I'm confused as to why you went cold mastery and didnt pick up Frozen Armor and instead try to cap to S/L rather than Ranged. Building for Ranged defense typically requires alot of 6 slotting for bonuses. Looking over your build you've got Health way overslotted IMO for a blaster.
I made a build for an SG mate that caps to S/L. Review this build over - hopefully it'll give you some ideas. You'll have to tailor it though with your own powers (for example you'll need to swap out leaping for fly).

I also have a Storm/Sonic/Power Mastery defender although my build goal was Ranged Defense not Recharge (build is posted below). I can definitely agree with the above poster and Screech - fast animation / good stun effect and in my case works with Total Focus.

If no to both then you'll have to settle for a Ranged DEF toon and joust with your melee attacks in combat? -
I'm considering making a second build for my Storm/Sonic/x Defender who'll primarily be in zone or pickup teams or occasional 1 on 1s. I have 0 experience with pvp in its current incarnation so I'd like to pose a few questions.
1) Is it worth the time and investment on a Defender? Isn't a corruptor a better choice?
2) Herdicane used to be pretty decent back in the day - how is Herdicane now? (Can one "pin" another player in the corner say in the office map for example)
3) From what I've read one needs to build keeping in mind 41 points of KB protection / use sets that boost total HP (Titanium in RES powers and Devastations in the blasts) / movement (SS + CJ + slotted Swift + slotted Hurdle)
4) Build suggestions and Power choices ? Power Mastery (for Power Buildup/Temp Invul/Force of Nature/Total Focus) or Electricy Master (for PSink / Charged Armor).
Power choices such as Leadership vs Medicine / Siren's song (would it be handy vs say Bubbled MMs).
I'll post a build up with slotting once I get home (although I know for the blasts for example I'd go with 2 Tstrikes and 3 Devastations).

On two of my ninjitsu stalkes I have it slotted with 2 DEF Buffs IOs and either the Karma KB Protection IO or LOTG 7.5% recharge IO.

It seems like it makes more sense to talk about the mob size at which defense hits the softcap.
Any advice on slotting Invulnerability?
P.S. I'd prefer verbal advice to posted builds, because I can't get Mids on my Mac.

Quote:Perfectly summed up.A Kin/Rad Defender or a Fire/Rad Controller would both be very handy on most TFs. The Ill/FF would also be nice but FF just offers protection while Kin or Rad boost kill speed so as long as people aren't dying often most teams would probably prefer to steamroll faster.
As far as the villains go, a Widow is always handy (be sure to take the Leadership pool as well for double buffs). The Stalker may play the same, but he doesn't make everyone around him harder to hit and up their damage like a Widow does. -

Burst/Slug/Buckshot/SniperRifle/Flamethrower/Full Auto may be tailored for personal sets - I just wanted to numerically make it functional. The two pets have roughly an SO's worth for their respective traits (Acc/Dmg/End/Rech).

Done - I didnt take any screenies or film it but it was done on my level 50+1 Electric/Electric/Mace S/L softcapped close range blaster. I got lucky and had only one Chief Mesmerist and two Chief Soldiers (All Level 54 Boss class critters) in the spawn. No inspirations/temps just ample use of the two holds, Short Circuit and Power Sink.

That way if you dont like how a power feels mechanically (like the animation is too long or your AoE chain doesnt flow right) and you end up hating the set - you didnt do it on live. -

I looked at your build and by no means am I an expert on Dark/Ice. I do have an almost soft capped Ranged Dark/Sonic/Fish Defender (44.17% to Ranged/50% Recharge build) and much of the build that I post below is based on that experience. The build below softcaps you to Ranged however it has only 36% recharge BUT it is cheaper (in terms of Sets used) and in terms of functionality may be better (ie Ice Storm is slotted up). My experience with Fluffy reflects my slotting - imo he's best slotted with 2 Acc/Mez HOs and then the rest of the slots - suit to taste. I know that you can easily softcap yourself to ranged with just one luck but you may draw some ideas from this build.

2. I'm not sure what one considers a large effort but 3 sets of Smashing Haymakers, Taunt slotted with either 4 Mocking or 6 Zingers, Steadfast IO in Permafrost, Combat Jumping and Fighting Pool (for Weave) and I'm at 50% S/L (or slightly over).
3. I've only played (to a high degree or to 50) SS and Fire. I cant imagine that Ice would be bad with any primary. -

I've reposted your build and looked it over. You have nice sets but it's like you didnt have a goal in mind. For me - getting an Invul to the S/L cap with one critter in Invincibility was my primary goal then rounding out some of my DEF / RES values and improving my ability to tank.
I'm pretty sure this is my current build. It was pretty inexpensive - maybe 200 million? as I got lot of sets from merits.

Perhaps you can draw some ideas from there (move some slots around - etc - I'd definately keep the whole set of Oblits that you have for example. -
