  1. I absolutely agree with this. There is about zero excuse for the line items to not be more descriptive. None. Except laziness.

Then again, the forum login bug is still here, so...

    /zing?
    //Yeah, goin' with 'zing!'.
  2. I think of The Hulk as the classic green one. So goin' off of that.

He's a SS/WP Brute, hands down. Yes, he has Tank like abilities, but he's more Brute by far. Yes, he could be Invuln, but WP just fits his modus operandi better.

And regards the mental attacks... not even WP is immune to the -regen Psi attacks. At first. And really, never to any complete extent. He just needed more slots.
  3. houtex

    New Brute

I'm a /WP fan myself, but some of it does require you to surround yourself with reverse leeches so your health gets generated better.

I'll have to roll a /dark and /EA one day and see what that's about, I keep hearing 'win' from those two, but as far as 'taking a beating', well... if it is any help, I'm running a Brawl only/WP brute around taking out 3 +2 bosses at a time... And lots of +3 bosses solo, and +4 and +5 even LTs, in my 30s. (Yeah, I know, I'm weird.)

With just brawl. With claws or SS, you'll be nigh upon an invincible whirling/stomping dervish in a lot of cases.

I like WP because it's a really well rounded defense set, with Psionics included... Psi critters HURT. Not many secondaries cover them all. That said, indeed, alphas can be an issue with WP. Strategy can be your best friend on this, in slotting things correctly to withstand the alphas. Then it's just stand there and smile as they try to take you down. Heh.

It's also got a lot of -tohit which helps a lot. If you are defensed, resisted, and to top it off they can't even hit you... well... yeah, it's a case for 'tank'.

In case that matters to ya. I'm sure I'll get shot down for this, but that's ok.
  4. Funny you should mention that, Energizing_Ion...

While I'm good with Brave, this I wanna see.

Oh! It's a straight to DVD thing... well... that... might change my mind just a teensy bit...

Maybe you can make a city of heroes port for the Playstation Vita

    I would buy it
There's one sale. But the only one, and that's just not enough, sorry.

The game was designed with keyboard and mouse in mind, and then you need to work out if the cost of investing resources/cash for the port is worth the pay off.

And I just don't think it would be. Then you have to consider the Vita's hardware and storage limitations.

+1 on all these, and for my vote overall about a port:

  6. I learned well how to run around without travel powers in the Hollows. Where everyone else was asking for Taxibots or "TP meh!" was shouted everywhere, I, with my lowly level 5 (or better yet, a 1!) was intentionally running across the deepest parts of the Hollows, for practice. Because it helped in the rest of the game to know how to avoid everything else... especially in Perez, at the time, dang those groups..

It also helped in my 'dexterity' at knowing how and when to jump over obsticles, how to map out where to run to... My fav is going from Cherry Hills to the transmission tower, right through the lowest part and back up again... all without dyin', or even gettin' hit.

I still go there an intentionally and visit. Just to see what's happening... which isn't all that much, true.
  7. I'm going to say this:

Run MSConfig (should just be start orb, type in msconfig, hit [Enter])

Go to the Startup and Services tabs and turn off all the extraneous *crud* that you've got running. Too much to try to figure it out. There's a switch in the Services tabs to hide Microsoft services, click that, then turn off everything else. Turn off all startups. Get it simple so that it's as much as possible just the OS and the Game.

Then start adding things back in slowly.

It sounds more like bad memory, bad hard drive, bad video card, bad drivers and/or bad motherboard... a little to 'not specific' enough to really nail down, which is why the KISS in turning off the extraneous softwares is the next step.
  8. Just got to this...

The server will remember all your characters. The only thing you might have to do is reset your UI and keybinds. All you have to do it *INSTALL IT FROM SCRATCH*. Here's the launcher webpage:

    http://us.ncsoft.com/en/launcher/ncsoft-launcher.html

I know you'd rather not wait 4 hours, but given your situation, it might be prudent to start over. I know that's what I just did yesterday. Boy... ugh. >.<

I would *highly* suggest a >>>NEW HARD DRIVE<<<. After installation, you can plug the old one in as a secondary storage (D or E, perhaps) and FULLY SCAN IT with appropriate anti-virus software. You can then likely pull the Co* game folder, among others such as pictures, from it. There are instructions about for the Co* moving. Again, I just reinstalled it overnight.

First things first, though: Install OS, get your drivers in order, Patch OS FULLY. Antivirus software of your choice, but pick a good one, and they're >>not<< always best if you're paying for them... just sayin'.

THEN do the scan and pull of the old drive.

If you're referring to custom characters, unpublished story arcs and such, yes, those are locally stored in the game folder, likely "C:\Program Files\NCsoft\City of Heroes" and anything in there has it. This is where the new hard drive comes in handy, as you don't need to do anything but start fresh, then pull this from the old drive into a temp folder and work with it that way.

    Good luck!
  9. Perhaps I'm old school, but that's how it used to be. Been a while since I've had to do it, they may have fixed that "select windowed/exit/now it's windowed" thing.

But do it from the Character Creator. Go on. Try.

    ---

But, WOOT on the configuration button on login. That is fantastic. I stopped playin' and readin' about Betas about 3 issues ago. I'd rather be pleasantly surprised when it shows up in Live Main.

Yeah, I know... I totally should, but I just don't break things, I guess. Never had an issue in Beta, then when it went live, I... didn't play the new shiny because I'd already done it.
  10. Yes, the green single is 1/2 or less server load (ish), Two yellows is 1/2 to 7/8ths load, and three red is generally "too bad, we're full".

Ok, my numbers are a little off, but pretty much that's what you can read with the stop lights.

And yes, come to Pinnacle. We have cookies. And... other libations. Such as might be found in a pub.
  11. Brawl. Definitely. Brawl/SR or Brawl/WP. You'll love it.
  12. I know the devs/mods read this, so here goes:

I hadda redo my computer. So it's 'new' again. I decided against moving anything from the old hard drive to this new one just yet. So, as part of that, a brand new, out of the box, just like they want to do it, installation of the NCSoft Launcher was done. No issues there. Then a brand new, out of the box, just like they want to do it, installation of Co* was next... and man... I gotta tell ya.....

Well, lemme just say this: While doing a new installation for Co*, these suggestions came to mind...

    1) FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING EVAR, PLEASE start in the Windowed mode. I don't care if you start it at 640x480 windowed, just DO NOT go directly into full screen at a bad resolution. It sucks royally and ticks me off every time I have to do it, because:

    2) DON'T START THE GAME IF ALL I CAN DO IS THE CHARACTER CREATOR. I get it, you want people to play with it. How about giving me an option? Please? Sugar, whipped cream, Bailey's, whatever you want on it? I'd rather wait, I've *seen* the character creator... I just want to play. I'll wait until it's all here, thanks.

    3) Running the game in the awful video mode causes me to be STUCK in the awful mode, EVEN FOR MY REGULAR WINDOWS, such as this forums... unless I stop the game. Which I will, sure, it's not ready anyway. Still, that is... pitiful for me. I hate it. HATE.

    4) WORSE, I CAN'T FIX IT UNTIL I GET IN THE GAME. This is the most annoying aspect. That I have to get stuck in the weird mode I don't wanna be in is annoying enough, that I have to exit the game, and restart the download, that is annoying even more. But the true bees in my bonnet is this one thing for sure. There is no excuse, NONE, that there cannot be a simple "Hey! This is the first time you've run this on the computer here! Want to pick out your desired resolution and test it and all that stuff like that?!?"

    Um... yes. Yes I would.

BUT I CAN'T. No, I have to pick some character, log in, and have their trays all screwed up just so I can fix the resolution... then EXIT THE GAME. Then go back into the character I screwed up and fix the trays which are now all on top of each other in a jumbled up, tedious mess.

    Grr.

    ---

I know, it's a nerdrage thing, but really. If I had anything to do with this game on the programming side, being a programmer as part of my job, and knowing things I know... These four things are frankly inexcusable. Period. It is kludgy, unfriendly, and wholly inadequate.

Thank goodness the game is as specatacular otherwise as it is, else I may have just ragequit when this happened to me the first time, were I new and trying it out for my first time.

Heck the whole Character Selection only thing in the first place ticks me the heck off, and I'd have totally ragequit without even trying the game. I ain't got patience for partial. I. Want. In.

    Nao.

    Thanks for readin'!

Huh. That's interesting about the XP, Kat.

For me? XP, 7, Vista, Win2000. And IE6, 7, 8 and 9. None of them remember. None. And Firefox never did either. Chrome doesn't either. None of them do.

I feel like I'm being punished a little now...

  15. It is important to note: There is server lag, network lag, and there is computer lag. Depending on your lag, moving may not help you.

Server lag: The server simply cannot handle the amount of information being thrown at it to deal with. Mainly comes up in rubberbanding of characters, even solo, when moving about outside. Powers that say recharged on the screen, but when attempted to be used, say "Recharging." Among other things.

Network lag: This is caused by congestion somewhere betwen point A (server) and point B (your computer). This can be a problem with a software interfering on your computer, your cabling, the router(s)/switch(es)you are using, your ISP, the Internet Backbone path to the servers, the server ISP, the routers/switches at the server. This is hardest to deal with, because many times it's very estoteric to find, and then solve. In game, the command "/netgraph 1" can be used to see network issues, and a program such as PingPlotter could help you find the choke point.

Then there's Computer lag: Your computer and/or graphics card simply cannot handle the amount of things being thrown at it. Similar to the server lag, but wholly on your end. Either the CPU or GPU is not up to the amount of detail you desire to see, or there is software sucking precious time away from the most important thing being run on your computer... namely, our beloved Co*.

I only type this up because I care, and because I don't think moving is going to help y'alls issues. However, unless you're in the Euro Zone, it may be better to pick Pinnacle, or maybe Champion or such.

I want to say that the servers are sorted according to player load when you load the game, with the exception being the first one is the last server you logged in to. The top 4 are the usual suspects in terms of being light.
  16. AAANNDDD.... depending on how the computer uses that memory, having the extra may be highly detrimental, and reducing it to just 4G might be a better idea... but that's a longshot. I would be pulling it out, though, to eliminate it as a potential issue. Or getting the 64bit OS.

Having said that, here's my diagnosis of the HJT log:

I've been having... issues, lets say... with AVG and stability. I've 86d them for Microsoft Security Essentials. I'm not saying you should too, just saying what I found to be the case for me.

Get this out of your computer:
    C:\Program Files\Uniblue\SpeedUpMyPC\sump.exe

Youve got AVG AND Comodo going on... interesting. I'd probably kill one of them.
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [COMODO Internet Security] "C:\Program Files\COMODO\COMODO Internet Security\cfp.exe" -h
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ROC_roc_dec12] "C:\Program Files\AVG Secure Search\ROC_roc_dec12.exe" /PROMPT /CMPID=roc_dec12

Sony sucks. But that's just me.
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.soe.com
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.sony.com

Interactual also sucks, and that's not just me.
    O16 - DPF: {2042B57E-6336-459E-B7CE-2A0F6C9E6AF8} (IEPlayInterface Class) - file:///E:/win/setup/iaieplay.dll
    O16 - DPF: {8B67B37E-1AE2-4B99-B8CF-55AF4D58DF0D} (IAMCE Class) - file:///E:/win/setup/iamce.dll

I'm guessin' you have an ATI/AMD video card maybe? If not... you might wanna redo your video card drivers from scratch, and do a driver sweeper/cleaner to make sure the old ones are gone...
    O23 - Service: AMD External Events Utility - AMD - C:\Windows\system32\atiesrxx.exe

    AVG, Comodo, AND Spybot! Nice...
    O23 - Service: SBSD Security Center Service (SBSDWSCService) - Safer Networking Ltd. - C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\SDWinSec.exe

Overall, I can't say as there's anything overt causing issues. I will say that perhaps going through and turning off things via the MSConfig command (Start, Run, MSConfig) might help you figure out what may be causing problems.

You might also want to run a Kapersky TDSSKiller, Combofix, and a Malwarebytes Antimalware Free on it. I don't think the Antimalware will find anything, as the HJT log looks pretty good on that respect, but if you have a rootkit in there, the first two will find it.
  17. I'm going to ask what's probably obvious... you have two monitors on the one video card, yes?

Other than that, I don't see anything untowards... perhaps a Hijack This log is in order, to see what's running.

    edit: hehe, see? do it!!!

I can tell you that the length of time is irrelevant, likely. You're being very lucky.

I am on a brand new, never been used, completely reinstalled system... and if I so much as close IE, then reopen it, the forum has forgotten me.

It is... annoying, to be sure. And I am just flatly putting it out there: They are.. we'll say 'misinforming'.. us in regards to the 'timeout' thing. It is no such thing, or what I just described *CANNOT* happen.

In case it matters, yes, I am a programmer as part of my job functions, so I pretty much know they're not telling us things rightly. However, they are probably just passing along misinformation from the makers of this board, VBulletin, which is Jelsoft, as likely it's just installed, so whatever Jelsoft says, that's what the Mods/Engineers have to say here.

Jelsoft is at fault here, most likely. Or maybe not... as it happens other forums I visit with vBulletin, do not exhibit this problem. Only here. That I go to, of course, I can't visit ALL of them..

It's likely to do with the fact they tie the forums into the main game accounts themselves, as opposed to just allowing someone to log in and get approved.

Whatever, it's really sort of tiring to hear excuses for this. But... things could be worse, so mostly I don't complain.

I just had to pump another couple of cents into this because I just redid the computer, and it's still happening. Therefore, it's not me, it's them, and I wanted to say so. Here's where to put it.
  19. Hm. Guess I won the thread with those two...

/YES! 42nd post in it! woot!
  20. I will be pantlessly moving Brawling Humiliator, Brawl/WP Brute, up towards the goal of 50. He'll need all the help movin' up the chain towards 50 he can get.

If I can sneak in some time... Motorcycle activites are threatening...

/Won't be doin' the Motorcyclin' pantless. ATGATT.
  21. You're missing the point. It's like this episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Most_Toys

Fajo wants the most exotic, strangest, and/or completely unique items he can collect. Data, being the only sentient, autonomous, and legally 'himself' known android (besides, possibly, Lore... not remembering the sequence on that...) he wants him.

    So he gets him.

For no other reason as to the reason someone climbs Mount Everest... or builds a Brawl only Brute and attempts to level it to 50 doing nothing but street sweeping. (Can't for the life of me figure out who'd be silly enough to do that... >.>)

Because it's there. And, in some cases, you can't have it, or very very few can.

This is one of those items.

/I want it. Badly. But I ain't got enough in all my toons to get it at 10B
  22. houtex

    Epiphany!

'Bout time the obvious about Co* is finally talked about...

Indeed, the game is whatever you make of it, and that's the fun part of playing it.

/Some of it, for me is figuring out the worst way to play and still level characters.
  23. Well, all righty then, let's go this way:

In this corner, Amy Pond. In that corner, Commander Susan Ivanova.

    Get to it, ladies!

    /Ivanova would totally win... right?
  24. What Ironblade said. I put instructions in there for you. Now you've gone and messed it all up.

I don't see anything *super* wrong.... some stuff I'd probably have uninstalled/not installed in the first place...

Not real sure why I see AMD and NVidia stuff in there... perhaps ATI video on an Nvidia chipset or vice versa? I'd have to guess that's it...

    Oh, this is interesting:

    O4 - Startup: Kidspiration Install Shortcut.lnk = E:\Install.exe

Is that CD/DVD in the drive?

I think my other suggestions in the other thread might apply here, overall...
