If the game was installed using Administrator Rights, then it will only be able to access the game files with Administrator Rights.

You would have to manually go in and set all of the game files to your user-name's ownership rather than the Administrator ownership. Or you would need to delete the game entirely and install it while running under your user login.

actually all it takes is one power-repped person neg-repping you to send the rep-rating plummeting. I myself was well into 7 positive bars myself, when as best as I can tell, a select group of players began hell-repping me.

Now, how do I know that it was only one or two people with inflated reputations? Well, in several posts I made I would have 3 or 4 Green Positive Reps, and one single Red Rep, but the overall reputation of the post would be Extremely Negative or Very Negative. Ergo, the negative rep had to be applied by a player with a rep rating high enough to over-ride 3 or 4 positive reps.

Personally, I'm not even sure rep applies as a useful metric, and at this point, has descended into a tool used for petty show-offs. Most of the players whose opinions I respect have, much like me, simply turned their rep display off due to the ease with which some players can actively abuse the rep system.

    Ah.

You mean like, if you were playing an illusionist fighting Circle of Thorns, and instead of using Energy Blast, the Phantom Army would use Circle of Thorns attacks instead?

I think that would be an interesting concept in groups where minions have only one power-set... but since most mobs in the game tend to have mixed minion power sets, I don't really see the copy-player powers technology working itself back down to the illusionists. There would be a significant processing overhead in determining which minion power-sets to copy, or the process would have to be randomized.

I think it's far more likely that the developers will work the tech to allow the illusionsts to copy the player's costume, but still use the "illusionst" powers they already have.

So, while we might know Maurader to be a vicious dog who only follows Tyrant because it gives him a chance to smash stuff into bits, his presentation to the people of Praetoria is going to be quite... different.

  12. also voicing the opinion that the set is "fine" as is.

Sure, if you want to solo and use SO's, Stone isn't really a good choice.

Then again, CoH is a team-based game. It's a... get this. Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game! Some sets are deliberatly weak in some areas and they do need a team-mate to balance those weaknesses out. That's... get this... Inherent Imbalance!

Okay, in all fairness, Castle has stated in the past that no, outside of granite, Stone armor isn't all that great. It's stackable toggles use up more endurnace than the stackable toggles from the Ice Set... and where as Ice armor can recover endurance and Soft-Cap defense to smash / lethal on SO's... stone can't.

However, Stone also gets granite, and even when on SO's, when coupled with Tough and Weave, you'll be hitting the hard-cap for smashing lethal resistance, have a decent amount of defense to everything but Psi, and high resistances to everything else.

Because of Granite's overwhelming advantage, Castle is on record as saying that Stone isn't really up for a revamp or a rebalance... at least not anytime soon.

    ***

I also take issue with this statement:

    Quote:
The issue with Granite Armor should be obvious to anyone that looks at the set: without it the set is too weak so, in order to be effective, you're forced to use the permanent tier 9 at all times and forced to work around the mechanisms that are there to discourage the use of it as such. Rather than being discouragement, the negative effects of Granite Armor are seen as being part-and-parcel with the set as a whole: like toggle IH of old, the high "costs" are simply built around rather than being used in the actual intended manner (turn it on only when you really have to)
    I've got a Stone / Mace: I showed the slotting here: http://zerias.blogspot.com/2009/08/c...ank-build.html

Okay, in all fairness, it is IO slotted, not SO slotted. That being said, I don't have any major buffs to typical Defenses, having focused on a recharge and movement based build... but... I survive just fine in pretty much every average game situation. I've even tanked MoSTF's without having to duck into Granite (which, also in all fairness, tends to creep the living DAYLIGHTS out of the rest of the team).

Maybe I'm just that good. Maybe it's because I know HOW to tank instead of relying on what a spread sheet says. Maybe it's because i know WHICH powers to use, and WHEN to use them.

Basically, I'm not sold on the idea that the difficulties and issues with Stone Armor that are obvious is entirely such a bad thing. I also really, really, really dislike the attempts to automagically balance each every power set in the game to be exactly like one another.

I wish I could say I was sorry, but when I play my stone tank, I want to have a completely different experience from playing on my Dark, Fire, Invuln, Ice, Willpower, or Shield tanks.

Stone Armor fits that experience change... right now. The proposes made in this thread? Change it. It's no longer unique or different.

For that, and that alone. /unsigned

As of the I17 update, everything "so far" in CoH has been stable against the 9-3-1 driver under Xp.

http://www.mania.com/don-cheadle-to-...le_110519.html :: No official reason was given, but it seems that Terrance Howard's asking price was a fair bit higher than the studio or Marvel were willing to cover... and considering the budget the movie was allocated, you just have to wonder how much Howard wanted. There were also rumors that Howard wanted more creative freedom for the part of Rhodes... freedom that didn't exactly fit into the pitched script.

Another concern that was floated at the time Don Cheadle was cast as Rhodes was whether or not Marvel and the Studio were still planning an Iron Man 3 after Avengers. Reportedly Terrence Howard wasn't willing to commit out that far, which came back to the paycheck. Cheadle was reportedly willing to commit to an extended movie series.

    Quote:
not to mention, Nick Fury had like no time in the movie.
It was Iron Man, not Nick Fury. Nick Fury is also appearing in just about every single Marvel film up to Avengers. That being said, Marvel is tossing the idea of a Nick Fury film out to various directors. It would land after Avengers, and would probably carry a lower budget. So, if you happen to like Sam BMF Jackson as Nick Fury, as I do, there's more of him on the way.

ehhhhh. Semi-Fair point. It was a bit Deus ex machina having S.H.I.E.L.D. dump his fathers research container off at his house. However, given what we know of the movie's cannon and Howard Stark... who else would have had the case? The movie's cannon follows the comics in that Howard Stark worked on the Atomic Bomb under the direction of the Office of Strategic Services, which in the comic continuity, resulted in the development of S.H.I.E.L.D. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.H.I.E.L.D.

It was also implied that Nick Fury and Howard Stark had worked together, and Fury seemed to be further aware of Tony's activities and his relationship with his father. According to a recent revelation: http://www.movieweb.com/news/NEsDhyvv17ovvv :: We'll actually see Howard Stark get involved with Captain America... which brings us onto this point:

    Quote:
The bit with cap americas old shield propping up the particle accelerator was funny, but pointless.
From what we can guess, Howard Stark had a hand in the development of the shield, hence the concern of the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent that Tony had the shield, and treated it so carelessly. So no. This scene was far from pointless. One has to look at the OTHER movies to actually get the full significance of just how clueless Tony is about what he has.

    http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/pat...nsibility.html
    Quote:
    # Invulnerability set changes:

    * Unyielding - Removed Defense Debuff
    * Invincibility - Reduce per target Defense Buff to offset the change from Unyielding, no net gain
    * Resist Physical Damage - Add 25% Defense Debuff Resistance
    * Tough Hide - Add 25% Defense Debuff Resistance
    * Resist Energies - Add 25% Endurance Debuff Resistance.
    * Resist Elements - Add 20% Movement Slow Resistance
Basically they heavily increased the Defense Debuff reduction with the passives. Invuln as a whole does not get that much defense, but enemies will struggle to take it away. So, you can rack up on Defense Boosting IO sets without having to worry too much about cascading defense failure. Now, I've got a couple Invuln's, and my armor slotting pretty much looks like this:

Resist powers: 4 slot Impervium Armor: resist :: resist / end :: resist / rech :: resist / end / recharge

Defense Powers: 3 slot Luck of the Gambler: defense :: defense / end :: defense 7.5 proc

Basically, this sort of slotting will put you into ED defense / resist caps.

I go with these sets because Luck of the Gambler also carries a health bonus with the the 3 slot buff, and more HP is always desirable. The 4 slotting of Impervium armor boosts recovery and maximum endurance, which also pushes recovery up, and helps give some Psi Defense.

In the nvdia control panel it says it is turned on.

One other issue is that in the windows when i click on the physx properties it cannot find it.

    Any ideas?
The version of PhysX supported by the City of Heroes engine utilizes the add-in AGEIA PhysX card, NOT Nvida Geforce GPU PhysX.

Currently there are no known plans to implement Nvidia Geforce GPU PhysX for two reasons:
    • First: Performance. The Performance gains from AGEIA PhysX were about the same as using a Dual Core processor over a Single core processor back when AGEIA PhysX was made available. With even Intel now offering affordable quad-core processors, there is very little incentive or reason for the development staff to spend time and money pushing a plug-in feature that was pretty much outperformed by just having another processing core.
    • Second: OpenCL: http://www.khronos.org/registry/cl/ About the only major hardware / software vendor not backing OpenCL is Microsoft, mostly as they are pushing Direct Compute. The short version is that OpenCL enables software developers to expose parallel computing tasks to dedicated processors with a common code base: aka: OpenCL can do the exact same physics processing that PhysX did... on any processor with an OpenCL driver.

OpenCL is probably the route that Paragon Studio will take if / when bringing GPU accelerated physics back is feasible. OpenCL code will work across all existing AMD and Intel x86 processors, most DX10 / OpenGL 3.0 class graphics cards, and if Nvidia can be bothered, the original AGEIA Physx card as well.

Basically this means Paragon Studios would only have to write one hardware physics acceleration code-base, maintain only one hardware physics acceleration code-base, and have that code-base supported on Apple, Linux, and Windows, across AMD, Nvidia, and Intel graphics.

If Paragon Studios were to update the PhysX component, they'd only have hardware physics acceleration on one platform (Nvidia), and would have to maintain a separate code base, with a separate API, for hardware acceleration on AMD and Intel hardware, or just settle for software support.

When I went to the actual mission screen though, the mission screen is darker and the text didn't pop. So I started changing the color numbers to lighter colors.

After changing one of the color numbers in Mission 2 (select, control-v), I got the orange warning with HTML issues mentioned in the pop-up box... and the warning it didn't go away until I had removed ALL of the html formatting in the box (which consisted of a few bolded words, two seperate color zones, and some italics).

I re-did the formatting, and second time, no warnings.

I don't... think so... since the CE Boxed Editions were the only way the CE code(s) were released.

In some cases, like I think the Prestige Power Slide, there was a limited edition pack available for players to purchase who already HAD the original content. The developers are doing this again with Going Rogue Pre-Purchase and Going Rogue Complete Collection. Those who Pre-Purchase Going Rogue can buy a limited availability download package to get the special in-game costumes, emotes, and other non-time differences between the two packages.

These update downloads don't last very long though... so if you didn't buy the update package within a couple of months of the release... it probably won't be made available again.

    ***

Now, if there was something in the CoV CE edition that you'd like to see made available again, it might be a good idea to approach the developers about making a CE-Booster Pack. With Going Rogue coming up, and a (presumed) push from NCSoft Marketing, it might be a good time to suggest that some of those esoteric CE rewards be made available again as the original retail packages have been out-of-print for... well. Years now.

Honestly, "any single" archtype and power set can complete a Master Of run. However, there is a flip side to that statement. Not all possible archtype teaming "combinations" can complete a Master Of Run.

Some players swear up and down that you "need" a stone tank to do a MoSTF run. However, I, personally, have done MoSTF runs where Shield, Ice, and Invuln tanks have worked the Task Force without dying. Some players swear up and down that you "need" a Radiation Emission... but I've done MoSTF runs with only darks and kins available for debuffs / buffs.

Sometimes it takes thinking a bit laterally... like spending time before Ourobous before hand and having loads of Tier 2 and Tier 3 inspirations in SG storage or email to draw on when the fight mobs stop dropping inspirations. Just about any tank with any sort of Defense can pop 3 Tier 2 purples and "survive" against Recluse's strikes.

Would I never take a power set combination on a Master Of attempt? I don't think so. I would make sure that I had my buffs / debuffs / and aggro control addressed before casting about for additional players.

Will paying for Cedega provide me with technical support for issues which crop up when new issues come out or new Linux functions are released?

    Nick
    Yes and No.

As of right now, Ultra Mode is NOT exposed on the shipping Cedega 7.3.3 engine you would get with a subscription. However, everything in I17 still works perfectly well with both Nvidia and ATi graphics cards. So if you define full game experience as "everything you can actually do in the game"... Cedega's already there and stable.

Ultra Mode IS exposed on the in-testing Cedega 8 engines against AMD RadeonHD Cards running Catalyst 10.1 or newer. (some functions, such as Ultimate Water, do work on Catalyst 9.3 for those using the legacy OpenGL 2.0 cards). Up until 3 or 4 patches before I17 launch Ultra Mode was working pretty well. A build update on the CoH side introduced problems with resolution scaling. The Game is highly unstable at 1920*1200, but perfectly functional at 1440*900.

Ultra Mode is currently NOT exposed to Nvidia cards with any in-testing Cedega engine that I'm aware of.

    ***

About the only user-friendly feature within the game that isn't currently operational on any Cedega engine that I'm aware of is the copy function. Using Control-C locks up CoH on both ATi and Nvidia cards.

    ***

What you can expect to improve?

Well, performance. The Cedega testing engines can get pretty close to Windows performance on Nvidia cards. There was also a significant jump in performance between shipping Cedega Engine and the first Cedega Testing engines.

Then there's 64bit support. Transgaming is working on a native 64bit UI package. You'll still have to run 32bit Windows Executables... but 64bit support should finally (after literal years) work out of the box for Nvidia cards like it has for ATi/AMD cards.

Will Cedega tech support actually RESPOND? That's the subscription worthy question. Transgaming's development model is pretty much like the development model of City of Heroes, meaning that if you have a problem, there's not really a whole lot anybody can do for you "immediatly". So if there's a driver issue or a game issue... your pretty much S.O.L.

That being said, you can have multiple Cedega engines installed at once, so if a future Cedega engine breaks compatibility, you can still keep using the older engine.

Is it worth the subscription cost? Well, that's what you have to decide. Personally, for me, and for my support of City of Heroes, it's worth the subscription cost.
