Quote:There are poewers that grant 'extremely high defense bonus to all attacks' (from the power description) but the bonus is like 2.25%. That does not seem 'extremely high' to me. there are a bunch of defense powers that are like 2 or 3%. That sounds LOW to me, but is there some mechanical thing I'm unaware of that makes it signifigant? Thanks.
2.25% is not high. Which power is saying that? -

Yes, any box edition should add one month of VIP time, but only once for each edition.
The in-game-store item, Going Rogue, that you purchase with Paragon Points, does NOT add any VIP time. Just to be clear.
Bummer about the support thing, but yes that's the way it works. F2P is definitely self-help; i.e., you got to come here and bug us about it. -
Quote:Again in my opinion, the reason you see no female pets is... cost cutting.
This.
The devs have said explicitly that new mastermind sets are expensive to produce, and can't be proliferated to other ATs, so it's pretty much a one shot deal. That means a lot of development time and money, for somewhat smaller player reward and payoff.
I'd love to see some female and mixed gender MM sets as well as power customization for MM primaries, but I think the financials are just that we are going to wait a long time, if it ever happens at all. -
They *just* had a sale on VIP subscriptions. 7 months for $77, or $11 per month. I don't know if that sale is still available, but if you log into your account management page and click on your CoH subscription, there used to be a banner ad near the bottom of the page for it.
Welcome back. Be sure to mention what server you play on, as the Global channels are the best way to get teams in the game (and as a Tier 6 Premium, you do have access to all global channels). The new incarnate content is fun too, you should check it out. -
Quote:The former [buying points] is the fastest, the latter [VIP subscription] is the cheapest. They're kind of mutually exclusive.
Just pointing out that the VIP subscription is cheapest BY FAR. I'm paying about $11 per month right now for VIP. For that I get the Incarnate stuff, Signature Story Arcs, 400 free points per month, and a reward point each month, plus any other "VIP Free" doodads they toss my way. It's an incredibly efficient way to earn rewards.
Yes, you miss out on one shiny (the current Tier 9). But I believe the devs have said that any Tier 9 reward that goes away will be made available again at some point in the future. Either as a store/point item, or as a rotating Tier 9 reward. (I think they said that; I'm not going to double check.)
So if you're just patient you'll get all the rewards eventually. It's really only if you need the current Tier 9 that you have to drop a couple of bills in the Paragon Store. -
It's an interesting idea, but we already have blappers too, so not sure what the need would be either.
Personally I think more power customization is needed. Some sets are really locked into a particular look and theme, and I'd like to bust out of that a little more so that more players could have their character *look* just the way they want. -
Yeah just go to your account management screen with NC Soft and cancel the billing. Pretty easy to do.

I thought the pack option was labeled "Classic Steampunk" in the costume editor.

Quote:Correct; Defensive/Stay works fine for Bodyguard, which is handy for things like pulling AVs to a killing spot, keeping them at range,
I use Follow for this. Follow has a gap of about 10 seconds or so before pets revert to "normal" behavior. Your pets will *just* follow you, and not do anything else. However, if you use Defensive *and* Follow, you'll get both: bodyguard mode *and* pets that follow you around and ignore attacks by enemies.
Then just make a key-bind and spam it while pulling. Works super excellent, I use it all the time.
Quote:One other thing which can be annoying or handy, depending on how you use it, after you issue a "defend" command, there is a several second pause before the pets will start shooting stuff.
Nope, you're using Defensive Follow, not just Defensive. Edit the macro you're using (you can even edit the ones that the game gives you to start) and remove the Follow command. See if that changes the behavior (it will).
It's Follow that gives that pause, not Defensive. You can switch pets to Defensive right in the middle of a fight and gain bodyguard mode immediately and your pets will NOT pause, as long as you don't also issue a Follow command. -

Quote:As I understand it, bodyguard mode is active while my pets are set to defensive and follow. If something attacks me and the pets start attacking, does the bodyguard damage splitting still occur? The pet window still displays my pets being in defensive and follow mode, was just wondering if that was in fact indicative of whether bodyguard was on.
Almost: the pets just require defensive, not follow. Also they need to be "close" to you--actually they need to be in Supremacy range, which is 80 feet. That's quite a ways, but Supremacy is also blocked by Line of Sight, so small objects around you can take one or more pets out of bodyguard mode quite easily.
Hint: Flight and Hover are your friends. Get a bit above the battlefield, and there are fewer objects to break Line of Sight.
Also you can watch the icons on your pets, if you have them enabled. Supremacy is visible, and you can also see Tactics, Maneuvers, etc. If your pets don't have other AoE buffs on them, they don't have Supremacy.
Lastly, use the Combat window if you are unsure. Bodyguard mode is visible there. It will tell you how much damage your pets are absorbing. -
I think it would help if the queue showed the number of people waiting. That would give folks more incentive to join when the number of folks got close to what was required. It would also allow one to, for example, see that there's 2 people in the queue now, form a team of 6, and join the queue and get 8, which would mean more folks would be encouraged to join the queue solo since they'd get teams more often.
It would also help if the "wait times" were at least sorta-kinda accurate. Right now they're just pure fiction.
Quote:But, the most important part of the system that other MMO uses is that while you are waiting to join an event, you can quest. So, waiting isn't an issue. Hopefully, after issue 22, the LFG system will actually work more like that other MMO and actually be used.
Yes, this would be massive big huge improvement. Do you know if this is actually being worked on for 22 or are you just speculating? -

Quote:So when do you use inspirations and when and do you have any advice on when and where to use them?
Whenever I see the "Inspirations Full" message. That means to use them, because none are dropping until you do. Usually that means I use a yellow and a red and either a purple or an orange. Then I try to combine a couple into something useful. In a pinch delete anything I can't use or don't use often, because they're just taking up space.
Other times to use them: about to soak an alpha from a big spawn; have some buffs already and want to be even more awesome; about to do something stupid; about to do something awesome; it's Tuesday; or just anytime I feel the need to keep the XP and fun flowing. -
Cat masterminds were attempted but found to be unworkable. It wasn't one of Posi's better ideas.
This is from my sources deep, deep, DEEP inside Paragon Studios. -
I did a quick search on your graphic card. It's a budget, entry level graphics card that'll work for most games if you keep the settings modest.

Quote:So I'd turn down the settings to performance, and reduce the resolution to less than 1,280 by 1,024. Your graphics card probably isn't capable of much more no matter what game you're playing.Originally Posted by PC MagazineYou still won't be able to play intense 3D titles at high resolutions, but if you're looking for an inexpensive discrete solution, you won't be able to go much lower in price than this and still be able to game. -
I'm sure he means the latter one, but yes I read it as the first one too initially.
Summary: I think everyone is saying the CE purchase will allow you to add both time and the CE "rewards" to your current account. -
I don't think the lieuts are mezzable either, by any means. Anyone know specifically?
When I'm playing a toon with good single target damage, I usually target the lieuts and chase them down, because they aren't going to stop no matter what you do, so they have to be damaged as fast as possible. It seems to be a good strategy, never had much of a problem with escapees on a BAF when I'm doing that. -
It would be a nice set of alternate animations for Sonic though.
I have a little sonic, and while I like the numbers on the set, the constant growl and scream gets on my nerves. I'd like a different set of *sound effects* for the set. Doesn't have to be musical instruments or fancy, but yeah something sound oriented (like music or opera singing) would be a nice alternative. -
This, of course. Whether the restrictions are necessary or effective I suppose is open to debate, but please be polite when discussing the issue. The devs didn't do it thoughtlessly or without a plan.
Personally, I think we should continue on a while as things are, then see about opening up more forums if things go well. I think the archetypes forums should be the next set of forums to open up, as new folks and F2P would probably find them the most useful. -
I'm all face-slapped. I mean, look at these red marks. Well, that's cranberry juice, but still ... face-slapped!!!

I think your reward is access to incarnate content.
