Looks ok. I'd take true grit earlier (6 prolly) and skip the 3 resist in it - a steadfast + defense would be a good idea in it or deflection.

I assume you're going with ninja run since you have no travel selected?

I personally don't care for whirling sword but it's not a bad power. I'd also dump the double accuracies for recharges in the attacks - can put a kismet +6% to hit in one of your toggles pretty cheaply while leveling and dump it when you io later.

Also if you happen to be racking up merits along the way I'd try to get the numina and miracle procs - bs/shield is endurance heavy no matter how many endurance reductions you can fit in and those take the edge off a bit.

I hate to necro a thread but I have a Mids question. When I open the OP's build, his phalanx fighting is giving him 14.4 defense. When I create a new character and slot phalanx fighting the same way, I'm getting only 3.8 defense from it.

Is there something I'm missing? Because if I could get that much defense out of phalanx fighting, I could make a build that pushes all my defenses into the low 50s. I'd go from "struggling to hit 45% to all" to "uber" in a heartbeat.

It didnt look like it was in PVP mode or anything weird. I'll post my build below, tho its a mess and just a concept work at this point. Everything is kinda out of order.

Anyway, what am I missing?

You can set the number of allies for phalanx fighting in the box at the bottom-left corner. Yours is set to zero. OP's build is set to 3.

Your numbers should be ok. For your build, you can consider touch of death for your attacks instead of kinetic combat such that you can accumulate melee defense bonus faster. Then you maybe able to free up a couple melee powers to use Mako's bite for higher ranged defense. For example, I modified your slotting below.

Wow, thanks! I may even use it just like it is. There were some sets I hadn't considered using that I see now makes hitting the numbers easier. Also I wasnt paying attention closely on the Kinetic Combat vs Touch of Death. The last melee character I planned was Invuln, so I had typed defenses on the brain.

Why'd you go for the Gift of the Ancients? Run speed, primarily? I dont mind the recovery, and its good to get some resists in Deflection. I'm just tempted to go 5 and 5 in them to pick up the recharge bonus from Red Fortune.

Then again, this isn't really intended to be a recharge intensive build.

I just hit 50 with my BS/SD. I will work on posting his build, if you like. It's soft capped, and was amazing to play. Buildup Shield Charge, followed by whirling sword, would take all everything but bosses.
The soft cap build was under 20 mil, and he brought in over 700 mil (playing to 50) not a bad return at all.

I tried this... works pretty good for me... also I didn't include slice, figured by sacrificing this power and gaining parry instead was much more beneficial... you gain 15% def (lethal, melee) for a few moments per successfuly hit... a def must i think... a little pricey but it shines....
