    Welcome back!
  2. I'd like to bring my rad/kin corr, Azure Spirit or my earth/earth dom, Kiyoshii.

Argument: If a lvl 50 recipe sells for 10 mil, then the lvl 35 recipe should sell for less than 10 mil.
If that's the case, why in the world would anyone want to trade in the lvl 35 space? From a marketeering point of view, even if there's customers, if they aren't willing to pay as much as lvl 50s do, there's little incentive in doing the work for 10 tips to get an A-merit and rolling it, only to discover that said recipes will only fetch 60% of what a lvl 50 recipe would sell for.
My advice to those who want midlevel stuff: if you want it so badly, go work for it yourself.

I've been playing for a year and one of the things that I noticed is that folks just want to join teams, not lead one. Unfortunately, there are much, much more joiners than leaders and more often than not, teams are full but there's still a lot of people looking to team. In fact, I see team crying in broadcast like this:
    Toon1: Lvl 20 brute lft
    Toon2: Lvl 22 dom lft
    Toon3: Where is the facemaker?
    Toon4: south of the map
    Toon1: Lvl 20 brute lft
    Toon5: Lvl 25 mm lft
    Toon2: Lvl 22 dom lft
Toon6: Hecatomb for sale, pst w price
    Toon5: Lvl 25 mm lft
    Toon1: Lvl 20 brute lft
    Toon7: Lvl 18 scrapper lft
    Toon2: Lvl 22 dom lft

As you can see, 4 toons looking for team, and not one of them will take up the gauntlet and lead.
I played in Triumph, a low population server, and am able to run a team with at least 4 people everytime I log there.

    In Blackest Day

If you're playing villain, I suggest corruptor. Can't have enough of those around, especially for strikeforces. I suggest reading Silas' guide about corruptors.
/rad - debuff, buffs, some heals
    /cold - shields, debuff, -regen
    /therm - shields, buff, heals

Dominators are useful too, especially in Tin Mage against berserk kitties.

No and I will venture far enough to say to don't bother rolling any MM unless you just want to stop at 50. Consider the following:
ITF - MMs are very rarely invited. If they are, it's because the leader can't find anyone else. The last MM that I teamed with died so much that I recommended that he stay by the door and tp anyone that dies so that he can rez them.
Also, for the last mission, the healing nictus can use the pets to provide healing to Rommy. Pets do not provide sufficient DPS to overcome the healing. The MM must also make sure that the pets are on Rommy instead of uselessly hitting the various Nictus spawns.
LRSF - maybe a poison MM, but leader is more likely to pick a damage or debuff toon.
Apex, Tin Mage - pets die so fast... any Bubblers and Traps might be useful... if they're not dead yet.

For MS Raids, if you're a MM/FF, teams will want you. For the 5th Column SF, any MM type may be useful just to get the power to prevent Reichs from phasing. However, it is possible to have enough debuff and damage to overcome Reich's regen. Still, the MM is invited to the team just to get the temp power. Any help that the MM gives is icing on the cake.

Other than that, other ATs are preferred over MMs for lvl 50 content.

I agree on Rocky (yes, that is my nickname for him as well). I spawned him at the beginning of the last mission in ITF and was planning to dismiss him when we got to Rom.
    I forgot.
I only noticed he was still there after Rom rezzed the 2nd time.
One of the drawbacks to earth that I noticed is that the mobs must be on the ground. If the target is in the air, like the hami, attack options are limited. There is the hurl boulder attack, but its animation takes so long.
I made several doms, but Earth/earth is the one that I liked well enough to get to 50.
I once got invited to an AE arc that had a giant AV robot that spawns at the end. There were 3 of us, ranging from 30 - 47. I think I was around 45 at the time. We attacked the AV and my other 2 team mates died. I popped Surge of Power and spammed holds. Me and my pets, Rocky and Mu guardian pretty much tanked it until it went down while the other 2 tried to rez themselves. At the time, I didn't know much about set IOs, so my dom was frankenslotted with whatever I picked up.

    Freedom Channel

The Channel op has to kick someone else off the channel to get you in.
  10. By yourself, you can get shards via paper/radio missions, cimerora missions (see Sis Arlia) and tips. Shard drop is higher for bosses and Lts, so if you can handle it, run at +1 or +2 x8. Don't do +3 or +4 since it doesn't really spawn much more Bosses and Lts and mobs take much longer to kill.
I usually get 1-3 shards per mission and it takes me about 10-15 minutes. However, random is random, so the shard drop rate can be as low as 1 shard every 15 mins or 1 shard every 3 mins.

The best way I found is to do speed SFs such as ITF and LRSF. Not only do you get shards, you also get a component at the end which is worth 4 shards. Timewise, the equivalent number of shards is:
    ITF: 30 mins: 1 comp + 3 shards = 7 shards / 30 mins or 1 shard every 4 mins
    LRSF: 45 mins: 1 comp + 4 shards = 8 shards / 45 mins or 1 shard every 5 mins

Counting the component, sharp drop rate is better in speed SFs. For me, this is very efficient time wise, because I want to do my 5 tips per day. If I go on a kill all, I miss out on doing my tips. Kill all SFs can take about 1.5 - 2 hrs, and since I get shard drops in my tips anyway, it makes no sense to waste my time in kill alls.

I don't recommend the Reichsmann SF since it's easy to fail and if you do, you won't get the component at the end. It also takes a long time to do and thus, lower shard drop rate.

Since I got Going Rogue last Christmas, my characters have 200+ shards and 30 components just doing tips and speed ITF and LRSF.

    Edit:
This suggestion is a bit more sneakier. If you run tips or papers/radio, invite toons under lvl 50. I suggest lvl 40-49 so that they can help kill. You must be the only 50.
Any shard that drops will go to you. If there is another lvl 50 in the team and their alpha is unlocked, shards will be split between the 2 of you.
For example, my team had 2 lvl 50s (me and a stoner) and the rest were lowbies. We were doing Liberate TV which has a lot of mobs on a big map. Halfway thru the map, the stoner said that he only got 1 shard while I got 3. This means that 4 shards dropped, but it isn't a 50/50 split between the 2 of us.
  11. My brutes have 2 builds: one for lowbie strikeforces, lvls 20-40 and the other for lvl 50 content.
My lowbie build is low cost and uses common/uncommon cheap IOs. I try not to spend more than 50k per recipe and avoid recipes that require 2+ mil salvage. Most of the IOs are between lvl 20-28. Higher lvl IOs are used for powers that are taken at lvl 30+. Powers over lvl 43 are not slotted.
So for 80 slots at around 200k per slot, I spent about 18 mil. I got all of the recipes from the market.
You're 42 now, so if you roll random recipes in AE and don't move the slider, you will get lvl 42 recipes. You can try moving the slider to 30 and hope for recipes that are capped at lvl 30. I suggest doing either bronze or silver recipe rolls.

My lvl 50 build was slotted with recipes from the market and purchase via Reward Merits since I slotted it before Going Rogue came out. I spent around 1 bill inf.

Here are 2 posts I replied about slotting. Link1 Link2

  13. Yes, you will be able to apply the code from your COH Collector's Ed and get 30 days. In fact, the code from the following releases give you 30 days of time:
    1) City of Villains, Release Date: October 31, 2005
    2) City of Heroes and City of Vilians: Good vs. Evil Edition, Release Date: March 26, 2007
    3) City of Heroes Architect Edition, Release Date: April 14, 2009
    4) City of Heroes Going Rogue, Release Date: 2010

What does this mean? If you apply the codes in the order of release date, you will get 30 days of free time. I was able to get 104 days of play time when I updated my trial account. I didn't install anything from disc and just downloaded the latest client.

    - Trial time, 14 days. I made 20 new characters on several servers and leveled them to 14 which is the max on trial account. Since I started during winter event, I collected at least 100 candy canes on each so that each toon can sell them and have 5 million inf.
    - Applied City of Villains code on top of trial account, total free time = 30 days. NOTE: Don't create a new account to keep your trial toons. Apply the code on the trial account.
    - Applied Good vs. Evil code, total free time = 60 days
    - Applied Going Rogue, total free time = 90 days

Once I became official, the candy canes were sold at the market and I ended up with 5 - 10 mill on my lv 14 toons.

Winter event is over, so if you start with a trial account, store expensive salvage in the market and your vault so you can sell them when you activate Collector's Ed. As posted before, trial accounts can only have 50000 infamy. However, you can have 30 items in inventory, 30 items in your vault and 10 item slots in the market. Some of these items sell for as high as 3 million in the market, so don't just sell them at the store since the store buys it from you for much much less.

If you upgrade from Collector's Ed to Going Rogue, I don't think you can use the codes for City of Villains, Good vs. Evil or Architect to get free time.

Note that 30 day play time is $15. Check Amazon and some of the titles are selling for less than $15, which means that if you get the release, you also pay less for play time.

Applying the release codes can only be done once.

    See you in game!

I didn't include this option because I thought that from a profit standpoint, it reduces the overall profit.
    Consider: 24*50 merits = 1200 merits
    Assuming 250k inf per merit = 1200 * 250k = 300 mil inf
    24*20 mil = 480 mil inf
Assuming the pvp IO sells on the market for cap:
    2 bil - 480 mil - 300 mil = 1,220,000,000 or 1.22 bil

    If sold out of market:
    3 bil - 480 mil - 300 mil = 2,220,000,000 or 2.22 bil

The equivalent of 24 days of doing tips ONLY and exchanging A-merits for LOTG7.5 which sells for around 200 mil:
    12 * 200 mil = 2,400,000,000 or 2.4 bil

When going for the Convert R-merits to A-merit route, the PVP IO must sell for at least 3.5 bill or higher.
In this case, I would recommend doing the LOTG7.5s because it could be sold every 2 days and the money could go toward IOs or more marketeering right away.

It takes about 2 months to accumulate enough A-merits to buy a PVP IO.
If I spent that much time, and am capped to 2 bill for it, I wouldn't sell it on the market. 2 months of 5 tips/day is a LOT of work, and I want to be compensated for as much as possible for that effort. That's why a lot of PVP IOs are selling off market using trade or email for the transaction.
An infamy cap just means more things will sell off the market, hence less people putting things for sale in the market. Remember, you are not buying from the game. You are buying from another player. As long as someone else is willing to pay more than you, the sell price will head in that direction.

  19. 50-100 mil a day from selling crafted IOs.
600 mil a week from 3 LOTG7.5s bought using tips.
150 mil a week from an occassional purple recipe drop.
  20. For better recipe drop rates, I try to get the Ouro day job. It hasn't failed to give me a yellow/orange recipe drop at the end of each mission.

Roger. In general, I could care less what they're doing other than playing CoX. However, I must speak for all the other team members who are giving 100%. Folks get irritated if there's one person just standing there. As long as the player in question is doing something, I don't need to know what else they're doing. There have been some cases where said player actually told the team whatever else they were doing, ie, playing Xbox, watching TV, movie on DVD, etc, which I thought was really stupid thing to say and would ultimately create a bad impression. As long as it's not obvious that they're otherwise preoccupied, I'm not gonna make an issue out of it.
For now, I have made a note on the player's name and global.
  22. How do you deal with a player who prefers to use skype or vent?
I was leading a strikeforce the other day and was trying to get all the players in the zone to start the strikeforce. One player, whom I shall call ToonX, wouldn't zone in even after 5 mins of me repeatedly asking to do so. In fact, he was doing some lowbie mission in Mercy even though he was lvl 40. Irritated, I kicked ToonX and told him to send me tell when he got out. I was about to start without him, but he finished his mission and asked for an invite. I figure it was a fluke and invited him.
During the SF, I tell folks what to expect and where the next mission is so they can ouro out of the mish to save time. Even with my instructions, ToonX was getting into the missions 5 mins after everyone else got there, attacking the wrong things, etc.
Later on, I found out that ToonX was on vent and his chat window was closed.
Now, how am I supposed to be able to give instructions?
Do these vent users think that vent is the way to go and communicating with the team any other way is old skool?

The workaround is to clear the message body to at least 1 character and then attach your stuff.

It's new for i19. There's 2 choppers in Mercy, 1 north in the base and the other south by the ferry. You can use the choppers to go north and south and it won't reload Mercy. It's kinda like a teleport effect. It's very useful for the Operative Renault Strike force missions.
When I was on trial accnt, I would open 6 or so presents near the Arachnos base. I usually snagged a candy cane. Then I would take a swim to the PO ferry. From PO, to Cap Au Ferry. Then another swim to Rogue Is Ferry to get to Grandville. When I get there, I offer to sell my candy cane and there's usually someone willing to pay me 10-20k for my candy cane. Some kind soul even tried to give me 5 mil, but I had to explain that I had a 50k inf cap.
It takes about 5 mins, and I don't have to wait for the mayhem to get the wacky zero-g pack. The jetpack is one of the reasons why I like Villain side. To date, I have not found an equivalent usable version on hero side. I thought I found one in Pocket D, but it only last 2 mins and is grayed out on my scrapper. The villain jetpack lasts 2 hours game time and by the time it runs out, you would have leveled enough to get a travel power.
Now that the chopper is there, it's even more easier to get the jetpack.
To get a jetpack in Praetoria, go to the Trading house. In the market menu, collapse recipes->Other->Jet pack
Buy the one that has the cheapest salvage. However, this method will cost around 50k - 100k depending on salvage.
    Hope this helps!

Travel tip if you play Villain:
Before you make your ebil one, email yourself at least 10k inf. After you land in Mercy, go to the chopper behind Kalinda. Take it to Grandville. Stay on the main road and head towards the statue of Lord Recluse. Before his statue is a Jetpack Quartermaster. Click on the Raptor pack to buy it. You will hear a 'bing' sound that indicates your purchase is complete. If you don't see the jetpack in your tray, click on Powers. From the Temporary powers list, drag the Raptor pack to your tray and you're good to go!
For quick cash, open a few presents to get a candy cane or do a mission from FatherTime. Candy canes sell for 50-100k a piece.
