Ok, howz about the decoys be copies of players on the team to be, you know "decoys." Not match the powers (though that would be interesting), but just the forms.

... um. What exactly are you on about?

Are you asking if the Shadow Simulcrums use the powers of the heroes they were copied from?

Are you filing a bug report stating that they used Energy Blast like the Illusionist Decoy's instead of using the player power sets?

I don't really understand what your question is.

If I'm reading it right, it's this:
"Since the Shadow Simulacrums in the New Posi can copy players, why not take this technology and rework Phantom Army to copy their forms as well?"

Me... I don't care for illusion, so I don't really have an opinion either way. *shrug*

Ah.

You mean like, if you were playing an illusionist fighting Circle of Thorns, and instead of using Energy Blast, the Phantom Army would use Circle of Thorns attacks instead?

I think that would be an interesting concept in groups where minions have only one power-set... but since most mobs in the game tend to have mixed minion power sets, I don't really see the copy-player powers technology working itself back down to the illusionists. There would be a significant processing overhead in determining which minion power-sets to copy, or the process would have to be randomized.

I think it's far more likely that the developers will work the tech to allow the illusionsts to copy the player's costume, but still use the "illusionst" powers they already have.

Sorry, should have been more clear. I was playing and toggled over to post the idea before it slipped my mind.

Yes, I was suggesting the decoys from the Ill controller take the general form of teammates. In that way, they will appear as decoys for teammates. I tossed the idea out about taking a random power selection of teammates, but didn't see it coming about.

I have an Ill/Rad and it seemed like more could be done so that the decoys were actual decoys for someone, instead of generic heroes in duplicate costumes.

No ty... what team mates will it copy? u only get 3..and u can have up to 8 playes per team.

How can a purely cosmetic change make a power over powered? That's like saying since I change Radiation Infection from Green to Red it's now over powered.

All the OP is saying is why not have PA look like a random 3 of your team mates.

Check out the Repeat Offenders network of SGs! You'll be glad you did.

I'd really, much rather have it look like my own toon Send in Illusions of yourself to do battle.

Yeah, I was gonna' say the same thing - if you'll be fiddling with Phantom Army, just make the decoys look like copies of you, but with the default Phantom Army powers.

I'd like that.

This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.

Brawler, Castle, and I think Posi have all commented on this at some point or another. In fact I think it's in the Q&A on the North American and European test servers as well as the CoH Formspring.

They'd -love- to change it over to being player clones. Even the "Phantasm" and it's Decoy. They're concerned over the player outrage, however, that would surely come from the segment of illusion controllers who like their nameless and faceless minions, especially after i16 let them color the things.

However it's POSSIBLE (if not probable) that Castle might offer up a dual-option for those powers in the future (not even Soontm!) but it's a pain in the neck to do.

Exactly what I was going to post, except briefer. +Rep for this extremely good post.

I'm not for the idea of three random members of the team. But, I am for the idea of being clones of your toon. I mean, how stupid do these enemies have to be to go "Hmm, is it the one with the trench coat, or one of those triplets that is the main guy? Yep, it's one of the triplets!"

I don't get the Phantasm part though. Unless you are saying the Phantasm's decoys look like itself, then yes, but if you are saying for them to look like you/members of your team it makes no sense.

The Phantasm could also be a copy of the caster. And it's decoy be another copy of the caster.

So you and five friends who look just like you fighting the forces of evil. And it would be like you, not other members of the team. So if you had a guy who was a rip off of back alley Brawler in costume you would only have Decoys of -your- outfit. Not his.

Isn't the Phantasm decoy supposed to be a decoy of it though? I don't like the idea of having the Phantasm a copy of the caster, simply because it looks great as it is. I agree it does make sense that the Phantasm would look like the caster, but the way it is gives it some individuality within your pets.

On an off-topic note, would it not make sense for your decoys to be able to fly like the Phantasm if you fly up?

Two things.

First! If this were ever implemented it would be a power customization issue. the Devs wouldn't want to hedge out the people who already enjoy the "Standard" NPC models for Phantom Army, Phantasm, or Decoy. You'd be able to choose which one you wanted, Original or Clone. So you could have a Clone Phantom Army and an "Original/Color Tintable" Phantasm, if you liked. If you went for Clone Phantasm the Decoy Phantasm would also be a clone.

Second, by "Decoys" I think you mean phantom Army? And it would, yes. But the Devs kept them from flying for some reason. Probably to avoid Flying NPC battles from staying Flying NPC battles between your phantoms and the NPC fliers in which the team's scrapper has little input.

Unfortunately on the anniversery EU test server Q&A it was confirmed by Castle that the tech used to make the doppleganger enemies wouldn't work for player pets.

Poo. I knew he commented on it, but I couldn't remember what he'd said.

I've always thought of it as you and your allies see through the decoys but the enemies don't or they don't really care because the decoys are hurting them so they want to get them and don't realize getting you gets rid of all 3 of them.

I'd love to see this as an option. I've been thinking that exact same thing, but it wouldn't work for my Illusionists pets, because hers are a psychic representation of her enemies fears, and so they wouldn't necessarily look like her.

Wouldn't bother me. My scrapper can fly.

I can see how it's a concern the devs have, though. There are travel powers that would keep lots of teams out of the fight, and a runner in a defeat all that flies off someplace you can't go is just no fun at all.

I'm such a geek. Some of my heroes have journals.
