Can you not change the settings before you load the game?
I have that setting checked as well, but it only shuts down AFTER I click on CoH and "Play". I can change settings as I see fit prior to that.
I feel like I'm missing something. Is there some way to "auto-play" the game that I'm unaware of?

You need to run the launcher rather than the game. When you run City of Heroes, it opens the launcher briefly then kills it as per your specifications. You need to find the program labeled NCsoft launcher and run that, should open it and let you mess with the settings.
On my system it just appears in the regular list of programs in the Start menu, under NCSoft.
In Windows 7, you can also right click on it and pick "pin to task bar" which will add it permanently to the task bar so you can always just click on it (not bottom right in this image).
I was using the COH shortcut to the launcher. Going to the launcher directly brought it up so I could adjust the settings. Essentially a 'duh' moment. Thanks for the helpful replies.
I took some advice from another thread and click 'turn off launcher at after game load' ... and now want to get back to the settings of the launcher. How do I reset the launcher to defaults or allow it to stay up long enough for me to click on the settings?
