  3. If I were making one to complement one of the toons listed, I would make either a thermal or sonic buffer. The shielders already have the benefit of notable defense, and the added resistance from sonic or therm buffs would make them very sturdy. That buffer would be good with all three, but I would consider a pocket kin just to keep the ss/sd juiced as that build can get rather thirsty at times.
  4. I thought it was a clipping issue. Hmm.

That is why I clarified it as a quickly recharging heal. Energize is great, but it isn't what I would consider a reliable healing power. Healing flames is up often enough from FA to mean that I can rely on it to keep me from planting. On an elec brute, even with a considerable amount of recharge, I still don't believe it is comparable.

True enough it is an exaggeration in general. My point was that for me personally it won't work. Some people can find shield defense effective enough while not being softcapped, but I wouldn't.

As far as taking my Shielder on Nem duty? No thank you. I learned that the hard way once.

I never tried my SS/SD on Generics. I just went to IOs before I put him into play- but I was under the impression that Shield defense couldn't reach defensive softcap on Generic IOs or SOs. Though that isn't technically a problem, I wouldn't personally attempt to label a shielder as functional without softcapped defenses.

If you aren't running lib tv, then having 35% defense can do wonders for a fire brute with 55% s/l resists. Those numbers will put you one purple away from softcapped defense, decent resists, and a whopper of a heal. More than capable of clearing a lib map or any number of AE maps without breaking a sweat.

    Electric Brute

    Pros-
    - Great AoE
    - Good on endurance
    - Resistance is decent
    - Great for mopping up Rikti
    - Exotic damage type that is less likely to be PvE resisted
    - damage aura

    Cons-
    - No defense
    - notably poor ST damage
    - unlike Fiery aura and Dark Armor, there is no quick recharging heal power (irks me to play resistance sets w/o HP regen tools outside of Med Pool)

Just my take on the combo. Feel free to disagree
  10. The KB/KD in claws should provide some great mitigation tools for FA's lack of mitigation. That sounds like fun actually. Hmmmm.
  11. SS/SD is a great build, but it is typically incredibly expensive. Likely even moreso than your SS/Fire. And then you have to find a reliable way to overcome the endurance management issue, which I personally feel is the largest drawback to the combination. If you have a kin with you, SB can make you unstoppable.

I would also consider a claws/wp or claws/inv. I recently finished leveling my claws brute and she is remarkable on just SOs. Claws is the new kid on the block for us brutes, but the set is just great.
  12. Most of my brutes are 50. A few are in the late 40s.
    Fire/fire
    Claws/inv
    EM/SR
    SS/SD
    DM/DA
    DB/Inv
    Elec/WP
I only keep the ones I like. My fiery aura and shield defense are my faves.
  13. Dispari- didn't you just name all of the sets in the game?
    I kid, I kid...
  14. Feel free to play however you choose, but I would never devote anything more than the single given slot to brawl.

I never have problems with brutes with taunt "stealing" my aggro on any of my main brutes. My two top players are fire/fire/mu and a ss/sd. The /sd is a pure aggro ***** without taunt. All he needs to do is strut his stuff past a spawn, and they all go nuts.
  16. Fireminded, why do you seem hell bent on making new enemies in every thread you enter? Furthermore, why do you slam everyone who uses Mids as unimaginative and poor players? I admit, I am not the biggest Mids user around, but to deny its utility is just silly. Just because people don't enjoy this wonderful game the same way you do doesn't mean that they are wrong or bad. Egocentricity doesn't fit in well with forums.

Sure some themes are done to death, heck Power Armored super heroes are a dime a dozen and yet two-thirds of my heroes wear power armor. Maybe it does mean I'm uncreative with themes but at the same time I like power armor as a source of super powers so I tend to gravitate towards the theme. He insulted a large group of people in his post and so I called him on it.
Thanks for explaining that. Good call.

  19. I take both on my SRs. I also find the bit of resistance added by tough to be helpful to reduce the impact of landed hits before you go into you go into your ohshit hp loss scale resistance mode.
  20. Correct me if I am wrong, someone, but I think the only "issue" with redraw is purely aesthetic. You won't be gimping yourself at all.

The way I build my invulns is by taking everything except for unstoppable. To be fair, I have never tried skipping one of the passives, but then I always find my invuln builds to allow me powers that I want without being too restrictive.

I already beat you to the punch, pun intended. Energy melee is just bad. Agreed!

Had a dk/wp brute think they could outclass my wife's ss/wp brute not too long ago,it was so emarassing for that poor dark brute.

Every dk brute I've seen in my past 3 years has been laughable at best.
I have seen a few do well. I keep deleting mine, but I have a good friend who is Dm/Sd and survivable and effective are just understatements.

  24. Stone Armor. For many reasons. I think it is just awful. That and Energy melee. I guess that one doesn't count because I already played it through once.
  25. I have a fm/fa that I play regularly and I find that building for recharge and defense is more viable than resistance. Aside from the fact that such a build goal is unrealistic with the given selection of IOs, it would also be better to have a multilayered defense plan instead of relying heavily upon resistance.
