Increase xp gain for street hunting!

Right now you get double debt for dying outdoors, maybe it would be a good idea if you got double xp too.

If street hunting was good xp maybe people would do that instead of farming ae, also it would fit in the game thematically, would be cool to see teams of heroes cleaning the streets/villains taking over the streets.

Hazard zones wouldn't be so barren anymore either.

When the game first came out I really enjoyed finding a team in the hollows or boomtown and just exploring and hunting and getting great xp.

Anyone else thing this would be a good idea?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Rather than modify the XP, why not increase $Inf/Prestige? After all, you are fighting in public, where everyone can see what you are doing, so it makes sense that your reputation would increase. Defeat 10 Hellions in a warehouse and maybe someone would hear about it. Defeat 10 Hellions in public in broad daylight and people are bound to see it and may possibly snap a cell phone pictures.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I like the logic to this.. I think a danger to constantly trying to balance all of this out would be you still end up with a potentially binary system where either one is better, or the other, though..

What I'd like to propose is a hybrid solution that encourages street sweeping in addition to, not instead of, doing other content.. So I'm thinking while a base increase in experience and inf*/ prestige might still be in order, I'd propose the 'meat' of the boost to street sweeping might be temporary buffs? Given by the number of people who've seen your heroic exploits, or heinous crimes.

The most common buffs would increase rewards for NPC drops for a set amount of time, with a set cap.. meaning you could street sweet for a while, cap out, then either continue or go on normal missions... (Since this would come along with an increase to influence and prestige, I'd suggest that the incentive to simply cap out and go into contact missions would be decreased - but still a viable option.)

Maybe make it a dynamic bonus, too? The more ignored an area is, the better buffs you get for toughing it out and cleaning the area up?

Of course, I'd suggest that you could add additional buffs from street sweeping, such as damage and resistance buffs... although they might need to be 'capped' low to avoid giving the impression that you 'have' to street sweep to get a substantial buff.

I'd love to see street sweeping be a more viable option.. Does anyone agree this would give it more of it's own flavor?

Sorry that argument doesn't work. If you are limiting yourself to one tiny feature of this game, then YOU are the one responsible for your missing out on everything CoH offers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ignoring Cyro's blatant +1 which added nothing to the conversation and is against the hypothetical forum rules...

I think this fits the strawman argument, honestly.

Playing MA at all means that's all I ever play? I never said that, I don't believe it's a good or fun idea, and it's an illogical way of responding to what I did say.

Maybe I wasn't clear, so I'll restate it. The original poster singled out MA if you limit it from double experience on a weekend where that is the whole point.

The original poster is against having it for MA because it might be abused. Okay, I can see their point... but then he falsely claims that it's NOT a punishment because you're not getting something for doing MA that everyone else gets? It doesn't hold at all.

Or that you can still get to level fifty in MA without double experience.. That's more of an argument for not having double experience weekends at all than it is for having them everywhere except MA..

I don't see how (s)he can even claim to be unbiased with 'logic' like that.

*Ahem* But getting back to the point, even if I did exclusively use MA (reminder: I don't), 'missing out on the rest of the game' is your justification for not giving MA double experience when the rest of the game gets it?

You could be playing only radio missions for all I know.. does that mean the developers should exclude them from double experience weekend 'just in case?'

There's a lot better reasons to argue against it than that.

    Costume creator?

    [ QUOTE ]

    [ QUOTE ]
Actually, there couldn't be any copyright infringement.. the devs would have to review and approve the designs first. so if the dev doesn't say it is good then it doesn't go in and no one, not even the builder of it can use it. once the devs say it is good they just release it as an optional patch or something. and on a similar note, a slight change in the models would be nice so that a catgirl could have short hair and NOT have human ears showing still.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Apparently you weren't here for the Marvel Lawsuit. YES, they DO have to monitor it.

Since they are making money from this product, EVERYTHING done with it must belong to them. If you create something which is clearly a rip of another company's work, NC still made money off it. Not that other company.

The only reason we have "wolverine claws" and other such items still in the game, is in large part due to the *reporting and eula-enforcement* removing the 'clones' in the game. If we didn't have those things to an adequate degree (which the judge in the case determined they did, that was one of the things thrown out of the full case since they claimed it DID adequately patrol/enforce) then how many things couldn't go in the creator?

Purple pants and green skin? Nope.

Red Blue and Yellow tights? Nope.

Basically, there is a good, legal and compelling reason why we have a EULA that's enforced in the game, and why there isn't a standalone offline creator.

    [/ QUOTE ]
And APPARENTLY you did not read what he just said. The DEVS would have to review all designs before they go live. So that would prevent infringement.

    BUT IT STILL WON'T WORK.
The Devs just don't have enough time.

Btw, OP...Freedom Four came out nearly a decade before CoH.

A good idea though would be a "Player -created Content Contest" once per year, where the Top 5-10 costume items are added to the game.

This would minimize the time investment for the Devs

    [/ QUOTE ]

ZI, you don't seriously think JUST having green skin and purple pants, all by itself, would void a character's originality, do you? It sounds like you do- and I'm pretty sure in the eyes of the GM's, it wouldn't, unless the character had a name overtly similar to Hulk. Which is far from a given.

Anyway, since it seems to have been ignored, I did mention another idea for dealing with it would be simply attack a fee of five or ten dollars to it. Which would both help cover the cost of reviewing and cut down on potential low level material.

Anyone care to comment on that aspect of the idea?

I'm not taking a side on it, but I think that I see a temporary solution to the problem I've been reading about on these forums.

    ....

    1) This is a punishment to AE users.
    a) Nope. A punishment would be taking something away. Since we are still allowing anyone who wants it to get double XP, this is a false argument.

    -IJ

    [/ QUOTE ]

Honestly, the entire post was nothing but anti-AE.. How can you seriously make a claim that "Everyone gets double exp except a few designated users" isn't just a tad bit biased?

Your little Q&A was nothing other than justifying your position with questionable logic.

It might apply if you'd asked them to remove double exp altogether. But you're asking for double exp for everyone except people using a small part of the game.

It's like saying it would be okay to introduce something like IO's that only drop in certain zones, and claiming it doesn't affect the zones where it doesn't drop because "Gosh, you don't NEED them to get to level fifty, and we're not punishing you because you never had them to begin with."

Alright, it's an idea worth considering due solely to ability to create exploitative missions in MA.. something I still think could be dealt with via the petition system. But it's STILL punishing those of us who don't use the MA for exploitative missions! We already give up the end of mission bonus, in exchange for ease of use and the other benefits of the MA system.

We're still denied something everyone else is given without anything in return. Your arguments don't change that fact.

Especially if you propose they apply this to influence and ticket drops as well.

Playing Dead: Logging out pretty much anywhere while your hero is still KOed/dead.

//it amuses me when I log in and have a character fall flat on their face first thing because I was too lazy to send myself to hospital before I last logged them out. Give me a badge for this bad habit.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I used to do that sometimes.. but there was a nasty bug once that locked out characters who'd logged out dead, preventing you from logging into them.

They took care of it pretty quick, and I doubt it'd happen again- but just the idea made me a bit nervious about 'playing dead..'

Fun idea- although I'm sure if implemented, people would complain about this one left and right.. "Wah, now I HAVE to die at the end of every eight hour session so I can get it as soon as possible because I'm entitled to evrey badge that exists!"

Or maybe I'm overreacting.. who knows or cares?

Just prevent me from signing in .....

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't see that point at all.. It isn't that hard to tell why it's down from the text - and preventing you from logging in at all would deny people the ability to check out the new outfits, or work on a new character.

    What's the benefit there?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Except you wouldn't be able to play right now even if they hadn't announced it.. and common sense would have told you that patch+ a big freaking notice when you try to log in and the game TELLS you it's down for testing for the new issue..

I can get into the selection screen now.. but not the actual game.. so hopefully it's close (/edit)

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm kind of wondering if it's that's going to be possible. It might simply be that when you're buffed, it inherits whatever color scheme you're using at the time... or maybe even go as far as to let you pick which colors buffs applied to you appear as.

Which is something I'd like to see, personally.

    Costume creator?

Which's why I have wondered if it would be possible to enforce a user related fee for submitting a piece for review.. with the idea being, "it" would, ideally, cover the cost of the additional staff needed for reviewing. It's not without precedent, exactly. I know a play by mail game which charges a dollar just to contact another player through their game. I won't mention which game it is since it's fairly scammeriffic, though.

Then again.. I'm not really sure how many people would pay money just to get a piece reviewed and potentially rejected- nor can I imagine the whining from our mature, intelligent fan base when their cra.. um.. their work is inevitably rejected. As I'm afraid most it it would be, thanks to the infamous Strugen's Law.

Unfortunately, that's the only way I can really see it working..

I actually came up with this idea in relation to the Challenger's Offering, when they flat out rejected custom chest emblams.. I really should post it over there sometime.. heh

I think the problem is just with the purposes of the zones. It's too easy for the zones to degrade into zergs where nobody cares about the "objectives." This is especially apparent in Recluse's Victory.

    [/ QUOTE ]

During I14 Closed Beta I suggested there should be a change to RV: increase the chance for a PvP recipe to drop for a given side based on how many pillboxes they control, with the highest chance of all being during the 'zone won' phase. That might actually get people to care about capturing pillboxes and winning the zone.

I still think they should do this.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm curious- what'd be your goal there, LS? Because an immediate 'downside' I see is "Hey, villains are dominating.. Should I fight harder? Naw.. I'll just head over redside so I can take the spoils in.."

Thus turning a dominating showing by a faction- into a total slaughter, potentially.

Wouldn't that be a possibility worth actively avoiding?

Behold my new and exciting response! Different from the ones you may or may not have heard before!

    *ahem* anyway…

Look at it as more of a war training simulation device than a video game! After all, you gain physical skills doing it.. more akin to some sort of dangerous, non trademark non derivative room.. er.. building, than set of VR glasses.

It’ll let you practice with your new *ahem* allies in a safe environment and hopefully build some trust- or be tipped off by your friends when they hug you after a fight then make that 'i'm going to backstab you later' look when they think you're not looking.

Either that or learn the Power of Friends!

Before you rush with them into a dangerous, ‘real’ war zone. And fight for real against alien scum, who aren’t THAT close to the training building anyway!

As for bringing it to the D, I do agree it would be even more fitting there. I’m kind of hoping it’s another I15 feature. The delay could account for wanting to do a full ‘room’ for it, like they did with the D, complete with hopefully a couple new furnishings so it isn’t a few out of place terminals.

Ideally, this new console for the Pocket D will come in base ready versions as well- along with any new furnishings they might make of it.

Win/ win situation.. and seriously, how could co op play be MORE unbalancing at levels 5 or 10 than levels 35 and up, where you’ve got your final primary and secondary powers, and tons of slots?

Logically, I'd suggest it coming up as a chat command, IF they ever do it.. so you.. don't respond.. and it counts as a 'no..' If you want to accept, you simply type in the emote or choose it from the annoying drop down menu.

The way Second Life handled the size issue seems to be to elevate the shorter person into the air, which usually results in the emote 'working.' It's .. less than ideal, though. *Grins*
