Thanks for the advice mauk2. Your "let's chat" line made me laugh. I appreciated the enthusiasm.
I forgot to ask in my original post...are brutes "expected" to take taunt like tanks generally are?
Also, are the new tanker epics looking more appealing to brutes or are people sticking with patron sets? I know that's probably more of an opinion thing but I just thought I'd look for a little info before I get there. I've mostly played scrappers and squishies so my experience is limited with these sets. -
Recently I was diagnosed with a(nother) case of alt-itis. This time around the recommended treatment is a brute. The problem is deciding what combo to use. I made a claws/elec brute which is only at 15. Seems ok but until I can get stamina I'm having some serious end issues. I've also been entertaining the idea of a fire melee brute. Almost made a fire/elec instead of the claws. Indecision abounds. I believe what I'm looking for is what I've seen called a "buzzsaw build." The options I'm torn between are as follows:
claws/elec (started)
fire/elec
fire/fire
ss/?? thinking fire armor again. +rech proc in footstomp being a good part of the allure.
I've been into scrappers lately and want to try a fury building machine now that they're not confined to the dismal Rogue Isles. What are the thoughts on these combos? With the big thing nowadays being +def via set bonuses am I going to be struggling and/or selling myself short if I go with a resistance based set? Or will all that resistance plus def bonuses give me good survivability? I don't need to be able to function as a tank in extreme situations I'm just trying to avoid a multitude of embarrassing ground-kissing scenarios. Whilst cranking out (hopefully) obscene damage of course.
Which of these seems well suited for my goals? Am I looking at the wrong powers for such a purpose? I do have the means to equip high end io's although I don't see myself dropping a bil+ on any 1 enh.
Thank you very much in advance for any help. -
true. that's the same reason i drop sleet 1st in my triple storm o' DOOOOOOM!! combo which i'm addicted to. i cant get enough of storming mobs into oblivion on the itf. especially because they're usually fulcrum boosted and the sea of orange numbers pleases me.
-
thanks guys. and thank you, iggy for posting your build. i'll probably borrow (steal) heavily from it.
so katana doesn't need hasten? interesting. i'm a big mark for hasten so it will be odd skipping it if i do. also, the lack of a true travel power might be strange for me but i can always keep a jet pack handy for when ninja run won't cut it for my vertical needs. -
i figured it was too good to be true.
but at least i can pop a blue and use it before blizzard wipes everything out. -
-
how exactly does this work? i always crash when i use blizzard even with a very healthy heat loss running. or am i supposed to blizzard then HL and consider that "crashless?" was just wondering if there was really a way to avoid the toggle drop when i want to use blizzard.
-
nothing, huh? ok, eff it. i'll just pl myself up to 50 and go straight to the final build phase. any advice on an attack chain?
-
started a new scrapper ive been wanting to try. kat/wp. basically looking to do all the scraptastic stuff its capable of. but i first need to level it up. just looking to see which powers i should skip and which are must haves. i have a lot of money and merits so i can afford to pick up handy io's as i go. any advice from you gurus out there is much appreciated.
if anyone actually slaps a build up that's cool, too. i'm not expecting anyone to do all the work for me it's that i just made this toon and haven't even looked at mids for it yet.
oh, yeah...i'm guessing that in decked out builds the achilles' heel proc makes an appearance. where is the preferred seating for that little gem?
thanks -
ok, finally got the other build. been looking over it for possible changes but this is how it looks at the moment. that pvp io may or may not make it, depends on if i feel like dropping that kind of cash.
so which seems more survivable and which seems to have the stronger offense?
since i've had no feedback on the first build should i assume i've created a masterpiece that needs no alterations???
anyway, thanks to anyone with any advice and you're welcome to anyone who sees something they like and wanna use it

i was on mids trying to make a good build for my blaster and this is one of them that i came up with. it's the s/l def soft capped version. i'm also considering a build that focuses more on ranged def and has force mastery for +res. i'll post that one when i get it off the other comp. any thoughts on this one or which concept would be more survivable?

for a solo build your attacks are WAY underslotted. it looks like it would take forever to defeat mobs. 6 slotting hover for defense is too much especially since your build is not defense oriented. as a lot of people will tell you, siren's song is huge for a safe solo build...sleep the mob and single out 1 enemy at a time (preferably by stunning them with screech) and easily knock them down one at a time. there have been a few threads about this combo in recent weeks including one of my own. i'd recommend taking a look at them to get an idea.
-
yeah, i did get a beta invite but i have no idea how to access it. i tried to follow the instructions but i just couldn't get it to work =/ guess i'm too dumb to get the scoop ahead of time.
also, i know the set is for tanks, brutes and stalkers as well but i'm making a scrapper, hence the post under the scrapper section. but i guess i'm not making it til GR goes live.... -
i'm looking forward to some new powersets to play with so i was wondering how the kinetic set looked to be shaping up. also, are there any secondaries that are standing out as the most beneficial for high end performance?
thanks to anybody with any info. -
i gotta remember to show up for this. my fire/rad is already 50 but i love teams like this. any level is fine for me.
-
this is what i came up with for mine. not the cheapest but it works. shouldn't have problems with stamina.

i just respecced my cold/ice and this is what im currently using in sleet and it's working out well:
i have the undermined defenses end/rech and rech previously mentioned as well as the achilles heel proc and 3 dmg procs, posi, lady grey, and impeded swiftness.
i like using the achilles heel in an aoe since it has a chance at debuffing far more enemies than just the ST. but who says you can't use one in both?
and i like having my freeze ray, very handy for stopping the surgeons on the itf when you're in the middle of buffing or storming the cimeroran traitors into submission. or sappers. or any number of pesky jerks. but i just use the 4 basilisk's gaze. it been sufficient so far. -
hehe...i think u opened my build on the 1st attempt because that's what i have for ranged defense.
-
i would suggest putting the apocalypse set in shriek and trading out the dmg enh for the chance for dmg proc. it hits often and when it does it doubles the amount of damage the power does. and since that blast power will be used the most it gives you more chances for it to hit. i have it and love it.
as others will tell you shout is a skippable power especially on a high recharge build. but if there's nothing else you have your eye on then i guess that doesnt matter. (maybe temp invuln??)
judging by all the purples im guessing money isnt a big concern. if so then i would suggest slotting a couple hami enh in rad infection. it will enh the to hit AND def debuff as well as end reduction. i have 2 of those and the achilles proc in mine and find it quite handy. that would free up a couple slots for use elsewhere.
i also have the chance for dmg proc in howl in lieu of the dmg/range enh. when using it on large mobs you should actually get more dmg out of the power that way since the dmg/range only gives about an extra 4% boost to the dmg. i also used a rech enh in my 6th slot because i want the power up as often as possible. but that's just my preference.
anyway, these are just suggestions. if u do a search i have a recent thread regarding my rad/sonic which i just respecced and love it. i run lots of tf's with it and have solo'd about 6 or 7 AV's since the respec as well.
hope this helps. -
here's another s/l capped build to peruse. you could downgrade the purples in the blast sets to save a couple bucks if u prefer.

hi
i'm looking to enh my fire/regen, it's my first regen toon. this is a pve build. my question to those with experience is does this look like i can dive into mobs and have a scrappy good time or am i looking at a series of face plants?
i really want to keep the fire epic so please keep that in mind when offering suggestions.
also, if i did happen to venture into a pvp zone or arena would i have a fighting chance?
thanks

Quote:Post-Fluffy and on teams, you don't need to use Darkest Night for anything but the toughest fights
that's what i have it for. kind of an emergency tool if necessary. my main focus will be on using fearsome stare, tentacles, nightfall, tar patch and twilight grasp with other powers being used as necessary or as places for io bonuses.
i actually dropped leadership in the 2nd build since the majority of commentators seemed to feel it was skippable on this build. figured i'd try without it and see if i missed it.
also, what is YMMV? i've been meaning to ask since i see it in posts often. i'm not cutting edge when it comes to all these acronyms =/
thanks.
