slotting brawl for procs (?)

Question - I'm considering slotting brawl and adding procs to an attack I use every couple of seconds. Brawl recharges very very quickly, and doesn't cost energy, so adding procs should give me lots of free damage, right?

Is anyone else doing this, am I nuts?

My SS/WP brute has had brawl on auto since level 1. I try to let it hit between every second attack. In the early levels I needed an easy way to keep my fury bar topped up and a way to keep from running out of energy. I assumed I'd outgrow the tactic, but it still seems to work for me.

Once I get rolling with a full fury bar and double-stacked rage, unslotted brawl 1-shots bank mish parked cars, and is great for picking off those guys with a little sliver of health left from footstomp.

My toon is getting closer to 50 and has more slots to spare now. (I don't have much cash, or I'd just buy a hecatomb and try it out.)

I feel a level 50 should only be using Brawl if they have endurance issues. There's no way any Brute can't string together a great chain from their primary/patrons/pools, and Brawl is a really poor attack beyond DPE. At level 50, most of your Fury should be coming from enemy attacks, as a mature secondary and mitigation from you primary allow you to survive large amounts of agro.

Brawl as a Fury builder is statistically trivial when you consider what it does to total DPS on a 50. The +damage you get from its fast activation is far outweighed by its terrible DPA-- even with procs. You shouldn't have a purple in this thing, so even with 3 damage procs, one of them being an expensive PVP Melee set, that's only an average of 44 damage from procs. Similar slotting in any other skill is superior-- particularly with Fury and Rage leveraging +damage.

Just my opinion, but it's best to follow what you enjoy. Some people really like its animation.

Personally, I would double check to make sure that there isn't some place better to dump those slots into. Don't under-slot one of your real powers to turn Brawl into a proc monster.

If you've actually, honestly got the slots to spare, I'd still wait until you had a Proc or tw in hand before spending those slots...

I sometimes do this, but usually just add 1-2 more slots, tht should be enough. My favorite proc, the 1 that almost ALWAYS goes in is Kinetic Combat chance for KD. With my SS Brute, I can usually chain-KD a mob or two. 2nd choice is Pounding Slugfest chance to Disorient.

I have an EM with a Pounding Slugfest stun proc in brawl. Obviously, it's not so much for the damage. With my global recharge, it would be possible for the stun proc to stack on itself if it stacked and if it hit and fired every 5 shots like clockwork.
As is, it's an additional mag 2 to stun sometimes for investing one slot. In the other slot I have the Bonesnap Acc/Rechg.

This seems to be the 'max' damage effect possible for brawl:

For a Super Strength Brute I would put the procs in Haymaker and/or Punch. KO Blow has too long of a recharge to really matter. Another wonderful idea is adding Gloom to your ST attack chain, it will greatly enhance your DPS and you will be very happy with it, another great place to put a proc. On my SS/Fire I can pretty much alternate Haymaker and Gloom with only a small time gap so I use Punch too if needed.

And there's a difference in slotting a purple set in Brawl on an Ill/Emp than a SS/WP, even though I'd personally wouldn't slot it up in either.

And as Fiery said, I would sooner proc out Jab, Punch, Boxing, or Hay Maker than Brawl; they all have superior DPA.

Feel free to play however you choose, but I would never devote anything more than the single given slot to brawl.
