  1. Yes, if you're just totally lost, someone could let you tag along for some missions and show you around to the various contacts. The DFB trial is good for just gaining levels, not so good for learning the game.

I play on Champion, I have four 50's there. I'd be willing to give you a quick tour of some of the starting zones and important contacts. If others want to do the same, that's great. Reply here if you want to do that, and then give me a tell in game to set up like a time and date or something (you can send /tell in game, correct?).

    Good luck.

    Also, Fusionette in 3 rounds.

I had a thought while reading your reply, so just for the heck of it, here goes: We have Primal Earth, Praetorian Earth, Warrior Earth and Reichsman's home dimension. But shouldn't there be more "copies" of our universe out there? I'm thinking somewhere there should be a large number of somewhat divergent Earths.

So make a number of dimensions (or one dimension with several programmable options) where we can save it or destroy it as we please. Then that dimension will be permanently attached to our character, and we could go there when we please, or even there may be some missions (Portal Corp?) where we go there. It could work a bit like bases, although with a lot less options. Just save or destroy, some options for how much destruction, and some options for killing (or saving) certain NPCs, and how much the public loves or fears or loathes or doesn't care about our character.

Hard to do, as I'm seeing several zones worth of work here, but could be fun.
  4. I think you just have to let it finish downloading. Try exiting the game and then starting it again if you're truly stuck, but look for a meter or % complete first.

    Stalker or Tanker.

Recommend Martial Arts/Ninjitsu or Kantana/Ninjitsu Stalker, or Shield Defense/Super Strength or Invulnerability/Super Strength Tanker. War Mace is also a lot of fun on a Tanker.

There's not much content lockout, but as a F2P newb you'll be under some pretty heavy anti-spam restrictions. You won't be able to /broadcast (/shout or /yell) in chat, or use direct tells, or trade with other players or join Super Groups (guilds). This isn't a huge deal when first starting, but eventually you'll want to spring for a little $$ to relieve some of those straight jackets ($5 is the minimum, unless you catch a sale), as the restrictions get old. Use the Help Channel if you have questions.

    Good luck!

Actually that goes for me too. Send me a tell in game: "/t @gameboy1234, ... message... " If you have a question. Don't forget the comma after the name, it's important. Even if a person is off-line, they'll get the tell when they log in if you send it to their global (with the @ sign).
  7. I sometimes have a theme in mind, and try to match it with colors, and trying different parts in the costume creator for different body positions. It's a lot of careful back and forth to decide what really looks best for each character. I often start with something close in the drop down ("Doctor", "Fighter", "Tech Armor") but then go and modify it from there one piece at a time.

But mostly I just steal ideas from other players....

  8. Hi!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome back (Carter), and what server to you play on?

At level 7, don't worry about it much. Just play. You can start thinking about badaxe when you get to level 47.

For starters, check out Twinshot's arc in Atlas Park. It's new, and a lot of fun. Then roll a new toon, and jump on a DFB from the folks running them (also in Atlas Park). Wear your seat belt though, it's a wild ride.
  9. Consider Energy Blast or Energy Assault (Dominators), just because it colorizes well.

Power Bolt - w/ lots of Accuracy, = Magic Missile

    Power Blast - = Disintegrate.

Total Focus - = Hold Person

What do you consider "random-minor-story-arc?" Because there's a lot of older content in the game that I'd consider to be somewhat primitive, but I wouldn't call it "minor" either. It's got decently written plots, good intro text from the contact, and generally some good plot twists.

Especially in Sharkhead, I like Diviner Maros's stuff, and Darrin Wade, and Dean MacArthur, and Doc Buzzsaw. These had especially well written arcs. However, except for the newer arcs, the missions themselves tend to be a little bland, as the older technology for missions wasn't really that great.

OTOH I found many of the other contacts to be uniformly bland. Again, these are older missions that were using the old tech.

One thing not to miss as VIP and level 20+: Tip missions, they tend to be a bit more sophisticated and interesting in the mission. More people to talk to, more ambushes or interaction, more active for the player. Also the rewards are excellent, be sure to check out Fort Trident and The Crucible for ways to spend your Tip mission loot.

Another thing: there's some special missions coming up for Valentine's Day. I haven't tried them yet (they're available on the beta server) but so far they are getting rave reviews. Definitely look those up as soon as they show up on live.

Lastly: global channels, global channels, global channels. Get on the channels for your server. It's like belonging to a guild with 2500 members, and it's awesome.
  11. D, probably just about 3 billion if you count all characters.

The $50 purchase will leave you with 4600 - 3 x 1200 = 1000 points "banked," so the next time you purchase 200 or more points, you'll get the 4th token. I.e., buying $5 worth of points at some later point would net you a token.

    Launcher Reset?

On my system it just appears in the regular list of programs in the Start menu, under NCSoft.

In Windows 7, you can also right click on it and pick "pin to task bar" which will add it permanently to the task bar so you can always just click on it (not bottom right in this image).

  14. Also a good point. If you can find a new copy of GR or GR CE, you can add quite a lot of goodies to your account, plus 30 days of VIP time, for less than the usual $15. Once applied, those goodies are permanent (afaik).

Also a good point is to only get "new, factory sealed." If a disc says "played once" or "returned" or "used," then the code inside has been used, and the disc is practically worthless.

    Hey Guys

My launcher appears to be at:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\NCSoft\Launcher

Look there for an NCLauncher.exe file.

This is a good point, the OP is only one PP away from global channels. If money is really tight, buying some things in the store seems like a viable option to me. The OP could buy the alignment system (also free for VIPs), which is another big deal as you level to 20. The goodies in Fort Trident and The Crucible are not to be ignored. Along with market access you could make a lot of dough.

OTOH, if money is not too much of an issue then VIP status gets you all of the above and then some.

My badger is a mastermind, and over all I'm very happy with it. "Gray hunts" are great. I put the bots on Aggressive and cruise around. Stuff dies automagically! I also think the Prot bots count for healing when they heal your own pets. I have healing badges and I don't see how I got them with just Aid Other.

For some healing PvP badges, lock Aid Other on a bot, set that bot to aggressive, and *it* will use attacks while you heal.
  19. Hmm, well 20 is a good time to get think about VIP. I think the salvage system and auction house are important if you want to have in game money for your character to get stuff.

They periodically have sales on VIP memberships. I'm currently paying about $11 per month, a pretty significant savings over the standard rate. If you can swing a six month sub, they're very effective.

Otherwise, you can play pretty effectively for $5 per month. Buy both the auction house and invention licenses, and use the remainder to buy some small costume items in the store. The big thing you are missing with only 4 badges are the global channels, and those are kind of a big deal.

Finally on the Certain Other Game ... I don't often role play ... and when I do ... make mine pencil and paper please.

  21. Not rushing to the end-game used to be standard advice when the game didn't have much of an end-game. It's still valid advice, but now there's actually content at 50+ so it's also more understandable to want to get to that point.

If you do decide to rush to the end-game, make sure to practice your altitis and make a new toon to level up more slowly. A lot of old-timers are used to doing this, and you'll be surprised at the company you meet along the way.
  22. Yeah? Well it's better than gazing into the face shield of Arbiter Dark Death LORD!

Just FYI, I don't understand this request. Don't all tights stretch completely over female's breasts? Are you referring perhaps to the pulled up zipper, or the corset?

I agree with the pulled down zipper one. In general, we needs a few more neckline options, imo, for both men and women.
  24. Besides the Wiki, there's also the old RedTomax database which is now maintained by CoH Titan. It's a very helpful guide to picking powers and understanding classes (ATs) regardless of your experience level with City of Heroes.

    New Dark Astoria

If they added the fog back, you couldn't see the red war walls or the stars, which imo are a big part of the current ambiance.

Also, I think they had to completely redo the lighting in the new DA, which is not trivial on a 3D map. As mentioned the old DA was actually sunny without the fog, whereas the new one is actually dark and has a lot of sparsely, and interestingly, lit places.
