  1. ok so here's a build i came up with for my Emp/Psi.. I'd prefer to not add more purple sets as it gets very expensive very quickly and with the LotG recharges it's already going to be pricy.. But here's what i came up with

Interestingly enough this doesn't work in grav's dimension shift while it does in FF's and by your account Sonic's versions of the powers..

Oh and Local i'm surprised you didn't mention the one for Radiation Infection where 3 Enzymes (Def buff/End reduc/To hit buff) will increase it's Defense Debuff and To Hit Debuff numbers!

    Elec/Elec advice

I wasn't stacking any defense.. all the AoE defense is kinda built in.. as for the purples it was just recovery and recharge (yes the almost, 2sec off, perma energize seemed nice).. the accuracy is a bonus.. and i tried to put in a bunch of regen also.. it's a resist shield set and i found chasing defense was a big waste of slots.. couldn't get anywhere near the soft cap on melee/range or anywhere near decent numbers on S/L i had kick/tough/weave/maneuvers in there too..

So have I done good? I'm not interested in the Detention field like powers or the knockback ones...

since stone cages is such an aggro magnet i use this combo on my Earth/Emp since my earthquake is slotted heavily for to-hit/defense debuff.. more chance of other attacks hitting them and less chance of them hitting me.. my friends complain a lot less about earthquake use since i took the Force Feedback set out of it ;P

well that's what Dark Consumption is for.. the way Twilight has it slotted i'd say it'd take only 3 targets to fill your blue bar.. at least that's what a full Performance Shifter set in Energy Absorption on my Ice tank does with it...

The Entropic Chance for Heal in Blind -- Do you really need that? The general chatter I hear about this IO is not overly positive. I could see using it on a Blaster's lowest tier blast, but is it worth giving up damage (or control) for a 10% chance of a self heal when you already have a self heal power? I would swap that out for more Damage. However, if you feel that the heal is worth giving up more damage or control, then that's fine. If you want more Regen, see what I suggest on moving a slot below.
Didn't realize that IO was that bad.. figured 20% chance like most of the other procs.. changed it for the Dam/End/Rechg so i keep the 10% regen set bonus

Teleport for travel: I leveled up Area Man using Teleport for travel and I still have it on his original build (The "before IOs were available build with lots of Hami-Os." The one I don't use.) I have Teleport on my Stone/Fire and Stone/Stone tanks. I'm fairly used to it . . . but it is still an awkward travel power to use. You have Hover, which makes Teleport much, much easier. Still, Fly is a far more convenient travel power. Teleport is the fastest for traveling long distances when you get the 'Rhythm' going, but for short distances, the difficulty of lining up where you plan to go make it slower for me. If you want Teleport for concept . . . then concept wins. Teleport works great on an Ill/Rad once you get used to it.
I have a Stoner so i am familiar with Teleport's good and bad points it is definitely a theme choice.. i don't see him as a flyer.. hover yes.. teleport definitely

Group Invis: The main reason to me to take Group Invis is as a mule for a LotG Recharge. I don't feel I need a Kismet +ToHit because I already have good global accuracy and RI. Admittedly, GI does have some utility, but not enough to take it on its own . . . to me, but that may be different for you. I would swap it out for Mutation on a team friendly build -- which I assume you were going for since you have Recall Friend.
swapped for mutation with a recharge io
    Quote:

You might want to consider trying to get a Zephyr -knockback IO to put in Recall Friend. (The Range in it is only needed for the farthest corners of IP or in the Shadow Shard.) That will free up a slot out of Hover. You could move that slot to several places, including Health for a Miracle Heal -- adding both Recovery and Regen.
done.. nice catch/idea.. i tend to try and get the kismet acc io as i see lots of accuracy issues (probably imagined) then again if i still have these at 50 i can always get the Nerve Alpha

You chose the Psi APP. As long as you feel the trade-offs are worth it, that's fine. You get Mez protection with some Psi Defense and Resistance. I really like Psi Tornado in general -- I really like it on my Fire/Rad controllers. I explain in the guide why I prefer the Fire APP, but I give up on the chance for Mez protection.
For concept purposes i couldn't really see the others fitting.. maybe for the ice or fire attacks but not the armors.. he's not magic or mutant.. so i figured Psi, even with it being the same damage type, would fit better (trust me i tried to rationalize ice or fire with my concept and your explanations of why they were better choices)

again thanks for the help and the amazing guide!
  12. OMG! your guide is thorough and very objectively written (you didn't bash powers just 'cause you didn't like them).. after reading through your info i came up with the following and wanted your opinion (it's based on your perma-PA build)

  13. Looking for advice on my proposed build for an Energy/Electric Armor brute i came up with.. not very familiar with the sets but it seems to have a lot of layered defenses (lots of resist and a fair amount of S/L defense) and should hit fairly hard too.. It's a concept build so I want to keep/make use of the MU Patron powers (google Van De Graff generator)

  14. thanks for the advice.. I think i'm gonna go with your build Finduilas..

my comment about the "tanks are damge dealers" was because in another thread i was told to gut my "meat-shield" ability on a Inv/SS for the sake of damage.. on the Inv/SS i didn't take hasten or Rage because i was having massive problems with the end crashes.. he's 32 and doing amazingly well even solo.. he's slow but very survivable.. unlike how this guy was doing
  15. ok so i just got my Ice/Axe/Arctic tank to 50 and was wondering why i feel so squishy lately.. I went on an STF and Scirocco One-Shotted me! I also was getting hit a lot by the AVs in there even when i brought my defenses up to 150% with inspirations! I know there's a 5% chance of being hit but come on.. it was like they had a constant 100% chance to hit me no matter what i did! I like the way he plays for the most part, outside the end problems i have when i can't use Energy Absorption properly (need 3 targets to fill up) but i'm bringing blues until i can get the end-reducer Alpha power..

I don't want to change his powers too much and i definately am looking to be more of a meat-shield than a damage dealer since i typically never solo with him.

so here's my tank.. please be gentle (and again if you're just going to tell me i don't do enough damage then please don't bother)

  16. isn't Targeting Drone more of an Aim-like power that boosts Accuracy more than Damage?
  17. Actually I've seen the devs (no i don't have a link to it) say that the game is NOT and will NOT be balanced around IOs.. they balance it around SOs since that is something everyone can have

It is kind of hard to predict any design trends with Blaster secondaries, since we've only ever had one added, in Mental Manip. And I think most of us were a little baffled that it included a ranged cone.

    Ice and Why?

I've had an Ice/Axe tank for a while and he's one of the more fun tanks i have.. He's very Theme build (he's a viking and i made him before the SD/ Influx of them) and i love not having to worry about endurance thanks to having a full set of Performance Shifter in Energy Absorbsion... 3 baddies and i'm full again...
I can imagine a lot of people not playing Ice because
    A) they don't like the look of the ice armor
    or
    B) Defense based tanks take a while to get going and you need to understand how Defense works to get the most out of them..

besides let everyone ignore the set... i like having a non-FOTM character
  19. I've never really seen another Earth/Emp Controller.. at least not on Victory where i play.. been playing him for a while and never saw the combo even have a guide written for it..
  20. ok i don't have dull pain auto.. and since when is it a tank's job to dish out damage? i thought that was for the brutes, scrappers and blasters to do? This was build as a damage taker.. it's a planned level 50 respec so it doesn't matter when i take anything.. i did take unstopable as a backup incase i'm getting smashed by something(s) since it caps my resistance on top of the soft capped S/L defense...
  21. so i'm working on a build for my Inv/SS tank.. he's not going to have a travel power (hurdle + CJ + Ninja Run should suffice) and i've found that having 3 powers that crash hard (hasten, rage <2 stacked>, and unstopable) is a death sentence always.. so i've come up with the following build which seems to be very close to soft capping defense to everything but psi.. 1 purple insp should cap non-psi where it's lacking.. is this going to be horrible to play?

  22. So if i wasn't going for all out DPS (it is a defender not a blaster) this isn't bad? oh and darkest night seems to floor even +1 lt's (haven't fought anything bigger yet) so do i need to go overkill on the -to hit in fearsome stare? BTW the slotting and power pics were from Darkity's slightly old guide... he said moonbeam and gloom were interchangeable since you can spam the snipe since not much can hit you..
  23. not to hijack the thread too much but this is what i came up with for a common IO only D3 build

    Is it any good?

  24. OMG! people do remember the show... you don't know how many people gave me strange looks when i described the show to them (even my parents who know i used to watch it religiously when it aired on PBS)... I found the first 3 "seasons" (more like story arcs.. too short for seasons) on DVD... i still think it's an amazing show to have been done in the 70's. I hope they put the rest out (i've seen web sites that show more than 3 story arcs)
