Better luck to you in finding one of those teams sometime. *shrugs*

The funny thing was that after I quit the team (because I don't have interest in badges, and particularly wasting extra time in pursuit of them), they messaged me after I was in a mission to indicate that they had given up on master of, and were just doing it normally. However since they had already wasted 20 minutes of my time before that, I declined. Then I got on a Apex team after finishing my mission. That team got master of Apex. That's wasn't much trouble. We just had to follow instructions and play competently.
  2. OK, thanks. That explains it. It also indicates that I'll probably never bother doing a master run. Good thing I'm indifferent to badges.
  3. Ok, I almost ran a Tin Mage TF last night. Someone was recruiting, and eventually mentioned doing a 'master of' run. I assumed I could come as I was for the party, but once the team (finally) got organized, the leader starting producing a shopping list of needed stuff to accomplish the TF for the badge. At this point, wanting to play rather than collect temp powers, I bailed on the team.

What I recall from the list was:
    Bio Nuke
    Chem Nuke
    Jet Pack (understandable)
    Shivans
    Envenomed Daggers
(don't recall anything else, but I can't guarantee it's all)

Personally I hate picking up the nukes, and don't really care for getting shivans anymore either. I despise venturing into the PVP zones because of DR, and simply avoid them (but that's another rant).

What I don't understand from this is why the shopping list is needed at all. Sure, I can understand making sure everyone can fly since you need to get past the trip mines without setting them off, but what other requirement of the 'master of' could demand such an overstock of power boost. I simply don't recall the TF being even close to that bad.

    Stability

Well I won't say the Mac client has always been rock solid, but i19 hasn't done it any favors. Given the new TFs and the renewed popularity of LGTF, I spend a lot of time in RWZ. The exit from the Vanguard base into the zone is a fairly consistent crash producer on my machine. I will either lock up with the screen frozen or simply quit to desktop. This is somewhat disappointing since i18 had improved stability on my Mac.

    Sonic Resonance
There isn't any set in the game that performs so badly, IMO, that I would never play it. But at least of the "buff/debuff" sets out there this one comes the closest for me. And while it doesn't exactly have an army of PR reps on the boards or in game trying to sell it, for some reason the set seems to get a free pass from a lot of people because it "has debuff."

There also appears to be what I can only describe as a kind of cooperative mythology surrounding Sonic Resonance, as it is often said that it is "good on teams that are already soft capped." Well, ok, if you did happen to min/max your team or got lucky in that way Sonic R might add... something. That is if Thermal Radiation didn't exist. Sonic Res, for what it's worth, feels like the off-tank of buff/debuff sets. The only time it's good is when you probably didn't need it.
I have no idea when you could get the idea that sonic resonance is overhyped. In my experience it is the least common buff/debuff set out there, and there's a reason for that. It does a few things pretty well, but it's got serious issues, and is in my experience not overly well regarded (though oddly enough when I do bring out my sonic/sonic def, people are quite happy to have him along because of the sets). They are really only strong in one area, resistance debuff, and bring not much else to the table compared to other sets.

    Cold Domination
Actually Cold Domination is quite a nice set. What I want to address specifically is the notion that Cold Domination is a replacement for Force Field. It's not. I'm not going to say Force Field isn't a set that could use some buffs. But anytime someone says they would "always take a Cold over a Force Field" I'm left with the immediate impression they are someone who has little first hand experience with the relative strengths and weakenesses of an actual support set, and is viewing both sets only in light of what they would provide for their best characters on the toughest fights in the game. Ironically, it is this same focus that IMO tends to elevate Sonic Resonance higher than it really deserves.
I would easily take a cold over a FF any day and twice on Sundays. They are not even comparable sets. FF is a pretty much few trick pony. You, you can buff defense really well, give status protection to those around you and do some tossing around of enemies. I'll take the combination of defense buff, resistance debuff, regen debuff, slows, and endurance buff over that any day. Now a FF member on a team which is composed of SOed squishies is a wonderful thing. However, in a world of IOs and fairly common softcapping (or at least decent defense IO buffs), FF ends up being overkill, and once that trick is unimportant the set falls flat.

    Defender Blasts in General
I'm going to catch heck for this, but I guess I'm a risk taking guy. Defender blasts are not exactly "low damage." But over and over again I see statements about "Defenders who know how to buff and also do damage." Well, truthfully, Defender damage is not that great. It is not even kind of great. Like it or not, when you play a Defender, you become a buff bot of sorts. It's not that you shouldn't blast--especially if your blasts have useful debuffs. But the notion that the average team really cares whether their Empathy or Force Field Defender is constantly blasting is at least partially unfounded. At the least, you could probably get away with having ~2 good single target attacks and an AoE or 2, and the only people who would really care are the ones who troll power selections in order to bait you with insults. Anything you add above that should be viewed as more less what they are, tools for soloing.
I would strongly beg to differ here. Now let's assume that a defender only does, say, 50% of the damage of a blaster if they are both doing their jobs (heck, you can make it 40% and it wouldn't change my argument). This means the defender is buffing and blasting.

Do you know of a single blaster out there that wouldn't kill for a 40% damage increase? Yes, the defender won't be putting up the real big numbers, but the damage still counts, and it counts just as much as if it were just a boost to the damage dealers.

Umm, 'overhyped' means well regarded beyond their capabilities. Stalkers are easily the least well regarded AT in the game to the extent that they are almost never asked for when assembling a team (though of course, this isn't to say people will not take them on teams). As you yourself say, a scrapper can pretty much clearly out do them (as can a brute). They have no reputation to be regarded as 'overhyped'.

Personally I like playing stalkers, but I am under no illusion that they are an uber AT.

Oh, you are calling out my post because of ad hominems, but then start doing your own. Pot meet kettle, you're both black.
I'm not sure you understand the term.

    What did I say:
    A) 'You have been whining about this since Beta'- demonstrably true. I can go back to those forums and cite examples
    B) 'You want the game to be a walkthrough' an interpretation of your position based on your continual complaints about these TFs and the Incarnate arc being too hard.

    Quote:
And you continue to use ad hominems. Also the game is cheating.
Again, you don't know what the term means.

"If your idea of feeling more powerful is being able to walk all over the opposition, go wipe swarms of grays in Perez." is not an insult. It's an example how how you can feel powerful if you like.

On top of that, the game can't cheat. The rules are defined by the developers, and that ends that discussion. You might not like the rules as constructed and modified on occasion, but you don't get to define them.

    Quote:
If you want hard, then you should ask for difficulty settings that actually mean something. Oh, and ad hominem #3.
This last complaint completely demonstrates you have no understanding of the term 'ad hominem'. You seem to think disputing your argument is a personal attack. It is not. I hold no particular opinion as to you personally. I just consider your arguments to be bunk. The TFs in question are hard, but fun and doable. As many others have stated they will be figured out in due time (like every other 'hard' content in the game) and then solved to an extent that people will effectively breeze through them with a competent team.

I will stand by my statement that overcoming hard content is a measure of powerful.

These TFs are fun, and very doable if people care to figure out how to do them.

If your idea of feeling more powerful is being able to walk all over the opposition, go wipe swarms of grays in Perez.

Some people have a different notion of powerful. It's tied to being able to actually accomplish something hard.
  9. As for the most overhyped combo, I'm going to go with Electric Melee/ Shield Defense. This is pretty much purely because of the former and not the latter. Electric Melee is a vastly overhyped set (speaking as someone with 2 ElM characters at 50). The set does pathetic single target damage, and the AOE is flashy, but nowhere near as good as people think. Hell, War Mace trumps it hard.

Umm, storm isn't a control set.

    Wait, what others? Oh. Darn.
Quantum of Solace was a dog due to the writer's strike as well.
  12. I have no beef with the idea of a personal DPS meter so I can actually track how changes I make on my character work out. A public DPS meter is , to put it mildly, a real bad idea.
  13. Had my common done the evening of the release day after one ITF which was very generous to me. I got enough shards where coupled with the nictus fragment, I was able to make my cardiac common.

Then a couple of TFs later, on the next day I was able to get my uncommon core cardiac done.

As long as you fire off all of your rifle attacks and then switch to Crab Spider / patron attacks (or vice versa) you should be fine, but trying to alternate back and forth between them will get old fast.
I've been running with Single Shot, Burst and Gloom, and it does seem to work out pretty well even with the redraw. The DPAS of the actual crab single target attacks are utterly miserable, so I decided to respec into the gun ones. It definitely has improved my single target performance.

    Servers are up!

Logged in and did my respec for inherent fitness, but my connection here is so miserable that it isn't worth doing the Remmiel arc. I'll wait till I get home.
  16. So how much time does it actually take for weapon redraw? I'm considering aspects of a respec, and it's an important point on my crab spider. Assume I'm going from gloom to the wolf spider rifle.
  17. I found the first episode to be so painfully bad that I couldn't make it through it. The hosts had had no chemistry and could not even deliver their lines in a way that made them sound like they had any interest in being there. The first few minutes of the episode about what was coming in the season looked like a list of ripped off moments from the BBC version.

I have better things to do with my time than watch crap.
  18. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to figure out a build without them. I never even thought to check and has been planning on some of the endurance boosting APPs powers.

  20. Ok, so I make a wolf spider build, and migrate it to heroside, full hero. I then level up to 41, and viola, no APP access. Does this actually mean I have to move him back to villain and do a damned patron arc?

You know, the devs hating villains is something of a cliche, but who knew they hated ex-villains as well?

No one with any sense of "parity" would expect Empathy (or any other Buffing set) to be improved to solo as well as Rad (or especially Dark), but some kind of adjustment could be made without improving their team strength so that they (team-buffers) could solo better.
They did something to this effect with the defender damage buff which is maximum while solo and scales down with team size. Personally I think it's a bit lacking, and won't come close to make me solo a defender (I even find damage on the debuff sets to be unsatisfying).

I've just given up on that kind of balance happening. It would be nice if it happened, but I don't see it as likely.

And the empath and bubble defenders would do utterly lousy damage. The kin, OTOH might actually get rather powerful, but would still probably lag a blaster in damage even if they did get to fulcrum shift all the time.

That's the thing people tend to forget, even at the damage cap, a defender's damage is still rather underwhelming.

Corrupters with the higher damage scalar and damage cap would be more of an issue IMO. Then again a kinetics corrupter already gets the way high damage from fulcrum shift, and we don't see those breaking the game.

Personally I don't see all that much downside in letting the buffing classes self buff. However, I have other options so I don't get worked up over it. I can just play a SoA which is a good damage class that does force multiplication on the side.

  24. Hmm. If I weren't a GL fan before hand I may well have skipped this one. That trailer failed to impress me. However as I'm a sucker for comic book movies, I will see it nonetheless.
  25. I have plenty of characters that won't be updated for inherent fitness. I just don't happen to play them anymore so that makes it easy.
