  1. Never thought I'd see the day where almost an entire thread recommends ice armour...almost brings a tear to my eye. At last our time has come...nerfs will be incoming thanks to all the FOTMer's though.
  2. Some funny randoms there...one match I'm allied with one person and against another and in the second they switch. Fighting against or teaming with an Ice/Ice blaster though will be fun. Cause they are great except against ice tanks with maxed out res and some def . Also you can't argue with having any controller on your team.

    Shame though we are going to do this before the free respec. Hopefully by gimped out build will get me through with enough lives to that date.

    Had to take energy to fit aid self in and had to shuffle when I took slots around.

    U won't be using barrage at all in PvP, better use those slots in another more useful power (i even took off barrage from my power list).
    U deffo need hasten, and 3 rechrdx in hibernate. If u got spare slots, add 2 heal and 1 end mod, that way u will be fit and ready before taunt and slow debuffs wear off (if u plan on arena team pvp, that is).
    Dunno why u ask us not to suggest focus accuracy. Ok, i wont suggest it, but it will be ur loss for sure.
    Stun and icicles I would drop them. Icicles seems not the best AS interrupter at all. Anyway if for any reason u want to stay with it, dont slot dmg, its just wasting slots

    Arr good to see you only read the start and end of threads...It helps if you read the middle as well.

    Also although it's a PvP build I still want to be able to tank in PvE, hence why I want only pyre mastery. Also I hear that icicles does more damage than you think. Think I might move the two slots in barrage to hibernate though.

    Although on second thoughts I really really want aid self so fire might have to go

    From that list I'd say Combat jumping if your getting SJ anyway and weave if you REALLY want it...(I don't see the point but its up to you) but as suggested get aid self.

    [Virtual hit], ice tanks are the best "tanks" (aggro keepers) by a long way they just pay for it by being a little more fragile (not by much).

    I'd say Ice/SS personally but that's just me.

    That's the real rub for me. An auto hit power, rapid recharge, and zero end cost. How many great powers come with that?

    And its one power - only one. I'm sure most builds can fit that in by the mid 20s.

    With my fire blaster I don't feel I can let rip with full power unless there is a tank with skill. Taunt, aura, whatever it's irrelevant. Lack of skill makes someone not a tank, NOT their power choices. I can tank a TF with with my aura or with just taunt and will have very few defeats. I could even do it with gauntlet alone if I'm allowed fire mastery.

    My point is this...anyone who says taunt is needed (unless they are a granite tank) doesn't have a clue about tanking, I'm sorry but they don't. It is USEFUL but not needed.

    Saying that I would always get taunt but my problem comes in that lots of people say get it asap or your "not a tank" I would rather wait till around mid 20's at least.

    Recently did the Eden Trial with the following team:

    1 x Kinetics Defender (lvl 39)
    1 x Nrg/Nrg Blaster (lvl 39)
    1 x Illusion Controller (lvl 42 I *think*)
    1 x Empath (lvl 43)
    1 x Storm Defender (lvl 46)
    1 x DM/SR Scrapper (lvl 50)
    1 x Tauntless Tank (lvl 45)
    1 x Dark Defender (lvl 50)

    Had a grand total of 2 deaths throughout the entire trial

    1 of them was when the Scrapper decided to show his costume off to a big group of DE outside (and the tank was no where near) in Eden doing the kill 200 mission, the other was when the Kinetics defender decicided to go for a super douper fulcrum shift about 2 seconds before the tank had fully managed the aggro from a big group of those crystal DE thingies...

    Never even came close to death while taking down both of the big rock GMs or the crystal titan.

    So, um, actually... tauntless tanking in the Eden trial can work fine

    (as a comparison we ran the same Trial the week before with a taunting tank and we actually had more deaths...)

    With that much healing power on a team no wonder you only had 2 deaths. Care to post the team makeup of the team with the taunting tanker? I'm guessing a load less green numbers flying around...

    I would go so far as to suggest a tank in that team wouldn't have made much difference anyway. The illusionists decoys quite probably took most of the attacks, and dropping Fortitude and AB on a the regen could have functioned just as well. I'm also curious if the ill controller was /rad. Chances are good that it was, which would have floored the GMs attacks anyway (dmg, acc, recharge), or /kin, which is more green and -(acc, rech, dmg, resist) anyway.

    I'm not saying taunt makes the tank (where you seem to be saying it makes the team). I'm saying the same tank who has dropped a small attack for picking up taunt would function better in his role (that being to keep aggro off those needing to have the aggro kept off them), in the same team.

    That's all well and good if you can get teams every single time you log on. I don't know about you but I want to have some soloing potential, 2 attacks makes a huge difference to 1. I would still take taunt just not until around 24ish. Where in this build would I take taunt?

    Are you saying I should go 20 levels with barrage? Have you seen how bad that attack is? Even if I miss out health and get taunt at 18 that's only 6 levels before I would rather take it anyway.

    I recently did the entire Numina TF without taunt because when I repseced I made the mistake of taking taunt at level 44. I went through the entire taskforce until the last mission without any team plants. In the last mission I fell down a hole in them nightmare 5 level blue caves and got stuck, the team proceeded to wipe (therefore sorta proving I was needed) from that mob. Taunt would not have made a difference because I did not have line of sight on the mob and it was my own mistake I feel. Even though I felt like I had failed my job of tanking (normally being a good tank that can go without plants for entire TF's) I noticed that taunt wasn't needed but handy to have.

    You really really want to be able to jump tall buildings in a single bound don't you?

    Personally, I quite like your build, but I play scrappers, so don't take me seriously at all! (until it's the scrapper survives the team wipe........ again!!)

    I think the reason for the slots there is emphasis on unsuppressed movement (combat jumping). Thus only basic slot in SJ. Personally I say the slots in hurdle arent really needed.

    You maybe right about hurdle but would you feel happier with slots in BU instead then, as this is the only place I really got space? I was thinking 2 x Recharge and 2 x ToHit.

  13. Look at it this way you can either get stamina or slot at least 2 Endred in powers...I personally would rather slot recharges and plant stuff faster but thats just me...

    I got to level 34 without stamina, then I respeced it in and wondered how I managed without it.

    If the tanker is using a standard tactic called corner pulling (where the group is bunched up at a corner) this is fine and will allow you even better damage. Otherwise no idea what they are doing.

    I don't see the problem with getting both powers, I'm not sure what I would take instead at 35 or 38...You've waited long enough with crappy attacks break them both out.

    As for AS it's 2.8 BI, TF is as good as 10...no contest.

    note I was left with alot of spare slots so thats why some may appear overkill.
  19. Mu suggestion for tanks would be to stop thinking that your job is to take damage...You can't take all the damage solo in large teams. The new (I would say always was) primary goal is keeping aggro while your defenders/controllers keep you alive. That was one of the main points of nerfing tanks, you now need backup. In the same way that a good fire blaster needs a good tank to let rip with full AoE, a good tank needs good backup to do their job.

    Barrage is too low damage to bother with.

    Use the slots in hurdle/cj instead.

    Chilling embrace cant taunt in PvP, so dont bother with taunt duration.

    Stun has little use. Drop it.

    Get body mastery instead of fire.

    Taunt in CE is for PvE and I'm not taking energy mastery like I said but thanks for the other info.

    Fire mastery is so I can do decent damage in teams, please don't suggest focus accuracy
    Stun I'm not sure about, it just sounds like a good idea for fighting squishes.
    Slotting I'm defo not sure about.

    After thinking about this it worries me because I can technically tank with a fire/dev blaster, if you have a good buffer/debuffer then I could just throw down caltrops, throw a fireball and then hide behind something.     I was going to write a guide for tanking but while doing research I found this...

    OK it might be a little out of date but it more or less sums up everything I was going to say. Though I may still write a mini guide on tactics since new tanks don't seam to know how to do simple things like corner pull.

    It's more single target harder hitting build which is from PvP. Basically i was going to include medicine but theres no point in having that if you have hibernate which is a great power in PvP imo. For PvE in my experience of teaming with ice tanks they can hold aggro perfectly with CE, taunt is there for PvP which is really annoying to have in PvP. I also included focussed accuracy as i think that power is fantastic its one of the most powerful self buff powers. and you can even slow 1accuracy 3damage 1recharge1endurance redux with it and hit fine. I slotted shields for 3endurance redux just to completely hack down endurance costs those slots can easily be transferable. Also included CJ and hurdle with ss that travel power is great. You could even get rid of conserve power and have SJ, as i doubt with this build you'll have endurance problems.

  25. The reason people say you can't keep aggro is that they are inexperienced/bad tankers or play in bad teams. I witnessed today Phil keeping 99% of aggro for an entire TF without taunt below level 20 (synapse TF). If he can do it at that level then so can anyone else. I have known for ages that at high levels you can easy keep aggro (because of my 50) but I have little real experience of tanking below 20, now I have seen that aggro can be held at all levels, just using simple tactics (such as corner pulling) and cooperation.
