Hi Untouchable!

If I'd been playing a brute in CoV and was coming over to experience CoH tanking I think I would go for powers you can't get in CoV.

So maybe consider an Ice Tank? They seem quite popular at the moment - seem to see quite a few running around at the early lvls...

Secondary choices would be: Ice, Battle Axe or War Mace (I think... I don't play CoV much so can't remember exactly what the choices are!!)

Of course... if you have a particular idea in mind with your tank it might effect which set you go for

I agree, Ice Tanks are quite nice, I have a little one around level 13ish that I play occasionally

And I do like my Battle Axe, heh.

My suggestion would be (wait for it...) Ice/Axe . Mace is generally considered unpopular for tanks, and I really don't think the actual look of the mace is anything great at all, especially if you play a 'Huge' tank. It might fit a medievil look slimish male model though.

Axe has pretty good damage, and some nice knock up/down too.

Good luck with whatever you go for

Why not make the character that suits your image of a tank the best. I've got a inv/sstr tank a the moment and I love the character but the effects that go with ice and fire don't appeal to me at the moment. Even if they were by far the better options from a stats point of view they'd be no use to me.

What about the Fire secondary. It is different enough to the Fire primary for brutes as Combustion is such a nice power for a tank.

Personally I would go for a concept and stick with it.

Both Stone and Fire are slightly restrictive on travel power. Fire is best with Jumping as you don't have knockback protection or immob protection ( I'm being stubborn and am trying to get a Flying Fire tank to work ). Stone is best with teleport as both Rooted and Granite have -jump and -fly on them so teleport is needed for such tricky maneuvers as going up stairs, without having to detoggle you mez protection.

[Virtual hit], ice tanks are the best "tanks" (aggro keepers) by a long way they just pay for it by being a little more fragile (not by much).

I'd say Ice/SS personally but that's just me.

Ice/SS is lovely, if a little bit of a late starter. I have got progressively and noticeably better every level since about level 20 and truly it is the most fun I've had tanking.

just remember that the playstyle is slightly different tanks get no fury
they have more defense and less offense afaik

its a sight to behold when a tank can stand in the middle of a purple mob and party !!!

Ice is the higest survivability tank next to granite form stone, the best aggro keeper, and doesn't suffer from most the downsides other sets have (Psi vulnerability/movement restrictions/lacking status protection).

For secondary, seeing as you don't want NRG, Axe and SS are the next best single target damagers. Fire is best AoE set, and ice is best survivability and control. Mace is just gimp

errr... how does it not suffer from Psi vulnerability? The DEF in Ice Armour is all damage-typed, and as far as I'm aware none of them (including Energy Absorption) offer Psi DEF.

Gah, that's true, I really shouldn't post when I'm tired

Yeah try ice/fire, they are probably the best for aggro control, and look visually fantastic.

Ice may not have a specific psi defense, but you're better off vs psi attacks than a Fire or Invulnerability tanker would be. Why? Well, you've got Chilling Embrace, Hoarfrost, and Hibernate working for you. These powers defend you against any forms of damage! You may not be as well protected as you are against conventional attack, but you're not exactly helpless, either.

Dont forget the mighty 1% defence of Wet Ice against everything!
