Actually... I don't like talking shop or getting into other peoples' business, but seriously whoever is currently maintaining the forums seems to be doing a pretty darn poor job. And I'm saying as a customer of Paragon Studios, about one of their contractors.

It's really past time to start looking for other options. If someone else thinks they can do this job, let them have the opportunity. Please.
  2. Yay! Nice items. These are the sorts of things I'd consider purchasing. I'm even using Mako's Bite and Touch of Death on a toon right now. Too bad I already bought all the regular ones I need.

Temp powers still too expensive. I used an XP boost that I got for free on a character during an ITF, and while I think it made a difference, I'm not sure. Not worth $5.60. Really needs to be less before I'd consider purchasing.

Same with return full health. $2.80 for five wakies? No. 50 cents, maybe.

Overall though a nice list. Want the leaves.
  3. If he didn't buy it from NC Soft, then I doubt a "ticket" is going to help him.
  4. Right, it's account wide, but if you only bought the male pieces, and not the whole pack, then female and huge models won't have pieces available. Also, male pieces that you didn't buy won't be available either.

Generally it's cheaper to buy the whole pack, although I haven't looked at Steampunk in particular. I don't even know if a "pack" is available for it, or if you have to buy all the individual pieces.

    New Project?

I've got a level 48 Shield Defense/War Mace tanker and I'm super happy how it's turning out with IOs. Not everybody's cup of tea, but fun. Electric+Shield seems to be a FotM, so maybe you could try that.

OTOH, for something rather different, level a Fort instead of a Crab. Crabs are fun, but again I've been super impressed with the flexibility of the Widow/Fort. You have three builds and you could have basically three very different play styles in one toon. I love my team centric control heavy Fort but you could also have a melee/psi Fort as well as a straight Night Widow build too all in the same toon.
  6. What else do folks think improved Dark Armor graphics should look like? I have to say I'm not a fan of purple bubbles and purple fuzz, which is what I think Warshade powers look like.

I wouldn't mind having an option to look like Negative Man from the Doom Patrol. I realize this blocks even more costume options, but for me as long as it's not fuzzy I don't mind too much.

  7. Do not, however, get a used one. If it says "played once" or "used" or "opened" then the code has been used, and you get nothing. I see a few listed there as new for $7, so add S&H and that might be $11 total to you, a very good deal.

I didn't want to suggest that the OP send in a bug report, since his friend wants to play, but I assume it is a bug, and might be fixed at some point. Hence my reply "not normally."

If your friend wants to play is Kheld for free, he has to be prepared to pay to unlock it, even if it's currently buggy and unlocked when it shouldn't. Just sayin: don't be surprised if this changes. Your friend should be made aware of the possibility.

No, not normally. Or at least only if you have to have enough time on your account to unlock it permanently. Or buy the unlock at the store.

So unless your friends wants to pay for the unlock, I don't think he should invest a lot of energy into epics. Unless he really likes them, then just get the unlock, or stick to VIP.

(Or I assume they do. It's honestly been a while since I've tried to level a toon with just the resources it generates. But drops do sell decently even at low levels.)

You dont have to buy every enhancement on your character. people used to take what dropped as part of the process of deciding what to slot when money was tight, and fill in the really important ones from the stores.

This is what I did with a new toon on Exalted.

    1. Run DFB starting from level 1. Pick Fly ASAP at level 4. Fly to Steel Canyon and sell SOs to the store that matches your origin. (I actually used the rocket board.)

    2. Now while standing in store, just enter the queue for DFB. When you exit the DFB, you'll be back at the store and can sell immediately.

    3. Keep doing that until level 15 or so. By then, it's worth it to start slotting the Enhc you can use. They're good SOs, and it's cheaper than buying.

    4. By level 17 I had half of a dozen SO Enhc slotted and 150k in the kitty.
  14. I could see reasons for the devs to never do this, but here's some other thoughts.

What if we could side grade an Incarnate power? Maybe with one less component or something. So it normally takes three salvage to make a Tier 1, what about two commons and another Tier 1? That would be at least something. Tier 2 normally takes two commons and an uncommon, so how about drop the uncommon crafting requirement and require another T2 instead? Etc. Each side grade could just drop the most expensive component and substitute a tier of the same level.

The only thing I really dislike about this is scrolling to find the recipe you want. I think the devs would have to consider a different interface to make this really accessible for the players. One way to prevent abuse and add a new UI might be to require players to go to a vendor in Ouroboros to convert Incarnate abilities. I'm picturing a guy with Empyrean wings and glowy eyes and overalls and a plumber's wrench. He's standing next to a magic forge (the base item) and offers to respec our Incarnate abilities for us. Add an 18 hour cool down and you're set.

So in other words he's nerfing the English language.

    WSF Nerfed?

It was an epically awesome nerf, that's for sure, totally.
  17. Not exactly. I believe the NC Soft store only supports gift cards for monthly time, not Paragon Points. So you could buy a friend a VIP membership for a month or two, or ask the parents for one yourself, but you can't just buy points with them.

Crab would work. They have just short of tank defenses, ranged attacks, melee attacks, team buffs and pets. Yes they're spider pets, but they're pets. Widow is pretty much the same except you don't get a pet, and you have Psy/claws in stead of gun/mace.

Bards are a little of everything. They generally have a bit of melee power, some spells (often focusing on illusion and crowd control), good buffs, and questionable defenses.
Corr or defenders. (Maybe Peace Bringer, but I don't play one.) Corrs more damage focused, defenders more team buff focused. Also, Illusion controller might work here.

Monks are your basic agile martial artist type.
Scapper, or maybe brute. Super reflexes, Willpower, invulnerability. Or look at Energy Aura if you want a stealthier character. Stalker or tank might also work. For offense, look at Street Justice or Dual Blades, both are fairly fast, agile sets.

Rogues are generally stalker-esque: agile, stealthy melee fighters that can be in big trouble if they don't fight on their terms. They also tend to have some utility such as disarming traps or unlocking loot chests or dungeon doors.
Stalker? Look at some pool powers for "utility." Like Recall Friend and Grant Invis to stealth a mission. The Medicine Pool might make you feel more broadly useful, could pair with more classes with it. Presence maybe, the fear might be useful, and Rogue-ish.

Support = corr, defender or controller (generally). Masterminds and doms too.
Melee = Tanker, scrapper, window, brute. Maybe stalker, although it has the weakest defenses.
Ranged = Blaster, Corr, Defender, Dom, Controller, Widow, Crab, PB/WS.
  19. If you can, post some analysis of what the attacker did. I'm always interested to see these things explained. Helps the rest of us with our security.

    Tank Help

My advice would be to try one of the Invulnerability builds. Shield Defense is fun but it didn't get "good" for me until around level 38 or so. Invulnerability gets Temp Invulnerability at level 1, which provides a huge amount of S/L resistance right away.

Invulnerability will have problems later with certain types of enemies (Toxic, Psi) but those do go away eventually, and it's darn tough against anything else.

It might not even have these problems any more; my experience leveling an Invulnerability Tanker was pre-IOs and pre-Inherent Stamina. Inherent Stamina in particular should give you more power picks earlier and allow you to be tougher sooner.
  21. The copy tool has been broke for a while. I believe you can ask for a level bump on Test however. Find folks with NCsoft_ in their name to ask. Usually on test in the afternoons Pacific time.

Apparently due to strong, "non-teen" language. Here's a link to a Shortpacked comic that does not use strong language. You may click the previous or next buttons on the comic navigation if you like.

    Batman gets meds

David Willis, of Shortpacked and It's Walky fame, did a couple of comics which asked the question: What if Batman got finally got some treatment for his issues? Funny stuff.

Apparently due to strong, "non-teen" language, according to the private message I got. Here's a link to a Shortpacked comic that does not use strong language. You may click the previous buttons on the comic navigation if you want to read the comic at the start of the sequence. The "previous" link contains some innocuous use of the s-word.

    Free2play?

Also, registering a copy of Architect Edition will give you one month of VIP, and up to two Token Rewards for building those Tiers. If you have a copy with a still good code, go ahead and register it. It's probably the best (and cheapest) way to start out.

Note that buying cheap game DVDs online that are "used" or "previously played" or whatever mean that the code has been used and is no good any more. Just sayin.
  25. I don't think he needs new graphics drivers if the lag is in the network.

Not sure what to say. Your ping from above looks good, but it seems to degrade sometimes. Router?

Also might be a piece of equipment on Cox's side. You might have to call them and complain. Try to get a bandwidth speed test while you are having trouble. (Quit the game when yellow and red bars show up, and run a speed test right away.) Gripe if you are not getting the bandwidth you are paying for.
